I guarantee that you cannot find higher quality maps anywhere else. *** About this map *** This is an exceedingly rare, old full colour map of Ireland (also known by its Latin name Hibernia) created by master mapmaker Joan Blaeu from his workshop in Amsterdam and originally published in this Theatrum Orbis Terrarum Sive Atlas Novus in 1654. Back in medieval times Latin was the language of maps, and Hibernia Regnum was the medieval Latin name for 'The Kingdom of Ireland'. Originally handcoloured almost 400 years ago, this is one of the finest examples of this map that I've ever seen. This map looks great at all sizes, from 12x16 inches (30x40cm), to 16x20 inches (40x50cm), 18x24 inches (45x60cm) and beyond. I can print it at large sizes all the way up to 50 inches wide (125cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options. The model in the listing images is holding the 20x16 inch (50x40cm) version of this map. While there's some Latin on this map, most of the place names are in recognisable English. By 1664, many of Ireland's most well known towns and villages already exist. From Dublin to Cork, Limerick to Armagh, Belfast to County Mayo, they're all here. Though those place names were spelt a bit differently almost 400 years ago! The shape of Ireland was a wee bit different back then, too... This map would certainly make a nice gift for anyone in Ireland, or someone who has Ireland close to their heart. You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black wood frame that really makes the map pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. I use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in my frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport. If you're looking for a framed map that isn't in stock, please get in touch and we can discuss your needs. My museum-quality maps are made on thick and durable matte paper. *** CANVAS MAP INFO *** Some of my maps are available as canvas prints. These are 'box canvases' - the map is printed on canvas, and then stretched over a wooden frame. They come with brackets on the back and are 'ready to hang'. My maps look fantastic when printed on canvas, but please note that canvas reduces the sharpness of my maps. So, for example, a small label might be legible on paper, but too small to read on a canvas map. Generally, most of my maps should be fully legible at 24x36 inches (60x90cm). But please get in touch if you want me to check if a specific label will be legible.

It was originally published in 1611 by John Speed, one of the fathers of cartography and England's most notable cartographer of the Jacobean era. It was handcoloured more than 400 years ago and looks really beautiful now that I've restored it. There's an incredible level of detail on this map, with most towns, cities and even some villages in Ireland and Northern Ireland clearly visible on this map. This old map was hand coloured over 400 years ago and, as you can see, is still in amazing condition for a map of this age. Most of the villages and towns are labelled in Modern English, which is nice as you should be able to recognise most place names. Take a look and see if you can spot your home town! In the top left is a beautiful cartouche declaring that the map is the Kingdom of Ireland. Below it are engravings of Irish gentlemen and commoners. Ireland was rather oddly shaped back in 1611, but all of the major towns and cities are already visible - Cork, Dublin, Belfast, etc. This map will be completely sharp at all sizes. The "original" size is 16x20 inches (40x50cm), but it's really beautiful at 18x24 inches and larger. I can print this map at sizes up to 80 inches wide, or over 2 meters. The model in the listing images is holding the 20x16 inch (50x40cm) version of this map. You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. This is a print of an 1715 map of the Kingdom of Ireland, well before independence. Divided into the regions of Ulster, Connacht, Leinster and Munster. *Please note: Prints are ready for framing, but the frame is not included and is for illustration purposes only.* Adapted from a high-resolution scan of the original map, this reproduction map boasts stunning detail, and it has been digitally restored to remove discoloration, creases, and tears while still retaining its vintage look and feel. It is a gorgeous piece that would make for a unique décor item in your living room, bedroom, or home office. This is a museum-quality poster made on thick and durable matte paper. It is Giclée printed on archival, acid-free paper (paper weight: 189 g/m2; paper thickness: 0.26mm). Facts about the map: This hand-colored map of Ireland was published in 1715 by the firm of Nuremberg engraver and publisher Johann Baptist Homann (1663--1724). It is based on earlier works by Nicolaes Visscher (1649-1702), of the second of three generations of Visschers who were art dealers and map publishers in Amsterdam, and Sir William Petty (1623--87), the pioneering English political economist who directed the nationwide cadastral survey of Ireland carried out under Oliver Cromwell in 1656--58. The map is in Latin, but place-names are in English and the original Celtic renderings into English. It has a decorative title cartouche and a scale cartouche. Four distance scales are provided: German, French, English, and Irish miles. Different colors are used to show the four historic provinces of Ireland: Connaught, Leinster, Munster, and Ulster. The map shows the counties and baronies within the provinces, archbishoprics, cities and towns, major roads, and other geographic features. The decorative cartouche in the lower right containing the distance scales shows men engaged in two forms of economic activity, fishing and agriculture. The cartouche is crowned by the British royal coat of arms, consisting of a shield supported by a lion and a unicorn and surrounded by a garter with the Anglo-Norman maxim honi soit qui mal y pense (shamed be he who thinks evil of it).
This map of Leinster, originally published in 1685 by Sir William Petty, is a detailed political and physical map that provides a wealth of information about the region. The map is based on the Down Survey of Ireland, which was the first ever detailed land survey on a national scale...

I restore the maps in my workshop and then reproduce, customise and frame them to suit my customers' needs. I guarantee that you cannot find higher quality maps anywhere else. *** About this map *** This is perhaps the most beautiful historic maps of Ireland I've ever seen. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame, or a framed larger map. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport. My museum-quality maps are made on thick and durable matte paper. Add a wonderful accent to your room and office with these vintage map prints that are sure to brighten any environment.
