Ressam Jose Ferraz de Almeida Junior 8 Mayıs 1850 dogdu ve 13 Kasım 1899 öldü. Joje, 19. yüzyıl Brezilyalı ünlü bir ressam. O, 19. yüzyılın en önemli ve gerçekçi ressamı olarak kabul edilmektedir. Almeida Junior, Modernist ressamlar için önemli bir ilham kaynağı olmuştur. Brezilyalı akademik sanatçıların en ünlüleri, mitolojik yada tarihsel konularda resim yaparken, Almeida Junior özellikle kırsal figürler, çiftçiler ve caipira, Sao Paulo devletin kırsal alanlarda bir vatandaşlarının resimlerini yapmıştır. Almeida Junior, Sao Paulo eyaletinde küçük bir kasabada doğdu. Rio de Janeiro, Brezilya İmparatorluk Güzel Sanatlar Akademisi'nde eğitim için davet edildi. Brezilya İmparatoru Pedro II tarafından bir burs alarak Fransa'da eğitim aldı. Resim ustalarından biride Alexandre Cabanel oldu.
