Palencia is a city of Spain located in the autonomous community of Castile and León. It is the capital and most populated municipality of the province of Palencia. In plain English, it is north of Madrid, in the central Spanish plateau, along the Carrion River. Cayetano Enríquez de Salamanca was a Spanish author and publisher who wrote many books on art, history, geography, and Romanesque architecture. I was intrigued by Salamanca’s detailed guide to this northwest region of the Iberian Peninsula because I would love to travel all throughout Spain. Here he covers not only Palencia, but all the way north to the Carrion National Fountains Preserve. The inside back cover’s map details will be of interest to campers, hikers, and general tourists who want to plan a route outside of the city. Our copy was published in 1977 by Editorial Everest, S.A. as part of a series by Al Merito Turistico and the Ministerio de Informacion y Turismo- Espana so please note: This book is written completely in the Spanish language, which may help you brush up on your high school Spanish before you venture forth. And the maps need no explanation since the place names stay the same. The copious photography, which we always enjoy poring over, can also guide you to the major sites to see in each city of the region. Our hardcover guide is in very good condition with a shiny, colorful, clean cover with only a few nicks and minor denting to the corners. Inside, the spine is slightly loose, which to me, helps the thick, glossy pages lay open flat, and there is no tearing at the inside covers and flyleaves- probably built extra thick since these display the two maps you will be flipping to the most! The pages are clean with no underlining, highlighting, or folded corners and only minor foxing can be seen on a few pages’ white margins. Altogether, a beautiful keepsake of past Spanish journeys or an inspiring guide to a part of Spain you have yet to explore. Measures 7 ¼” tall x 5” wide with 172 pages... in Spanish! A find by Lee! *For international shipping prices, convo us your location!*
