Here's a funny story.. you may have heard me share it in one of my videos. I was using the Beautiful Trees dies for these cards, and I thought that there was only one new tree die cut set... but, I soon discovered that there is also this one called Inspiring Canopy dies, part of the Inspiring Thoughts bundle!! Of course I had to play with it and create a pretty encouragement card! I just hadn't noticed both options in the new Stampin' Up! catalog! I created this card for an online swap I participated in last month. I just love it! The main 4 trees die-cut can be cut apart which opens a whole world of possibilities! Here's how I made it: Die-cut the trees and hill using the Inspiring Canopy dies (seen below). Cut the 4 trees apart at the bottom connection point. Set aside. Sponge clouds using Pool Party ink onto the 4" X 5 1/4" Basic White CS. I used the...

Happy Thursday everyone! It's another week at Create with Connie & Mary. Each week I tell myself that I will try to post to my blog some day other than Sundays and Thursdays but....I'm just not finding the time. At least I'm keeping up with the design teams, right?! This week, Connie & Mary have a fun sketch for us: I started playing around with the different elements of the sketch and ended up with something totally different than what I had in mind....let's just say that the sketch was an "inspiration"... It's actually a gate-fold card with the "gate" off-center a little bit. What do you think? An abstract take on the sketch but the elements of it are still there. My base is a 4.25" x 11" piece of Soft Suede, scored at 3.5" and 9". Once folded, it forms a regular A2 sized card. Onto the gate doors, I layered some Calypso Coral paper from the Everyday Enchantment DSP and some Lucky Limeade patterned paper. The focal image is the largest label from Apothecary Art which I colored with Calypso Coral and Lucky Limeade ink and a Blender Pen. I thought the background paper needed a little something, so I stamped the edge of the single stamp, Elizabeth in Soft Suede to frame the center image. I also used Elizabeth on the inside in Soft Suede. I intended to color in just a few parts of the stamp but once I started, I couldn't stop! I like the way it brings in the Lucky Limeade. I would love to know what you think of today's card. A bit different in style from my usual but once the inspiration started, I had to run with it! I hope you'll be inspired to play along with me and the rest of the amazing design team at Create with Connie & Mary this week. Be sure to link up before Wednesday, March 28th at Noon (EST). Thanks for stopping by today! Hi friends! I took a short unplanned break while family was in town for my hubby's 50th birthday! I'm back today at The Paper Players with a pretty monochromatic color challenge from lovely LeAnne: I combined it with the awesome sketch this week at the Global Design Project: Todays colors seemed like the perfect opportunity to play with my new stamp set, Climbing Orchids. I couldn't wait to get my hands on this set. Not only is there nothing else like it in my collection but it's also photopolymer (love) and has coordinating dies (double love)! The monochromatic color palette provides the perfect combination of colors for shading--each one slightly darker than the next. I used the lightest shade, Sweet Sugarplum, for the base color of the orchid bloom. Berry Burst was used to stamp the flower petals and Rich Razzleberry shades the tiny centers of the blossoms. Not wanting to bring in another color, I also thought the dark Rich Razzleberry made the perfect stem for the flowers. It's actually a die from another set called, Seasonal Layers Thinlits. I thought the plain white background set off these colors nicely but it also needed a little something....I washed the card base (Thick Whisper White cardstock) with Wink of Stella and the effect is gorgeous IRL. Difficult to capture in a photo but it gives a soft shimmer to the background and just a little bit of interest. Another tip, the retired gold stripe vellum was attached to a scrap piece of white cardstock and then popped up on dimensionals. Attaching it to the cardstock gives it weight so it doesn't sag when popped up and also hides any adhesive which would otherwise show through the vellum. Another cool tip....extend the use of your photopolymer stamps by using the solid back of the stamp! For the inside of the card, I needed a solid base of Sweet Sugarplum. I flipped over the stamp and attached it to my clear block with the wrong side facing up. I stamped first in Sweet Sugarplum then, took the stamp off the block and reattached it to the block right-side up. Next, stamped the details of the image in the darker shade of Berry Burst for a full color orchid. Here's a couple photos to illustrate: Although they started last week, this is my first week playing alongside our two new Guest Designers, Annie & Jan! Along with returning GD, Deanne, I am so happy to be crafting with all of you! Check out all of our team's amazing works over at The Paper Players. Maybe you will be inspired to play along before the challenge closes on Friday, July 14th at Noon (PST). Thanks for visiting! Edited 7/11/17: So excited that my card was chosen as a #GDPwinner at The Global Design Project--wow! Many thanks to the team for selecting my card. Hi there, friends! I'm so excited to share today's card with you. But first, Jaydee has a wonderful Clean-and-Simple sketch challenge for us over at The Paper Players: Such a great sketch with all kinds of