I love finding inspiration from other cultures, sometimes from symbolic images, as is the case with this design based on an adinkra symbol called "mpatapo". It depicts a knot with no beginning or end & is meant to represent the "knot of pacification/reconciliation." Adinkra symbols originate from Ghana & the surrounding area and they represent concepts or aphorisms. They are used extensively in fabrics, logos, and pottery and are incorporated into walls and other architectural features. Regardless of the symbolic meaning, it's a beautiful & bold motif. Your finished piece will be 56 beads across & 88 rows long; if you use the recommended size 11/0 Miyuki Delicas, it will be just under 3" (7.3 cm) square, not including the optional hanging strap at the top. You can lengthen it by adding rows of solid color & the top & bottom. If you use beads other than Delicas, the dimensions will be different & the design might have a different appearance. The pattern calls for black on silver, but feel free to choose your favorite colors. You can give it a very different look by reversing the light & dark colors. TIPS: For a stiffer piece, use thicker thread (I used 0.17mm Fireline). There are multiple options for displaying your finished piece. You can frame it, sew it onto fabric (perhaps a cushion). To hang it, you can attach a length of chain to each of the top corners or you can do what I did: weave a ladder stitch "chain" & attach it in the same manner. Other options are to weave 2 or 3 peyote stitch loops at the top & thread a cord through them or weave extra rows of solid color at the top, fold the top over, sew it to the base, & then insert a cord through the channel you've just created. Here's what you'll get: downloadable pdf with a preview image, bead legend (Miyuki Delica color numbers & quantities for each color), peyote graph, & word chart. The bead quantities listed in the pattern do not include the extra beads needed for any of the finishing methods described above. This is a pattern only, not a tutorial; it presumes knowledge of 2-drop even count peyote stitch. *** Here's a link to Etsy's instructions for downloading your pattern after purchase: https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/115013328108-Downloading-a-Digital-Item?segment=shopping Happy beading!
