Hello again… First let me say thanks to anyone still checking in on my blog. It seems this has been my year for things to happen. Perhaps things will lighten up soon. Meanwhile… I…

My home in the mountains near Albuquerque has proven to be a very nice place to have classes!! The New Mexico sun shines here almost every day, filling the spacious rooms with light. The photo below was taken in the living room during a class on the basics of finger loop braiding. My weaving room (AKA The Color Lab) houses a great stash of yarns! I always have my favorite cotton, Omega Sinfonia, on hand in sufficient quantities and colors for students to choose from. I also sell it from my Etsy shop HERE. I've just finished creating a schedule of classes for 2018. There are several topics to choose from including: Color & Design, Setting up & Weaving, Baltic-Style Pickup, and 3-Color Pickup. For the full schedule, check HERE. To sign up, send me an email to: [email protected]. If these classes don't fit your schedule, contact me for a private lesson. If you live far from Albuquerque, consider taking a vacation here! There are SO many amazing things to see! I'm working with local Airbnb hosts to provide accommodations to students who come from out of the area. I'm especially excited to teach the two hour Color & Design Planning classes for the first time! Playing with color is one of my favorite activities and I can teach you a thing or two about using color in your inkle designs. I have hundreds of woven swatches to look through for inspiration. We can analyze them, talk about design elements and colors, and learn some do's and don'ts. Try my method for weaving up a quick sample without using your loom. I'll help you to chart your own designs on special graph paper so that you can take them with you to use when you set up your loom later. Or, stay for part two of the class and set up your loom while you are still here. Below are a few samples of the 3-Color Pickup technique. Find the book here in paper or PDF format: https://taprootvideo.com/instructorClasses.jsf?iid=12 I love this technique and the color play that it allows.

Thanks to weavers who are more internet savvy than I, there is a lot of information out there. If you are interested in doing pickup patterns, check out this website: www.NorseGirl.com. There are written instructions and a link to her video on YouTube. She does an excellent job of describing the process. I couldn't have done it better myself and highly recommend viewing it if you are at all interested in pickup patterns. She demonstrates one of my favorite patterns, the Celtic knot. Here are some of the variations I have woven. These are done on the speckled background. She also shows how to do a pickup pattern on a horizontal bar background. Here are some examples of that.
INTRODUCTIONHow many looms is too many? As an owner of a rigid heddle loom, a floor loom, bookmark looms, square frame looms, an 8 shaft table loom, a tapestry loom and circular frame looms I can now add an inkle loom to the growing list of treasured looms that I enjoy weaving on. My first floor loom purchase was made about 6 years ago and on collecting the second hand loom the previous owner was incredibly kind in giving me several books. One of the books was called 'Inkle Weaving' by Helene
EDIT: I really appreciate everyone who has told me that they are looking forward to publication. I am too! Thanks for waiting! The book is now in the hands of my designer and publication will be sometime in March, 2019 if nothing else goes wrong. If you want to be put on an email list to be notified when it's ready, please send me a message at: [email protected] and you'll be among the first to know! Due to the popularity of the plain weave patterns that I've shared on this blog, it's become apparent to me that there are many inkle weavers out there who could benefit from having more patterns to choose from as well as well as some tips for designing their own patterns. To respond to this need, I've completed a book which I hope will be educational and inspirational. The book is 115 pages and divided into three sections. Section One is a discussion of color theory and band design including my best tips from years of experiments. Get ideas and resources for choosing color combinations. Section Two illustrates how to get the various elements of inkle patterns. Learn what makes chains, teeth, stripes, etc and how to balance these in your band design. Section Three is full of over 200 individual (interactive!) patterns plus tips for turning these into thousands upon thousands more. To quote Helene Bress, from her book, Inkle Weaving, “With just three colors and 50 threads, almost a trillion, trillion different patterns can be formed for inkle bands! All this can be done in just the simplest type of weave there is—plain weave.” In Celebration of Plain Weave: Color and Design Inspiration for Inkle Weavers will be available as an ebook and in print. Find it here in my Etsy shop in March of 2019. https://www.etsy.com/shop/ASpinnerWeaver

If you aren’t a weaver, it may be better to just enjoy the pretty pictures in this post. If you are a curious person, but not a weaver, some of this will probably stick and make sense. If you…
