Striking pictures of Vladimir Lenin disguised as a factory worker at Razliz station in August 1917, and sitting side-by-side with Joseph Stalin in 1922 have been brought to life by the new pictures.
Experts have painstakingly transformed black and white images from around the world for a new book, Retrographic: History in Colour.

Photographer, Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky, was one of the nation’s leading photographers at the beginning of the twentieth century. He was commissioned to capture a photographic record of Russia after the monarch saw his colour portrait of Leo Tolstoy.
