Did you ever fold fortune tellers as a kid? With no set nap times and a new baby, I've been trying to find easy ways to have fun with my older son. Recently I introduced him to fortune tellers and he totally dug them! We made them to predict what he would be when he grew up. He doodled the different jobs that he'd like to do and then we colored and folded the fortune tellers together! When I Grow Up... Fortune Teller Fun with Preschoolers! This post contains affiliate links. Thank you for your support. To read my full disclosure policy, click here. As with most of our preschool crafts, my son and I started out by reading picture books. This time we looked through books that talked about different occupations that adults can have. Some of our favorite books are below: Fun Picture Books About Jobs and Occupations! What do People Do All Day? Jobs People Do The Berenstain Bears: When I grow Up LMNO Peas Clothesline Clues to Jobs People Do Then, I doodled him a fortune teller. (You could fold one first and then have your child draw in the different occupations. But if you wanted to print out the fortune teller that we used, click here!) Here are some of the jobs that my son wanted to have.... (my favorite is elf... how cute is that?) We folded and tore the paper so that it would become a square. Then, we folded the paper in half. And then we folded it in half again. Then, we opened up the paper. Then, we folded in all the corners so they met in the middle. Then, we flipped it around. Then, we folded all the corners to the center again. Then, we folded it in half. And put out fingers inside to make our fortune teller! Choose a number... and then choose another number... and then choose another number to reveal what you'll be when you grow up. (I got to be a dad. Hmm... close enough, I suppose.) Oh! And if you like making fortune tellers, you could also try this Origami Fortune Tellers Book or Mini Fortune Tellers Tin! More Preschool "When I Grow Up" Activities! We’ve all seen it happen. Our youngest recently turned 2. We ate cake, played games and opened presents. After the wrapping and tissue paper were strewn about, the kids played excitedly with all the new books and toys — for about two minutes. After that, they were happier playing with the boxes the toys came in.

We have had indoor recess after indoor recess and I've noticed that my students have a particular interest in 'building 'this year. Perhaps it's the new Lego movie coming out or I have a room full of future engineers ;) In either case, I have a new math station and a freebie to share with you tonight. First, the new station. It requires students to work with a partner or small group. They will roll a dice, add ten and cover the number. To allow for differentiation I have included a counting on card. I will have students place the dice on the card then use the ten frame of building blocks to count on. As you can see there is an I can card included to build student independence and every page is included in color and black & white. You can find this math station at my TPT store HERE. Now how about that freebie I mentioned? I saw a picture on Pinterest of a building block board game and it sparked an idea so I thought I would share with you :) Students spin the spinner and move up the board following the directions as they travel. (The building possibilities are endless with just the spinner.) I have included an I can... card to keep students in task. The goal is to build the highest tower. You can download a copy for free HERE. Now, let's see who's spending a quiet Friday night at home. I'll send a copy of my Adding 10 activity to the first 3 people who comment on this post :)

“No!” my five-year-old declared, “Cleaning up toys is boring.” He’s usually pretty helpful cleaning up his room and enjoys helping around the house, but sometimes he gets in a mood. Should I force him into cleaning his room, using my … Continue reading "How to Respond to Defiant Behavior the Montessori Way"

This is another 5-senses activity. We did 10 different materials, ranging from feathers to sandpaper and everything in between. We had the kids feel each piece of material and then had them glue them onto the hands. We asked the kids to describe the material and what if felt like to them. I LOVE the answers that we got from some of the kids. My own little girl, had some that made me crack up. The sandpaper felt like Poppa's face, the fake leather felt like a couch and one of them felt like her dog Brody. It was fun to hear their answers. Fabric stores are great to look for material for this project. A remnant can go a long way when your talking about 1 inch pieces. Also look at the craft supplies and hardware stores. We used sponges and Brillo pads, the possibilities are endless.
