Kegel Exercises - The One Exercise You Should Be Doing But Aren'tLike most women who have never given birth, I never put much thought into Kegel exercises. You and I have both read a million times that you need to be doing Kegels during your commute, your meetings, at home, and everywhere in between - but does anybody really know why? It turns out, Kegel exercises are all about getting your pelvic floor muscles strong - AKA the muscles that control your urine flow and hold your pelvic organs in place. And they're not only for women expecting a child either. In fact, there's several reasons why a doctor would recommend you do Kegel exercises. Here's just a few: • Stress incontinence: This means leaking urine when you laugh, cough, sneeze, run, or lift something heavy. • Urge incontinence:This is a need to pee that is so strong you can't reach the toilet in time. • Pelvic floor weakness due to childbirth: Childbirth can stretch and weaken pelvic floor muscles, and that can cause urine control problems. It can also allow one or more pelvic organs to sag. When the uterus sags, it's called uterine prolapse. Women can help prevent this problem by doing daily Kegels during and after pregnancy. And while a doctor probably wouldn't prescribe Kegals for this reason, people believe that Kegel exercises can also help give you better orgasms.How to do Kegel exercises: The awesome thing about doing Kegels is that no one can even tell you're doing them. You can do them anywhere and everywhere and nobody would even notice that you're working on jacking up those pelvic floor muscles. Step 1: Find the muscles you use to stop urinating. Step 2: Squeeze these muscles for 3 seconds. Then relax for 3 seconds. Your stomach and thigh muscles should not tighten when you do this. Step 3: Add 1 second each week until you are able to squeeze for 10 seconds each time. Step 4: Repeat this exercise 10 to 15 times per session. Try to do this at least 3 times a day. Tip: Don't do Kegels while you urinate. Doing them during urination can hurt your bladder.If you want to go all in Physical body exercises can help with Kegels, too. Moves like bridges, wall squats and jumping jacks cause you to engage your pelvic floor muscles automatically. Your lower back muscles and lower stomach muscles work in conjunction with your pelvic floor muscles, helping to strengthen the entire pelvic region. If you are super dedicated to working on your pelvic floor muscles, there are Kegel exercisers that include weights and balls that can help intensify your workout. When you insert Kegel balls or Ben Wa balls, you have to contract your pelvic floor muscles muscles to keep the balls in place. Otherwise, they'll just drop right out. Try them out at home and try to keep them inside as you do things around the house. There are also phone apps can help you build upon your Kegel workout while giving you new goals to reach every day. If you're consistent and put the work in these apps will help you track your effort.
