Looking for Common Core “short research projects” that won’t feel like work? Do you want research to spark student curiosity? Need to involve inquiry without students realizing it? This bundle includes ten MORE projects that can be conducted in anywhere from 2-5 days! The length of time depends entirely upon the amount of in-class time you provide and what scaffolding you feel necessary for your students. Though these work best for grades 6-10, I have colleagues who use them in their 11th and 12th grade regular or inclusion classes. (Did you miss the original Volume I Bundle? Don't worry - you don't have to use volume 1 in order to teach volume 2.) The project topics vary in themes, standards covered, collaboration level (individual/partner/small group), genre (argumentative vs. informative), speaking vs. just writing, and the final products made, so students will never get bored if you do all 10 projects! EACH project comes with: • Word, PDF, and Google versions • an introduction/directions page for students, • a brainstorming page, • a CCSS-aligned mastery rubric, and • a link to a non-fiction article or video that you can watch or read with students; these articles will help you to dig deeply into the critical thinking issues in each project and can be used to assess Reading Informational Text standards! The articles are all complex reads and from credible organizations. Also included is an extensive Teacher’s Guide that lists all of the projects, themes, products, standards covered, and links to NF articles that correspond to each project. It also clearly delineates 30+ ways to differentiate the projects and how to authentically apply them to both middle school AND high school. This 37-page download includes 10 projects: • The Best in Town: writing critiques of local “bests” • The Future of Education Research programs that will “fix” our schools • Is it Helpful or Dangerous? Debate if technology’s pros outweigh its cons (addiction, etc.) • If Everyone ___: Create “if/then” statements about how to make the world a better place! • Investigating the Truth Research conspiracy theories, hoaxes, and myths to find the “truth” • Life Hacks: The modern version of a “how-to” speech! • Maximize Your Major: Research how to graduate AND get a job straight out of college! • What Would ____ Do? Hypothesize what a historical figure would say about today’s current events. • What’s Your Problem? Use Problem/Solution structure to practice persuasion! • Why is This a Holiday? Research the origins, purposes, and traditions of serious AND silly holidays! • Bonus: Both the PDFs and editable Word files for all projects are included. The “Maximize Your Major” and “What Would ____ Do?” activities can also be purchased individually.
