I've had the luxury of laying my eyes on the work of a wonderful artist. Julie Nutting is the creator of these amazing couture works of altered art. I've fallen in love since the very first day I spotted them. I mean they're fashionable, feminine and creatively couture what wouldn't I have liked about them. I discovered her art at an Urban Barn event I was selling at this past summer...unfortunately she left before I got a chance to meet her but since then we've become acquainted via facebook {don't you just love facebook} I do. It didn't matter that we've never met because her art speaks to me every time I see it. I can't wait till I can own an original piece of her work. In the mean-time, feast your eyes on her work via my blog. I hope you fall in love as much as I have. Be Blessed Friday! Living Fancii Ebony

I am slowly unpacking things from my recent trips to Key Largo, Florida and Charlevoix, Michigan. I probably will be posting random images from both trips and what is currently going on, in no particular order ... and why not ... keeps life interesting, I figure. The image above shows a collage I made in Key Largo under the direction of Julie Nutting. She was most generous to share her techniques with all of us there. While mine is a simplified version of her beautiful work, I am non-the-less quite pleased with it. Julie has a book coming out soon called "Collage Couture", I am really looking forward to getting it!

Some of the girls that sold and all went to good homes! Well, I fully intended on writing about Glitterfest but wouldn't you know it? My camera battery died! I will tell about it anyway, but without pictures of the most amazing booths filled with the most charming handmade treasures. This was the second show I've ever done and both shows were just 2 weeks apart. To say I was nervous is an understatement. You just never know how your work will be received or if the show will provide your clientele. This show, like my first, Chateau de Fleurs, was well organized, thank goodness and the vendors very friendly and helpful. All of the booths were amazingly gorgeous and so well put together. I am still on that learning curve! The show was well attended and I am blown away by how many originals I sold. I met the most wonderful women who just made me feel well, good about my art. I so enjoyed talking to them about the process and the inspiration. There were a few celebs that stopped by to say hello. Jenny Doh made the rounds wearing one of her cute little dresses. The always sweet and very supportive, Beth Livesay from Stampington came by also. It's always good to see her. My very first buyer, Maggie came up from Long Beach. Yes, she bought a piece from me a year and a half ago when I was showing my work at Stamp Your Heart Out in Claremont for their art walk. I have to laugh at how nervous I was for that. It was the very first time anyone saw my art in person other than my family! Maggie has been a faithful follower since, taking several of my classes. I learned so much from these shows. First, always remember to check the camera! Second, not to stress out so much. It may be a day with great sales and if it's not, it will be a great day of making new friends and contacts. I set up 2 more shows before the holidays and was approached about doing classes at someones shop. Managing stores my whole life, I made sure I had all price points represented. That worked well for me. I realize not everyone can afford to buy an original but my journals and wooden blocks were all mini versions of my work that anyone could fit in their budget. I will definatly do more shows in the future. These were a lot of fun.

Adore making tags with Julie Nutting's Prima Doll Tags. I joined an "open theme" swap in MAS and decided to do a Steampunk Doll. I combined two doll stamps because I wanted the long legs and smaller shoulders so the corset would fit. First I made some wings & a corset from resin. The Top Hat and skirt are from embossed material I found at my local Walmart that looked like real leather. The large Gear Die is Sizzix and the smaller Gear die is Tim Holtz. Both dies are covered in Anna Griffin's glitter paper. Background paper covering the tag is by Paper Wishes. A chain for hanging and folded a piece of filigree I found on ebay for extra decor. Added a small chain to the side with a few little embellies and some doll hair ... she's ready to hit the town! The rhinestoned trim along the boots and hat is from my stash, not sure how many years it has been stuck in one of my ribbon drawers. The small gears on the hat are also from resin. All resin pieces were painted black and touched with copper Inka Gold. On the back I pulled out some long forgotten punches, a GIANT oval and scallop oval. The corset paper is Graphic 45. The piece on the bottom is resin I molded and some beaded fringe was hot glued along the base. Love how the peacock feather pokes out all over.