possibilities. While at Stampin' Up's Leadership Conference last weekend, we saw a demonstration using multiple ink pads to color the gorgeous Swallowtail stamp from the Spring Catalog. I was so inspired to try it myself: I turned the stamp rubber side up and applied ink directly with the ink pad, tilting the ink pad and brushing it on in sections like a paintbrush. Starting in the middle and working outward I used Elegant Eggplant, Summer Starfruit and Baja Breeze. Because I wanted the butterfly to float off the edge of the card base and show more of the beautiful stamp, I stamped it again on the Summer Starfruit base using the stamp-a-ma-jig to line it up with the previous stamped image. I also spritzed a little Soft Suede marker across the card front. On the inside, I used Baja Breeze and Summer Starfruit only to ink the butterfly, stamped off once and then onto the Whisper White cardstock. A sentiment from Blooming with Kindness was added to bring in my third color--Elegant Eggplant. With the large Swallowtail stamp, I've shown you just one way to interpret Jaydee's clean-and-simple sketch. Check out the rest of the Design Team for even more gorgeous inspiration. I hope you'll come back to The Paper Players and show us your creation before this challenge closes on Friday, January 25th at Noon (PST). Thanks for stopping by today! Hi everyone, just a quick post to share some new colors and new stamps with you! I was totally inspired by this fabulous card my Mom made: At first, I thought she used an edgelit to cut around the beautiful butterflies but no...she fussy-cut the edge! How cool is that?! The original idea came from Simply Stamped here (4th card down). Awesome idea!! So...I wanted to try it out with all Stampin' Up and here's what I made: I am so happy with the results! I used all the flowers from Betsy's Blossoms and a bunch of new In Colors. All the color combinations are straight from the Color Coach. This first one is so much fun: Gumball Green, Melon Mambo and So Saffron. I stamped all the flowers onto Naturals White cardstock (sturdier than Whisper White), hand cut around the edge, sprinkled some Basic Rhinestones and added a strip of coordinating designer paper to the inside edge. To pull in a little color behind the sentiment, I adhered two pieces of coordinating ribbon behind the banner and added another rhinestone to the end. I think this color combination is my least favorite but I was determined to test out the Color Coach suggestions! Midnight Muse, Rich Razzleberry and More Mustard. I think it might look brighter with Summer Starfruit instead of More Mustard...but that's for another day! I'm disappointed that I didn't get a better picture before I sent this one off to my Mom because this color combination is definitely my favorite! Straight from the Color Coach: Summer Starfruit, Baja Breeze and Elegant Eggplant. Gorgeous together! So what do you think? What other stamp set can you see using with this technique? I'd love to your ideas! Be sure to pop over to my mom's original post to leave her some comment love. Thanks Mom, for the inspiration--it's even prettier in real life! {wink!} Supplies Stamps: Betsy's Blossoms; A Word for You Ink: Gumball Green, Melon Mambo, So Saffron, Midnight Muse, Rich Razzleberry, More Mustard, Baja Breeze, Summer Starfruit and Elegant Eggplant Paper: Naturals White CS; Designer Series Patterns Stack (Regals & Brights); Be of Good Cheer DSP Extras: Basic Rhinestones; So Saffron grosgrain ribbon (ret.); More Mustard Scalloped Dots Ribbon; Baja Breeze Seam Binding Ribbon

Hi friends! It's another fun week with my pals at The Paper Players. The lovely LeAnne has a beautiful color combination for us to work with...take a look: Oh my, that field of lavender is gorgeous isn't it? Beautiful colors and I had the idea that I wanted to make some misty mountains with these colors using the Waterfront stamp set--similar to this card from a couple weeks ago. Whenever I need a kickstart of inspiration I always head to Pinterest and a search for "mountain perspective drawing" yielded this fabulous photo and my idea was born: It took several tries on scrap paper to get the look of the mountains the way that I wanted--dark in the front and fading out in the distance. This really gives depth to the image without adding any extra layers. This is just one panel of cardstock! The front row of mountains is stamped full-strength in Elegant Eggplant--overlapping the mountain image to make the mountain larger. The second row of mountains is full-strength Wisteria Wonder, again overlapping to make it appear larger. The third row is Wisteria Wonder stamped off once and the final row is stamped off twice. Tranquil Tide stamped off once or twice with another image from Waterfront created the forest floor . The trees were stamped full-strength in Tranquil Tide. Finally, I added soaring birds from the High Tide set and a sentiment from Flourishing Phrases both in Elegant Eggplant. The whole front panel is popped up on a thick Whisper White base. Thanks for peeking in on my card today...I hope you liked it! Be sure to check out the rest of the loveliness over at The Paper Players. My teammates have outdone themselves with LeAnne's colors this week! Perhaps you'll be inspired to play along with us before the challenge closes on Friday, April 13th at Noon (PST). Have a great week! The Paper Players Design Team Claire Broadwater Jaydee Joanne James Laurie Schmidt LeAnne Pugliese Nance Leedy Sandy Mathis Annie Abrahamson Jan Clothier Elizabeth Stewart
