While the establishment of the Bharat Bhavan museum in Madhya Pradesh in 1982 gave equal status to contemporary Indian artists from minority and dominant cultures, figures such as Jangarh Singh Shyam and Jivya Soma Mashe are still relatively unknown internationally. Offering brief profiles of them and 22 other tribal and folk artists, and illustrated with hundreds of their drawings and paintings, this volume celebrates the richness of India’s art.
Read about an Indian artist, Jivya Soma Mashe, known for wonderful Warli painting, which owes their origin to prehistoric rock art.

India, like Canada, has hundreds of Indigenous communities that may lack material wealth but are rich in stories and visual creativity.
Collection et photos Hervé Perdriolle Sadashiv Soma Mashe, 1999, Thane district. Sadashiv Soma Mashe is the oldest son of one of the Indian tribal artists among the most renowned, Jivya Soma Mashe. Sadashiv, born in the years 1960, had been himself the occasion to exhibit in several countries, remaining many times in Japan. His father transmitted his knowledge to him, telling with his sons the Warli tales and legends. Its pictorial style is close of his father, like was, in the past, that of the Master and the student. Medha Kapur shares a note on Warli painting, one of India's most well known tribal art forms The Warlis are the largest tribe found on the northern outskirts of Mumbai. The name is derived from the word 'Warla', which means 'piece of land'. Maharashtra is known for its Warli folk paintings. These are vivid expressions
