Inspired by the perfect geometry of Mughal gardens, this quilt is both classic and tailored. Soft-as-a-cloud cotton voile is gloriously light for those who sleep warm or a perfect layer to add to the mix. Available in Sand, Indigo, Azure, Ginger, Gray, and White. All quilts are reversible. Shams and Euros are sold individually. Order a swatch.
Here are more photographs from the “Quilts on the Bayou” show at Jefferson this past weekend. Having done an eight inch paper pieced block not nearly as complicated at the following quilt, I can truly appreciate the work put in the beautiful blue and white creation. Not to mention all that quilting - oh my! I absolutely LOVE this braid border!!! I never would have thought to do this. I made a braid table runner last year for my mother which you can see and read about here. Here’s another paper-pieced marvel. Not only that, the mitered blocks with stripe material and the variegated thread quilting were eye catching. This photo does not capture the full impact of the quilting and design. Appliqued roses with a trellis sashing in pretty shades of pink red and green. Well done! This quilt design was the 2009 Blocks of the Month design by Sue Garman for The Quilt Show. And a winner of a ribbon. We voted this one as our Fan Favorite. Red and Yellow are a vibrant combo in this floral quilt. It felt like the sun was shining indoors. Simple, but elegant, split nine-patch. The nine-patch has to be one of the most versatile blocks in the quilting world. Last but not least, the tumbling blocks with an appliqued border. Even more vibrant and dimensional in person. Hope you enjoyed the quilt show photographs. It's not a big show, but it had some quality entries.

[Nature morte au bougeoir (The Candlestick), Edouard Vuillard, circa 1900. Oil on millboard. National Galleries Scotland. Larger view here.] This post is a sort of test run for a new blog I might start next year. The idea is to scout textiles based on the richly patterned fabrics, rugs, and wall coverings seen in Vuillard's work. Sometimes I might do deep dive research into a particular painting and attempt to find doppelgänger textiles. But I'd also likely share picks just loosely related to what I see in his pictures. For me, part of the appeal of The Candlestick is the juxtaposition of that rugged brown bag against the lighter feminine florals. And I'm drawn to Vuillard's use of blue and white. While a silk damask wall covering would probably be a more fitting choice to reflect the vignette in the painting, today I'm drawn to Bennison's Wabi Sabi fabric in Bright Blue on Oyster. With the tablecloth I'm taking even greater poetic license. A monochromatic 19th-century Buchara suzani done in brown, olive and beige (spied over at Sarajo) in lieu of European brocade, embroidery or lace. But another option could be Ralph Lauren's Box Elder embroidery on linen. [Photo by Jean Pagliuso, circa 1990s, from an unidentified shelter mag story produced by Carolyn Sollis.] Or a cool vintage coverlet. I also realize that there looks to be a great piece of crumple-y white linen in The Candlestick not to mention rich trim on the wallpaper. Those pieces can wait for another day...

Sophisticated and timeless, our Vintage Washed Linen is made using pure flax fibres from plants grown in Normandy, France. The flax plant is a highly sustainable crop, requiring fewer resources and less water to cultivate than other crops, and does not require pesticides or chemicals to grow successfully. Our Vintage Washed Linen has undergone a special wash treatment to create a luxuriously soft hand feel, and with each wash will become even more buttery and soft. Vintage Washed Linen is a superb choice to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer, while offering a perfectly relaxed and lived-in look.
