We wrapped up Friendship Week today. We did a lot of discussing what it means to do a friend and what are some fun/safe things you can do with your friend. I created this fun matching game to use in our sensory bin. I dyed some rice for the first time and it turned out perfect! It also reminded me of grass, so I found pictures of kids on the playground. On the cards I wrote words that describe what a good friend does, like share, help, kind, etc. Then, we picked a card, read the word, and discussed the word more. I added these fun "Buddy Builders" from Amazon and they were perfect "friends" for our park. This book is a great way to talk about the nice things our hands can do. Especially, if you have any kiddos who like to use their hands in an unsafe way ;) I also dyed noodles for the first time, too! We used those noodles to make friendship necklaces! We also used a bead kit for friendship bracelets :) Click on image to grab this bead kit! These peanut butter and jelly color matching cards were a huge hit! We played restaurant and worked together to serve the correct colors. I got these from The Homestead Teacher! Grab them HERE! We like to think of words that start with each letter. When we are out, we will see a letter and I always have to think of something that starts with that letter. It totally helps connect learning, so I made these "F is for friends!" page and we decorated the 'f' different supplies. For our play dough invitation, I printed off this cute friendship clip art set from Creative Clips! We put the friends in our play dough and pretended we were playing at the park! The last game we did was this fun math activity! We had to help the boy get to his friends by rolling our dice and counting each circle. It was a great way to practice some counting, number identification, and taking turns! Grab these activities HERE! *NOTE: the play dough friends are not included in this due to terms of use, but they are free for you to download HERE!

Are you following us on Pinterest? Welcome to this week's TUESDAY TOTS. Brought to you by Learn with Play at home (that's us), Rainy Day Mum, and One Perfect Day This Week: Learn with Play at home is showcasing 8 Invitations to Play for toddlers (many suitable for babies too) These great posts all came from last weeks Tuesday Tots linkup where we featured 10 Quiet Activities for Kids What is an Invitation to Play? One of the easiest ways to keep your toddler busy and learning is with a great Invitation to Play. An Invitation to Play is just as it sounds. Inviting your child to play with certain materials. Your job is to provide the collection of materials and your child's job is to investigate, explore and play with as they like. Invitations to Play should be open ended with no set outcome at the end. However, it is easy to steer an Invitation to Play towards particular learning areas without forcing the issue, simply by the choice of materials that you supply them with. For example, for sensory investigations you'd provide them with sensory materials. If your aim is for them to learn more about colours or shapes or numbers, then the materials you include in the Invitation to Play would include those colours, shapes or numbers etc. Here are some fun ideas for various materials that you could set out for your child to explore that were linked up in last week's Tuesday Tots. FEATURED 1. Invitation to play with Light and Colour from Sow Sprout Play 2. Invitation to play with Water (inside) from Learn with Play at Home 3. Well, in my 14 years at Zamo we never had rain to contend with during our Celebration of Art festivities... until last night, that is. I must say, that although unusual for San Diego in July, the rain did not dampen the spirit of the event at all:) Attendance was robust and their were tons of smiles to brighten any gloom that drops from the sky may have brought. Again, our incredible classroom teachers and staff were amazing while leading 10 different activities for our community to participate in. Our PTF rocked ticket and food sales. Our administration hung tough in the wet silent auction area. We were visited by our School Board President, the San Diego County VAPA Coordinator, and this morning our SDUSD Superintendent stopped by too. I am so proud of what our kids accomplish every year. It's so great to be able to share the creative work of our students with our school community and VAPA decision makers at the district level and beyond. Thanks to everyone who lent a hand in making the event another great evening of art making and art appreciation! We couldn't do it without you. our school musicians kicking off the evening. rain!
