Are your preparing for a long road trip with toddlers? A hard bunch to entertain, here are 14 tried and tested toddler road trip tips.
I can’t speak for your kiddos, but my boys have gone hog wild with the holes in their knees. Really Bradley? 5 pairs of pants (+ 2 pairs of church pants!). I blame it mostly on the long winter spent inside on his hands and knees for hours racing his cars. Both the boys shorts...
This is what I have been working on for quite some time now. My own little caravan. I've been a bit reluctant to post about it because of copyright issues but then I thought.... do I really want to be all squirrely - I would so prefer to share with you guys what I am doing. So, this is what you do when you would love to have caravan, but just can't quite justify it - crochet hooks come out and a new pattern is developed. Keep in mind that this really is a work in progress and any patterns will be a very long way from being released in any format. Meet Rosie. Remember the kitchen sink - this is who it was made for. Both windows have net curtains made from my grandmother's lace. Spare tyre for emergencies. I would love to crawl into this bed for a nap. Cup of tea anyone? The tap is made from an earring. I used my one of my favourite Liberty fabrics for the decking - it's so retro and caravany. And shouldn't all caravans have a name like Rosie or Flo? Unfortunately I'm not keeping this one - she is going to be sold as a fundraiser for the boys' school and is up for auction tonight at the ball. I'll let you know how she goes tomorrow. In the meantime though, I just want to start making the next one! Lots and lots of love, Kate. UPDATE! Since then this pattern has been developed and published in my book "Let's Go Camping! Crochet Your Own Adventure" with many other patterns like ice cream trucks and lakeside cabins. Physical copies have almost sold out but it is available in digital form through online booksellers. There is also an errata page for the book here. If you would like to see another small and magical crochet world with rabbits, click here! If you would like to make a circus, click here.
At long last, a new quilt design to share. I've been working on this fun wall hanghing for babies and kids since July of this year, but it was sidelined as the seasons changed and I took on new editing work in addition to my part-time office job at a pre-school. I had such fun designing this new quilt for kids, featuring vehicles that kids love. Wouldn't it be the perfect wall hanging for a child's room? Toddlers will love this bright and colorful quilted wall hanging...and it's a great teaching tool for words and colors, too! The pattern is designed for raw-edge fusible applique and many of the pieces in the each of the nine blocks (finished size, 8" square) are large so doing machine-blanket stitching around them is an easy way to add details and protect the raw edges. For smaller pieces, especially those with curves, I prefer a short, narrow zigzag stitch. With the exception of the sashing pieces, border, and binding, and the block background pieces, you can use scraps, fat quarters and fat eighths for the appliques. Follow the pattern to a T for the colors, or choose your own colors for each of the fun blocks. Little Red Car Ice Cream Truck Green Tractor Black-and-White Cruiser Yellow School Bus Orange Delivery Truck Red Fire Truck Big Blue Dump Truck Purple Pick-up As with all of my patterns, this one is available as a PDF download for sale at Craftsy. www.craftsy.com/quilting/patterns/cars-and-trucks-oh-my-a-quilt-for-kids/470692 Until next time...hopefully not so long, Keep smiling and sewing...and Happy Holidays from me to you!

Let me start of by saying that process based art should be the focus of your child's art for at least the first 3 years of their life. They should be allowed to explore and play with the materials involved in painting and drawing so that they will develop a confidence and love for art. I spent the first 3 years of my daughters life doing process based art. Lots and lots of scribbles, lines, colors and mixing of paint. Sometimes she would tell me a scribble was a "ghost" or "fireworks," but these
