Hello my dear friends, I just love being inspired! Sometime last year I came across a photograph of a very lovely scarf on Pinterest and it stayed in my mind all this time. Something about it captured my creative little senses and I just knew that I wanted to create something that had the same 'feel' to it. And this is that scarf ... ... didn't I tell you that it was beautiful?! (Unfortunately I wasn't able to find out who made this lovely piece.) I love the different colors and textures of the wool/yarn and a picture that came into my mind. It was of a morning at a clearing that lays right at the edge of a forest. The sun is shining on all the colors of nature. Little purple flowers are growing between the freshly grown moss that lays between some rocks. This also could take place in the English countryside, in a cottage garden .. somewhere tucked away in a corner. Can you see it in your mind? I didn't want to copy this scarf but did I want to make something that would have the same feel to it which is one the scenes I described to you above. At least that is what I am trying to achieve. As I was thinking of how I could do this, it came to me. There was one way I could try and that was by making something I have done before. A little bit of shopping had to be done, especially for one thing which is a larger part of this creation and I was so happy when I found exactly what I needed ... ... this old lambswool sweater. Once the sweater was found (my foundation to this creation), I could continue looking for other bits and pieces that I needed which was wool/yarn in the right colors. The search didn't have to go further than our guest bedroom where my old tin chest was living. It is full of all sorts of wool and yarn in different colors and textures. I just had to pick the ones that would be perfect for this project. And these were the ones I chose to use. (I am sure some of you already know where this is going! ..) I am already busy working on this project since a little while now but it is far from finished. I will though give you a tiny sneak peek today. This is all I am going to share with all of you today. There is more than one element to this creation and I have to make each one from scratch which is somewhat time consuming but also trail and error and not to forget a lot of fun. There will be a little more searching for a few other bits and pieces that are needed and I can't wait for it to be finished. I am just hoping it will look like the picture in my mind. I am not sure when it will be done but I will be sharing a few more sneak peeks along the way of me making it. So, do stop by from time to time again and see what I have been up too. You never know what I just might have to share. I hope you are well my dear friends and life is treating you kind. Have a peaceful and creative day.

Read text below for course description & Enrol here! Ebb and Flow handspun journey-thread scarf Journey Threads: the Art of Yarn : 8 to 14 April 2012 [ Yarn: story; personal narrative; a journey expressed in thread ] Handspinning is an ancient textile skill currently enjoying a modern revival. The expressive nature of fibre and the dynamic energy of spinning yarn allows for thoughts and emotions to be captured in yarn as it flows through your hands. In this experimental workshop we shall consider the creation of yarn as an act of artistic expression. The very process of hand-spinning reveals the makers’ blueprint, or story, in thread-form. In this workshop we focus on creative yarn making, in which expressive handspun yarn becomes a focal point in the production of a wearable item. Yarn, fibre and threads meander, intertwine and connect to each other using basic handwork methods: knit, crochet, or weave. The finished piece will become “Homage to Self”: a personal narrative spun into a wearable item. This course is catered for all levels of experience. The beginning of the course will introduce students to the skill of spinning on a spindle (wheel spinners welcome), and will cover fibre choice, preparation and structural techniques. Experienced students will gain an extended skill-set in improvised technique. Yarn Design (colour, structure, texture) is an important part of the process. Emphasis will be on the process of discovery whilst learning new skills, often leading to surprising outcomes. A personal narrative will be interpreted into the finished wearable piece. For example, ‘Homage to your Heart’ may be a soft & flowing loose knit or a heart-shaped armour made with knit roving & embellished with handspun crochet. The story you represent in both the threads and the finished piece will be your own creative expression.
A super easy pattern! You will learn the basics of knitting a triangle with a lace border and get to use up all the remnant yarns in your stash! I used all the handspun yarns from my SPINDLING series in this shawl, and it's such a fun piece to wear! MATERIALS Size 35, 32 inch circular needl
