Welcome to the TED badge. A "TED Talk" is a short talk/presentation given by someone who is trying to spread a new idea or information. TED talks are highly engaging and informative. TED Talks do not have a lot of text on the screen during the presentation, mainly pictures that help reinforce what the person is saying. TED Talks are informative, engaging, and often leave me thinking. Here are some of my favorite TED Talks for students in middle and high school.
Art can be a solitary pursuit so listening to Ted Talks by artists can fill the silence. A lot of artists have overcome many struggles to gain success and their stories are very motivating.

I love TED talks. I turn to them whenever I need a dose of inspiration and wisdom. But did you know that some of them are also laugh-out-loud funny? If you are in need of a good laugh, check out the following 5 TED talks: all of them are as informative as they are hilarious. Enjoy! James Veitch is a British comedian which will become evident as soon as you start watching him. He turned something very annoying - trying to unsubscribe from emails he never subscribed to in the first place - into the funniest game ever. Didn't I tell you he is awesome? That's why I give you another one of his talks, this time showing us what happens when you reply to spam email. I love me my Brits, and the next speaker, Sir Ken Robinson, is one of the very best ones. He is talking about an important topic, how we are all born being creative and have it educated out of us over time, and he does it with a beautiful dry sense of humour I adore. Tim Urban is all of us: a procrastinator. You will recognize yourself and be thoroughly entertained the entire time! Maysoon Zayid has cerebral palsy - but that's one of the least interesting facts about her. She's a screenwriter and comedian, and her talk is as important as it is funny. There you have it! Planning time rarely gets more than a mention when we talk education reform, but lack of time is a significant part of what's pushing teachers out of schools.

Last year I helped open a brand-new school. Blogging was not on my priority list. Opening a new school was the most amazing experience but I have never worked so hard in my life! In July we will be entering our second year and our team is growing with two new teachers. We will now have SIX first grade teachers! One of the hardest parts of leaving my past school was leaving my first grade team. They are an amazing group of women and we had so much fun! We all were very different teachers and we didn't agree on everything and that was okay because we respected and trusted each other enough to not cause conflict and drama. Our laughter in the lunchroom could be heard all the way down the hall and I still cherish the amazing relationships that we built. Hopefully you have also been blessed to work on a "fun" team. Fun teams happen when teachers feel connected with each other, there is respect, acceptance, communication and most importantly everyone is collaborating and working towards the same goal. I am meeting my team tonight for dinner and drinks and I wanted to give them a small gift to start the year in a fun way. My most borrowed teacher tool last year was my awesome staple-remover. We are provided with "The Claw" from our district and let's be real, it is garbage! I didn't spend $16 on a roll of Fadeless Paper to have it ruined by "The Claw". This staple remover is less than $4 and it's MAGNETIC! I bought each of my teammates one from Amazon and attached this little tag (because who doesn't love Ryan) and my team gifts are done and I know my team is going to be thrilled! Click here to download the tag.
