Hi friends! Happy Monday Made It! This weekend, I made some cloth erasers for my student chalkboards that I have in my room. These could also be used for student whiteboards if you have those instead (which you probably do...). I've heard of other people using socks to erase or other cloths, but I didn't have any of those, so I made these instead! They are based on the directions I found at maya*made. If you can use a sewing machine at all, you can make these in a snap! Here's how you do it. First, you will need to get some cotton batting. This can be found in the bolts at any fabric store. I bought a yard, which will make about 27 erasers. Once you have your cotton batting, cut rectangles that are 5 inches by 10 inches. Next, take one rectangle and fold it like so: Then, you will sew all the way around it. Sew about 1/4" in from the edges. It's really not that big of a deal if it's not perfect, just remember... it is an eraser. :) After that, sew parallel lines. Make as many as you want to, as far apart or as close as you want to. If you are a Type A sort of personality, yours will look much more perfect and beautiful than mine. I"m cool with that. :) Then that's it! The original directions said to use pinking shears and cut all the way around. That does make it cuter ... but my border around isn't really thick enough. So here is a little pile of them! They all look different, just like snowflakes!! Each eraser took me about 3 minutes to make. Just sew, sew, sew! My sewing machine skills are like... first grade level (if first graders use sewing machines), so if I can do it, so can you! I made some of these last summer for my class and the kids LOVED THEM. Absolutely 100%. They are really cute and they erase well. And if you use them for dry erase markers, just throw them in the wash after a while. And I leave you with a little funny today: Haha! Have a good week!
I have wanted to attempt the quilt for quite some time now, but had absolutely no idea where to begin with one. Really, no idea. I was scared. So I put it off. Over and over again. But with a new little one coming I was feeling inspired to give it a go...somehow. I've come to learn that the Internet can 'teach' you to do pretty much anything. So I logged on and I searched and searched until I finally came across this, a beginning quilting series from Diary of a Quilter...she made me believe. She's got ALL the steps spelled out for you in black and white, from what supplies to start with all the way to binding your quilt...and she's so easy to follow! I was actually excited to get going! So I went through my scraps...I didn't want to go out and purchase a bunch of fabric, just in case things went amiss. I knew I wanted to use different textures and patterns since I would be using this as a little tummy time mat for baby. So I got creative and pulled out some knit, minky, and even a ruffled pillow sham that I had left over from the nursery pillows. I cut the back off the sham... Then cut my squares with my rotary cutter...I used 5 inch squares. Then it was time to lay out my squares in the pattern I thought worked. Then following the instructions from Diary of a Quilter I started piecing my quilt and made rows with my squares... And ironed my seams...the iron will become your very best friend during this project! Next I sewed my rows together. And it started to look like something that resembled an actual quilt. I added my borders and batting and backing and really started to get excited because there were now layers to my quilt. But the excitement came to a screeching halt when I learned that I had to baste my quilt. Huh!? I had never heard of such a thing! Who knew this step existed? And that there was spray and special basting pins involved. Well, I was on a roll and wasn't about to throw in the towel at this point, so even with being ill prepared and without proper equipment...I rolled on, with regular old safety pins. And I'll tell you, they worked just fine. Okay, so this is where I started to get a little nervous. It was time to actually quilt...that is to say, SeW. Preferably in straight lines. And because I was a little lazy (and really anxious to finish) I totally skipped a step and didn't draw lines to mark where to sew...such a rebel. I just eyeballed my way through, and do you know, some of the lines actually lined up! So at this point I am jumping up and down that I might actually see this thing through. All there was left to do was finish with a little binding. So I cut my strips and pinned... And I FINISHED that quilt! So there it is...PrOof. Because if I can do it, YOU certainly can too!

it's the best time of year! a decorated apartment with lots of Christmas trees, Christmas movies playing all the time while i work on orders, and we're getting ready to travel north next week for the holidays. we'll be flying this year (with fig!) and it'll be her first time flying, so we will see how that goes.. she's not a fan of being put in a bag. but who is really. well, speaking of decorating for Christmas, i wanted to share this tiny tree garland pattern i made. i crocheted a couple of them, one in green to look like little trees, and one in black for a geometric look. crochet triangle christmas tree garland: hook size 1.65 mm number 10 crochet thread in one or two colors, for triangles and garland thread needle chain 2 row one: 2 single crochets in 2nd chain from hook, turn. row 2: ch 1, 2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next stitch. turn. (3 scs across) row 3: ch 1, 2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in each stitch across. turn. (4 scs across) rows 4-9: repeat row 3 (at end of row 9, there will be 10 scs across) slip stitch around the entire triangle to finish: at end of row 9, turn, ch 1, slip stitch in each sc across. (10 slip stitches across) do not turn, ch 1, sl st in same place (corner made), turn the corner and make 8 more slip stitches up the side of the triangle along the edges of each former row. (9 slip stitches) (sl st, ch 1, sl st) in top corner of triangle. turn the corner and sl st down the other side of the triangle along the edges of each row. (9 slip stitches) sl st to beginning turning chain. fasten off and weave in ends. use the needle to thread the triangles onto the garland. (along the back so the thread doesn't show)

Today's Fitness Tip is simply this: STOP MAKING EXCUSES! I used to be the queen of excuses until I realized this... (Click HERE for source.) All those people I see running in the early morning, or who have those amazing bodies that I secretly wish I had... they all started somewhere. They stopped making excuses, and they found the time to make their health a priority. (Click HERE for image source.) Even if its not an issue with time, we often find other excuses to hold us back. For a long time mine was that I was too fat to run! I was embarrassed to be seen with my jelly rolls and swishing boobies bouncing down the street. I kept telling myself I would eat better and lose a few pounds and THEN I would get outside and run. And since I've NEVER eaten well, I NEVER got out the door. (Click HERE for image source.) Then I realized I had a choice. I could sit around and feel sorry about the way I looked, or I could be embarrassed for a short time about my fleshy food storage, whilst simultaneously working it off and gaining a body that I would no longer feel sorry about! (Click HERE for image source.) Admittedly, It is still a trial to get out of bed and out the door EVERY morning. But when my alarm goes off at 6 am (and sometimes 5 am if that's the only free time I have) and the excuses start to flood my mind, I simply repeat to myself, "You will regret it if you don't get up! Get up! Get up! GET UP!" And then, I get out of bed and do something good for myself and my body! (Click HERE for image source.) So remember, a year from now you will wish you had started today. Don't wait until then to get yourself in gear. Stop allowing your excuses to rule your life and just get up and DO IT!
