Correction After glancing at my phone this morning to check this blog post, I had this feeling that something about my Ribbon Star didn't look quite right. While computer generating the block, I had turned all the half squares. I like the "new" design, too, but don't let it confuse you. This is the correct block. It really does look like a star. The instructions are correct. Happy Wednesday! Block #40 - Ribbon Star by Lynne Hagmeier I can't believe we're on the last round of 13 designers & blocks counting down to 52. I'll have to find something new to look forward to on Wednesdays. Ribbon Star is my last block for the Blockheads II series. I chose this block because it looks difficult, but is simple to piece. The story of my quilting life. With four star points, I deviated from my strict red/tan/navy color scheme for this project and incorporated a little green, too. The fabrics used here are from my new On Meadowlark Pond collection, due in quilt shops next month. Follow my blog for all the new quilts & patterns arriving soon. Click HERE for the instructions to Ribbon Star. Thanks to everyone for following us through another year of Moda Blockheads. I can't wait to see the quilts on Facebook. Check out the other 12 designers' blocks this week.
Block 15 - Friendship Stars Cheers to a block celebrating our friends, who are there for us through fat quarters (thick) and Honey Bun strips (thin). These simple blocks utilize basic half square triangles (HST) and add visual interest and motion to a quilt. My tip is to piece each unit of the blocks and trim to the exact measurement. The completed block will be perfect! The star points and block corners are HST. The center unit is quarter square triangles. I cut the D & B squares oversized for these, just like HST, so I can trim after piecing. Be sure to measure from the center intersection when trimming quarter square blocks. Note the pressing instructions. When sewing the three blocks together in a row, you'll appreciate having opposing seams on the center block. The finished section with sashing measures 12 1/2" x 22 1/2". You can piece Section #1 together at this point with a Log Cabin block, (2) Arrowheads and the Kansas Troubles block. Also this month, we're piecing the HST filler blocks. Please note that the HST section #1 measures 16 1/2" x 2 1/2", not the 10 1/2" stated. The HST are made in two sections for easier assembly in Part #20. Have fun with this week's Friendship Stars block. I'll meet you back here on August 30th for Kansas Sunflower.

Kansas Troubles Quilters
A great patriotic fabric. Navy blue background and tan stars and vines. The line is called "Freedom Road". It is designed by Kansas Troubles for Moda.
Are you a Blockhead? If you're not familiar, a dozen or so Moda designers all got together and shared quilt blocks each week for 54 weeks last year. If you are, you might remember the star I included in my series of blocks. After posting this ribbon star block, I had many requests for a lap quilt pattern. I simplified the block for traditional piecing and included it in my 20 Years of KTQ Block-of-the-Month quilt. The pattern for the lap quilt is one of the bonus patterns FREE with the purchase of the BOM, or can be purchased separately HERE. Now available as a digital PDF download. I chose a Milestones Jelly Roll to make the stars scrappy in cozy shades of autumn. I love the tan prints and tone-on-tones in this line. One was perfect for a lighter background behind the stars and another added a warmer tone for sashing strips. I love it when the fabric works into my plan! We'll have my Woven Stars kits available soon, shortly after the fabric arrives. Retail price $109.95. Here you can see the Woven Star block in the 20 Years of KTQ BOM. I had such a great time designing this quilt, I'm still using blocks from the quilt for projects in upcoming fabric lines. Do you have a stash of KT fabrics just waiting to make this beautiful king size quilt? Comment here to win the 20 Years of KTQ pattern pack (retail $48.95) plus all 4 of the bonus projects, including Woven Stars.

Block #52 - Scrappy Checkerboard by Corey Yoder Corey brings us the final block of the Blockheads II series. Simple 4-patches within a 9-patch are fun and easy. The perfect end to 52 weeks of blocks. I chose a color placement similar to the pattern using my red, tan and blues from a new line, Milestones, showing at Spring Market. Find Corey's instructions HERE. I've been working on a layout for my blocks (if I ever get them pieced) and have settled on using a neutral tan sashing between some of the blocks for separation. I love how the red/tan/blue of the different fabric lines is all coming together but I felt like it needed some breathing room between some of the busier blocks. This quilt is so fun with all the assorted block sizes this time around. I still have a few to add - and will probably rearrange a dozen times, but I'm loving this scrappy project. I hope you all have enjoyed Blockheads II. It's been a blast! If you love a block-of the month like I do, be sure to stay tuned for the reveal of my 20th anniversary quilt later this month. I'm celebrating 20 years of designing fabric with Moda and wanted to do it up right. Twenty blocks over 10 months with 2 months to finish. Plan to piece along with me in 2020! Be sure to see what the other designers are up to this week. I'm sure alot of them actually have a quilt finished to show you!

My newest collaboration with Martingale, Prairie Life, is due to arrive in just a couple weeks. Here are a few more of the country style quilts I love to make for my home. Shadow Dash Shadow Dash plays with lights and darks to create a secondary block with classic churn dash blocks. I love playing with shades of tans and darks to create a dimensional effect. Great for anyone on your gift list. Goose, Goose, Duck Each spring, we wait for the arrival of a pair of geese that nest on our pond. We can hardly wait for the tiny little fuzzy goslings to emerge and follow their parents around the pond. Flying geese blocks in a variety of sizes pay tribute to their long lasting bond and commitment to their young. Potluck When one of my quilt piecers, Kathy Limpic, had a multitude of half square triangles left over after piecing the Shadow Dash quilt, she made this lovely table topper out of the scraps. A pretty and practical way to utilize extra blocks. Layered Patchwork Mini Quilt I love playing with Moda's Mini Charm 2 1/2" squares. This little gem is made even easier with my Layered Patchwork technique, simplifying quarter squares. It's the perfect way to learn a new method and make a cute little quilt. Watch for more pictures from my new book, Prairie Life, and comment to win an autographed book (as soon as they arrive). Preorder your signed copy of Prairie Life HERE.

Here is another Star Fling quilt, pattern by Atkinson Designs, that was made by our guild and this time they used Kansas Troubles fabrics. The other Star Fling quilt they made was pieced using bright coloured fabrics and had a totally different look. You can see that one here. This quilt is going to be donated to the Respite Room at the Personal Care Home in Flin Flon. The panto used on this one is called Wildflower and looks nice with all the tiny floral prints in the fabrics. I used a light brown So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting. Woke up to more snow this morning but the temperature got up to +3’c today so I enjoyed watching it melt!!! Looks like spring might finally be making its way up north!

Good morning friends! It's Corey of Coriander Quilts here and today, I am excited to introduce you to Strawberry Jam. When I was growing up, every summer when June rolled around, it was strawberry picking time. My Mom would wake my sisters and I up at what felt like the crack of dawn - but more than likely it wasn't much earlier than 7:00 am - to head to the strawberry patch.
