Our honey bee lapbooks in the making. Lapbook covers in order...Zak's then Tj's and finally Max's cover. They are all so different. I love it! The bee hive cover is free clip art found here. Bee hive pictures coincide with a narrative about how the bees make the wax. The book is a simple one. I took heavy black paper and folded it in half. Then I cut bright yellow printer paper to fit the book. To bind it I punched hole with a hole pucher and tied it together with black embroidary floss. The 'kinds of bees' mini books pictures are found here, and the info about the bees found in The First Book of bees by Albert Tibbits. Life cycle of the bee wheel is from Homeschool Share The anatomy of the bee mini book found here. The honey harvesting process mini books, 9 in all are found here. A friend gave us this fun kit to make bees wax candles. The boys are standing behind the candle they made. I created this copywork notebook. It's FREE at Currclick! The boys are just about finished with it. They like to work on it while I read. Hi there friends! I know you are all busy bees getting ready for school to start. So this is just a little freebie for you to make life easier if you are starting school next week. This is a little response page for the story The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn that I made for my class. Kiddos will write about how they felt on the first day of school. I usually do this activity on day two. Students will write their name and then a word or words for how they were feeling. With my kindergarten students, most can write their name, so they do that independently. I help with the feeling word by writing it in highlighter and the students trace on the letters to write it. For the illustration, you can have the kiddos draw themselves on the first day. You can also have them trace their hands and then sponge paint a heart in the center of the hand. They come out very sweet and I have found this activity is just right for little kinder students. For first graders the entire thing could be done independently. Anyhow, hope you enjoy! There are two different borders because I couldn't decide which one I liked better. Just click on either image to get both of them! This is what the other border looks like: I can tell school is about to start because I am waking up before my alarm with the Aaahhhh!!! I need to do that... feeling. I placed a last minute order for playground balls this morning before I started my other activities. I already had a weird back to school dream in July, so maybe I won't have any others this year. For some reason, it seems hard to believe school is already here. Summer went by extra fast this year. But, sharing my days with those sweet little students will fill my heart and I will not be wishing for the lazy days of summer. OK, I am off to hit the plan book! Best wishes for a smooth beginning of the school year to teachers, parents and students! Happy Teaching!
Remember the game Don't Break the Ice from when you were little? Well, it's still around. I'll bet many of you even have one in your therapy closet. I was at Walmart the other day and found one on sale for $4.88, so naturally I snagged it! It just needed a little something extra to make it work for me. Sooo I created this packet to accompany Don't Break the Ice. This way you can play it articulation style! Here's a little how-to for one of your very own. The first thing to do is print out all of the squares onto card stock. I'd laminate them too for durability (especially since they are going to be banged on!). Then, cut them out. I made them smaller than the actual ice cubes so they should fit fine. Adjust by cutting them down if you need to. Next, stick velcro to the tops of the ice cubes. I used velcro stickers. You can get these at Walmart or any craft store. Stick the other side of the velcro to the backs of the squares. Assemble the game as directed. I put the cubes in before I attach the velcro together. See below. After you squeeze them all in there, attach whatever sound squares you need to target. Each sound is a different color, so you can mix and match what you need. I used all /r/ sounds for this one. There are several ways you can play this game. Here are a few suggestions: 1. Play the game as directed. For each fallen ice cube, the student must say the word (you can have them say it 5 times, in a sentence, using their fluency strategy, etc.). 2. The student has to say the word each time they tap the ice cube. 3. Students can say "I went sledding and brought a..." and list the items on the ice cubes as they collect them. 4. Let them make up silly stories or sentences with the words they collect. This packet comes with ice cube toppers for the following sounds: /r, s, z, l, k, g, f, v, sh, ch, th, dz, r-blends, s-blends, l-blends/. You can grab it at my TPT store here! What do you think? Do any of you have Don't Break the Ice??
