'CMT Giants Kenny Rogers: A Benefit For MusiCares' Special Spotlights Late Singer's Life And Music
Old friends and duet partners Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers shared the stage for a final performance in Nashville, TN on Oct. 25.
More than 20 artists performed during "All In For The Gambler: Kenny Rogers’ Farewell Concert Celebration” Wednesday.
Chris Stapleton, The Judds, Lionel Richie, Idina Menzel, Kris Kristofferson, Lady Antebellum and more took the stage at Bridgestone Arena in October of 2017 for "All In For The Gambler," a farewell concert celebration for Kenny Rogers. But, it was Rogers' appearance with Dolly Parton that was the night's most anticipated event. The two friends shared the stage and swapped stories and memories from their decades-long friendship. In addition to performing their 1983 award winning hit "Islands In The Stream," Dolly sang her beloved tune "I Will Always Love You" to Kenny. As Dolly sang, and emotional Kenny sat on a stool with his arm around her. The auditorium was silent, no doubt because everyone was fighting back tears as they witnessed this truly personal and heartfelt moment between the country legends. The night's concert was the first time in 12 years that Parton, 71, and Rogers, 79, performed together in public, and marked the last time the two performed together as Kenny entered retirement. "That's always been kind of a rub with me when people retire 10 times," Rogers told Fox News earlier this year. "I'm going out because I need to go out and I'm going to enjoy my time at home with my wife and kids. I'm going to enjoy every moment of it." Kenny passed away 2 1/2 years later on March 20, 2020. Dolly took to social media to express her heartbreak after Kenny's death, saying: “Well, I couldn’t believe it this morning when I got up and turned on the TV, checking to see what the Coronavirus was doing,” “And they told me that my friend and singing partner, Kenny Rogers, had passed away. I know that we all know that Kenny is in a better place than we are today, but I’m pretty sure he’s going to be talking to God some time today if he ain’t already, and he’s going to be asking him to spread some light on a bunch of this darkness going on here.” “I loved Kenny with all my heart…And my heart is broken. A big ol’ chunk of it has gone with him today. I think that I can speak for all his family, his friends, and fans, when I say that I will always love you.” See Dolly sing "I Will Always Love You" to Kenny Rogers for the last time in the video below.
Country music fans everywhere were heartbroken when the news broke about the death of music icon Kenny Rogers. It happened without warning and took many by surprise. Shortly after the country superstar’s death, Capitol Nashville, Roger’s record label gave fans a surprise. The label decided to give radio stations one of Roger’s songs that the
Kenny Rogers is looking back on his eventful career as he continues on his farewell tour. It's a career that includes over 120 hit singles and more than 100 million records sold. Some of Rogers' most successful songs were duets. Who could ever forget his 1983 duet with Dolly Parton called "Islands in the Stream"? The song is consistently named as the greatest duet in all of country music history. Rogers and Parton have become good friends over the years, and have collaborated on multiple occasions. Just a handful of duets they've recorded together include "The Greatest Gift of All," "You Can't Make Old Friends," and "With Bells On." While Rogers' duets with Parton are some of his most recognizable, she surprisingly isn't his favorite duet partner. Yes, you read that right! During an interview with The Naples Daily News which was published on Wednesday (January 25), Rogers said that his favorite duet partner was actually Dottie West. They released duet albums together, with some of their most memorable singles being "Every Time Two Fools Collide" and "All I Ever Need Is You." "My favorite person was Dottie West and I don't know why," Rogers said. "Maybe it was because her life was cut short. But my most success of course came with Dolly Parton." Rogers spoke more about his friendship with Parton during the interview, calling her a "wonderful girl." "She's so determined, so positive in everything she does, that you just hang onto it. I can't go five years without seeing her. And when I walk into the room, I feel like I saw her yesterday. And the conversation reflects that feeling on both sides." The friendship that Rogers and Parton share is truly one in a million. They're lucky to have each other! Even though Rogers misses singing with West, it's clear he finds great joy in sharing the stage with Parton. You can see that below in their performance of "Islands in the Stream."

It was announced that Kenny Rogers, passed away last night at the age of 81 due to natural causes. A legend in country music, it took a long time before Rogers achieved stardom. The native Texan went from a rockabilly group, to a jazz ensemble, to psychedelic, to folk, and after more than a decade plus he found his first real success with the First Edition. The group (later renamed Kenny Rogers and the First Edition) would have a hit with “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town”, which although was not a country song, it had a country flavor to it, and that foreshadowed his future musical direction. Rogers went solo in the mid-70’s, and over the next ten years, he became a superstar with multiple country-pop crossovers like “The Gambler”, “Coward of the County” “Lady” and “Lucille”. He also had major success with duets with Dolly Parton “Islands in the Stream” and with Sheena Easton “We’ve Got Tonight”. Rogers would also cross over into acting, most notably starring in the 1982 film, Six Pack. He was indicted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2013. We here at Notinhalloffame.com would like to extend our condolences to the family, friends and fans of Kenny Rogers.
Dolly Parton recorded her own solo version of one of Kenny Rogers' biggest hits. Have you heard it?
Sometimes during a concert, the musician will bring a lucky fan onstage to perform alongside them. Whether the fan is nervous or starstruck, some fans vocals will have you wishing they would just go back to their seats. This wasn’t the case when country music legend Keith Urban was playing a show in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
"She Believes in Me" is one of Kenny Rogers' work of arts. The song is simply one of the all-time best. Surely, this will remind you of "The Gambler."
