\"John Donne would love Odessa's poetry. It is beautiful, thought provoking and unforgettable.\" --Steve Holmes, Esquire \"As a direct result of reading Cleveland's poetry, my soul feels a warmth stirring my imagination. It causes me to relax and enjoy her witty lyrics as they describe life and human nature. She uses a fresh approach to her stanzas, which tends to seduce readers, bringing them into the heart of her thoughts and wisdom.\" --Gerald W. Jones, Faust Award Winner for Listen To My Soul \"Odessa's poems make her readers laugh and cry, look inside themselves, feel the depth of her verse, connect, and simply enjoy the _ ow of words like river water dancing in the sun.\" --Wendy Knepp, Educational Consultant \"Of Age and Edges is _ lled with wisdom. Some of it is edgy, some humorous, but all is insightful because it is based on a common sense approach to living in the world as it is.\" --May Sinclair, PhD, Karmic Tribunal \"Evocative prose ... discerning ... profound.\" --Janice Cipriani-Willis, Dorland Mountain Arts Colony

THE CRESCENT MOON BOOK OF METAPHYSICAL POETRY Edited and introduced by Charlotte Greene. With a new picture gallery, and additional poems for this edition. GIFT BOOK (Pocket Size = 6 x 4 inches) All of the major and many of the minor Metaphysical poets are featured in this anthology, including: John Donne, Lady Mary Wroth, Robert Herrick, George Herbert, Sir William Davenant, the Countess of Sidney Godolphin, Richard Crashaw, John Cleveland, Abraham Cowley, Richard Lovelace, Andrew Marvell, Henry Vaughan, and Thomas Stanley. The Metaphysical poetic style is witty, learned, subjective, sensual, intellectual, reflective, philosophical, baroque, intense, and sometimes ecstatic. Metaphysical poetry was passion and emotion modified by intellect/ ('passionate ratiocination' Herbert Grierson called it), while T.S. Eliot described John Donne's poetry as experience modified by (his) sensibility. Helen Gardener said that Metaphysical verse was 'an expanded epigram', and Margaret Willy called it 'feeling thought'. Metaphysical poetry used satire and irony, as well as the new science (biology, mathematics, cosmology and microcosmic emphasis). It is a poetry concerned with living for the present, with philosophical and religious subjects - with, in short, the soul. It is a dramatic poetry, essentially lyrical, often rough at the edges, with a love of individualized verse forms and writing poems as long as needed to be. After the adherence to traditional stanzas of Elizabethan poetry (the sonnet being the most obvious type), the Metaphysical poets employed a wide variety of forms and metrical patterns. Thomas Traherne for example, wrote in a new verse form each time he composed a poem. Poets such as Vaughan, Traherne and Marvell give the impression of writing until they've finished what they wanted to say. Their poetic forms were open - a short line here, an extended stanza there, as the subject required. Metaphysical poetry was partly 'Classical', partly 'Christian' and partly 'religious'; it was partly humanist, partly Cavalier and partly Elizabethan. John Donne, for example, was just as much Elizabethan, post-Petrarchan, Renaissance and 'Classical' as 'Metaphysical'. Some critics separate the Metaphysical poets' love poems from their religious ones. The distinction may be useful, but it is not how poets write. The boundaries between profane/ sacred, love/ religion, secular/ divine is not that clearly marked by the poets themselves. The 'religious' poems of the Metaphysical poets are often their most erotic. They write of God, the beloved, and their relationship to him, in erotic terms. In poems such as 'The World', for example, Henry Vaughan narrates the old notion of the soul mystically married to the Bridegroom (God). With an introduction and bibliography. The text has been revised for this edition, with new poems added. Includes a new picture gallery. A small, pocket size edition, ideal for gifts. Pictures are likely the closest thing to time travel we have, and luckily, numerous photographers have made it possible for us to travel way back. From photos in family albums taken decades ago to images of famous people on the covers of old magazines, they allow us to catch a glimpse of moments we couldn’t have otherwise witnessed ourselves.

Inspired by the Outlander series of books by Diana Gabaldon, this shawl pattern is written for lace, fingering and sport weight yarn. Knitter’s Choice! (Samples: Blue was knit with Malabrigo Yarn Lace and red was knit with Dale of Norway Tiur.) The center looks like waves and represents both the literal ocean and the figurative ocean of time, both of which are crossed numerous times throughout the book series. The first border pattern is called Horseshoe Lace, which brings to mind horses and Jamie. But, this pattern also looks like rolling hills or mountains-- the landscape of the Scottish Highlands. The last two border patterns are a Celtic knot motif and Thistle Leaves, together symbolizing Claire’s wedding ring. Finally, the points of the knitted edging stand around the perimeter of the shawl, representing the circle of standing stones. Finished Measurement: about 60” square in all yarn weights Materials: Lace weight yarn: 2100 yds OR Fingering weight yarn: 2000 yds OR Sport weight yarn: 1900 yds 29” circular needles in the size you need to get a fabric you like with your yarn and stitch pattern. For most knitters this means using US4 to US6 for lace weight, US6 to US8 for fingering, and US8 to US10 for sport.. You may wish to also have a 40” circular toward the end. Eight stitch markers.
