Chestnut is such a joy to knit, with its super-simple allover cable motif worked on larger needles—it whips up in no time. A simple knit with no shoulder shaping, this sweater’s cables coincide only with shaping in the sleeves, which are picked up from the armhole and knitted to the cuffs. A simple ribbed trim finishes this sweet cardi. This pattern is also available as part of the Plain & Simple collection.
Architectural and completely modern in shape, this cropped pullover is a compelling knit and an eye-catching addition to any wardrobe. The front, back, and sleeves are simple quadrangles worked flat and seamed to achieve a wide, swingy shape with an open neckline and snugly fitted three-quarter-length sleeves. The interplay of twisted ribs, cables, and traveling stitches yields a fabric that wants to move and fold, and clever placement of each element creates flattering lines on the body. Since the size of the boatneck is determined by your seaming, you can adjust the way the garment sits on your shoulders after the knitting is complete. Measure your arm circumference at the biceps to determine which size sleeve will give you a slender fit that’s not too restricting. Designer: Michele Wang Collection: Fall 2014

Designer Jordan Prouty brings to the Voyage collection, Carbonado, an oversized triangular shawl. Holding two strands of Piper together, the shawl is knit from the pointed tip while growing along the top edge to the opposite side in soothing garter stitch. A showstopper cable panel is created along one side of the shawl which boasts a symphony of honeycomb, interlocking and overlapping diamonds. The grand finale of Carbonado is the finishing touch of an i-cord along the edge of the cable panel. Shown here in two colorways, Lone Oak and Coldspring brings depth and a wonderful halo effect to the overall piece.
A simple shape gets an eye-catching twist when flattering tracks of bias-knit fabric meet and embrace in a perfectly placed cable. This pullover is knit in four pieces in a lofty garter stitch, then stretch-blocked and sewn together to create a wearable classic with weightless drape and fluid movement. Designer: Véronik Avery Collection: Winter 2014
An easy poncho style, Dormer’s basic rectangle construction allows you to concentrate on the dropped stitch and cable patterning—an irresistible effect in a ribbon linen yarn like Kestrel. Convert it to a pullover by simply seaming up the sides; Norah also suggests working more rows on the cuffs if you desire longer, fitted sleeves. We love pieces that allow you the freedom to really make it your own! Go to Framework Collection

This is named after a beautiful loop at one of my favourite Nordic ski destinations. The cardigan is worked from the top down, in one piece, with false stocking stitch 'seams' on a mainly reverse st st background. It has roomy pockets and extra long sleeves. Provisional cast-on is recommended for the back collar sections and cable cast-on is recommended for the pockets. Total length is approximately 80 cm / 32 inches. About the yarn I used, both Kathmandu and Silk Road are labelled DK weight, with a recommended gauge of 20 st / 10 cm (4 inches), so if you are substituting yarn, I would recommend a worsted, rather than DK weight. The garment is pictured in Queensland Collection, Kathmandu, colour 407.Correction: On the top half of page 3, all RS rows should begin with "work LEFT collar as established" and end with "work RIGHT collar as established".

Cocoon in a fabric at once quiet and expressive. Putting humble knits and purls to good use, Watermark exhibits a harmonious meshing of easy to love (and accomplish) textures: grid stitch, furrowed ribbing, and classic one-by-one ribbing. Nestled in between each are panels of geometric cables, branching to form chevron diamonds that shine when the light hits just right. Contemporary construction details designed to flatter, like modified drop shoulders and gentle waist shaping, marry fabric, pattern, and shape all together — the patch pockets don’t hurt, either! The body of this cardigan is worked flat in one piece from the hem to the underarm; Garter Stitch Selvedges are worked at the front, armhole, neck, and collar extension edges. After underarm stitches are bound off, the fronts and back are worked separately to the shoulder. The shoulder is shaped using the Sloped Bind Off. The collar extensions are shaped using Short Rows: Wrap & Turn Method, then joined at the center back neck using Joinery Bind Off. The sleeves are worked circularly to the underarm, then the cap is worked flat. Options are given for standard sleeve cuffs or folded cuffs. Furrowed Ribbing and Grid Stitch may be worked either from charts or from written instructions; the Chevron Tree pattern is worked from charts only. Designer: Jared Flood Collection: Winter 2019

The subtle rhythms and harmonies of this shawl are inspired by both a new colorway and an eternal part of nature.’Oceaan,’ a hand-dyed yarn named after me, is a silvery, misty hue that suggests a seascape in the early morning. The pattern itself starts with an abstraction of the sky and horizon that widens into a sweep of undulating waves at the bottom.Dewy Ocean has an asymmetrical shape and is worked flat from the right tip to the left edge. The cable section starts at the widest point of the shawl near the end. The pattern is fully written out with stitch counts and the cable section is also charted.YARN: Any DK/Worsted weight yarn: approx. 897-984yds (820-900m).GAUGE: One cable pattern repeat (6 stitches x 8 rows), blocked = 1.57” x 1.08” (4 x 2.75 cm). “When it comes to cables, there’s one that I always revisit: the antler cable. There’s something about it that’s simultaneously timeless and modern, graphic and organic. I wanted to experiment with dividing these cables to edge a fabric and changing their direction to take a classic cardigan somewhere a little unexpected.” – Bristol Ivy Clever seamless construction and bold cables elevate this chunky deep-V cardigan. Marylebone is worked all in one piece, with Bristol’s flair for inventive details evident at every turn. A-line shaping is hidden within the antler cable along the spine, which splits at the neck and unites with the half cables from the front to flow out along the saddle shoulders and down to the cuff. Sleeve stitches are picked up around the armscye and knit flat, with short rows shaping the caps. A ground of reverse stockinette throws the cables into high relief and patch pockets adorn the fronts for functional style. They’re worked separately and sewn on, so you can knit one as a swatch and decide at the end whether to attach it and make it a partner or leave your fronts sleek and simple. Knit in Quarry, Marylebone will fly off the needles. Designer: Bristol Ivy Collection: Wool People, Volume 10
