It is so important to not only get to know your students the first week of school, but to also have your students get to know YOU, their teacher. Kids LOVE knowing a little bit about their teacher and their life outside of the classroom :) Turn this Powerpoint and recording sheet into a little game. Present a question from the Powerpoint and have students first record their prediction. Then reveal the answer (you will have to edit the "answer" slides with info about YOU before playing this game...you can even insert your own photographs if you would like!) Students can write in the correct answer next to the prediction column on the recording sheet. I like to use this answer sheet as an informal handwriting and spelling assessment. This game is sure to be a hit with your kiddos! 15 questions with editable answers are included. The recording sheet appears on two pages. Slides are already set to print on 8.5x11 paper. Just copy front to back :) If you would rather have this game in Google Slides then click HERE . I also have a completely editable version in which you can add your own questions (10 total): • GETTING TO KNOW MY TEACHER GAME TEMPLATE IN GOOGLE SLIDES™ • GETTING TO KNOW MY TEACHER GAME TEMPLATE IN POWERPOINT *************************************************************************** Follow Me so you can be notified about my latest reources!

This needs to be on every small business owner's and Main Street Director's must-read list.\"-Liz Parham, Director of North Carolina Main Street \"Marketing 3-4-5(TM) takes the fear out of the subject of marketing and gives you the tools to execute local marketing. Brian Ostrovsky has done an excellent job of laying out the steps to help you.\"-Howard Behar, President Starbucks, retired \"I found the book to be an interesting stream of consciousness on marketing that any business owner would find useful. It underscored the neglected issue of time and how business owners are disadvantaged by relegated marketing to quick chores instead of spending time learning its complexities. It also rips the bandage off SMBs' increasing reliance on social media without truly understanding its strengths and weaknesses. I'd recommend it to any business owner or novice marketer as a book that can help adjust a company's marketing course in the right direction.\"-Gordon Borrell, CEO Borrell Associates \"A winning strategy that any small business can follow and see results over time. Brian Ostrovsky distills complex information in an easy-to-use framework.\"-Joe Pulizzi, Founder, The Tilt and Author, Content Inc. \"As an agency marketer, the number one advice I share with every client partner is 'no one can tell your story better than YOU.' Frida Ghitis says online hoarding of our private information is not something we can afford to “dismiss.”
A survey found that many online daters consider lousy grammar a turnoff and more than a third consider good grammar ‘sexy.’ Is lousy grammar a deal breaker on a date? If some guy or gal—regardless of looks—asks, “Where we eating at?” will you politely reply, “You and I will dine together when you’ve mastered third-grade […]

Okay, I think it's time to lighten the mood around here and yesterday the lovely Sal of Already Pretty sent me just the thing. How utterly stupendous is this sewing machine diagram from Regretsy? (The original R-rated version is here. Both versions are available in poster form here because you know you want this on the wall in your sewing nook!) I can't decide what my favorite feature is on this machine: the "horn of gondor" or the "cryhole." I also have a feeling "bobbinator" will be making its way into my regular vocab. Aside from delighting me to no end, this image also made wonder how well we sewists really know the terminology of our machines. Would you know a tension disk if it hit you in the head? How about a shuttle race? If you've read the book Sew Everything Workshop by Diana Rupp, you'll know that she's adamant that sewers should know the names of each part of the machine. She takes you through it all very well - there's even a quiz at the end of the chapter! Being the dutiful little student that I am, I took it seriously (and I totally aced the quiz, guys!) so I have a pretty firm handle on the major exterior parts. But I would be pretty much useless were I to be confronted with a . . . motor, or whatever else is inside there. It could be magical gnomes running the thing for all I know. How about you? Do you have the technical lingo down? Or are you all about the "spinny thing" and the "wheel of numbers"? Are you going to order this poster? Admit it, you totally are!

This is just a quick post to share an update that I just added to my Guided Reading Goodies resource. I am a bit of a perfectionist (okay, maybe a lot!). I decided to make editable versions of the Book Basic Cards that I use for Guided Reading. I currently have mine handwritten, and my handwriting is pretty much driving me nuts. If I'm going to take the time to laminate them, then they have to be just right. The resource still has the whole set of cards that can printed and hand-written, but I just added 4 more cards that are editable. You can't change any of the headings, but you can fill in all the blanks. You can even change the levels in the top right corner. Here is a peek at what they look like. I use them to guide my Guided Reading lessons. I have about 11 years worth of handwritten cards that I need to convert over to my new template. That sounds like a fun project (not so!). The goal is to have a ring for each level. I go through so many books a year, there is no way I can remember every single book. This gives me a basic idea of what the book is about and how I want to lead the discussion. The real magic happens in those teachable moments that happen while reading. If you have purchased this resource, please head back to re-download the updated file. I also wanted to share my latest freebie. I plan on using activity in my Sight word station. I usually have my students quiz a buddy on their sight words. I will have them write down any words they missed on this template. They will keep this page, so they can continue to practice the words they missed at home. They can check them off as they master them. I will do a final little sight work check to ensure they are all mastered. If they master all of the words on a ring, then they are VICTORIOUS! They will get a punch on the sight word punch card. In case you aren't familiar with my sight word rings, they look like this: They are a freebie in my teacher store. The file says second grade, but they are not just for second grade. They are the First 300 Fry words. You can click here to download them at TPT.

I have just found the BEST new technology resource for our classroom & it is FREE!!!!!!................ Reminder 101 Have you ever gotten home and remembered that you needed to send a REMINDER note home with your students? Some of you are thinking, just send an e-mail. I do then sit down and send an e-mail to those who have one. With the clientele that I teach not all of them have computers or internet, but they ALL have cell phones. How about sending a TEXT message to your parents? The best parts are that they DO NOT see your cell phone number AND they CANNOT respond to the text message. With this App you can send out a reminder message about a field trip, picture day, a change in homework, or a reminder about the next day being a test and. on a day before THE BIG test you can ask the parents to get their child to bed early and plan a good breakfast. It is VERY easy for teachers and parents to sign up for and use!!!!! Here is how it works for teachers: 1. I, the teacher, would go to the website and create an account and a classroom, or download the app. They have one for the iPhone and Android. 2. You will get a class "phone number" and a code. 3. Give the parents the text code that they need to send to a phone number that is assigned to your class. 4. The parents would then get a text saying, "Your Name" needs them to respond to the text identifying themselves. a. I would have the parents add who their child is into their name. b. At NO point do you see the parents' phone number. c. You also will NEVER import it into your phone or contacts. :) 5. Once I have my parents imported I can send a mass text out to the parents. a. I can only send a text to everyone. b. I cannot choose individual recipients. It is all or nothing. c. They CANNOT reply to any text you would send them. If they tried to reply to one of your texts Reminder101 would send them an alert stating that they cannot reply to the text. 6. VERY user friendly!!!! Side Notes to Remember: 1. I would strongly suggest that you get permission from your administrator. 2. Remember this is FREE for teachers, BUT if a parent/person has limited texts with their cell phone carrier they may be charged. 3. You can ONLY send a mass message to all of your parents. You CANNOT pick and choose parents to send a message to. What a great tool for teachers and the best thing is that it is FREE!! @Remind101 Their website: https://www.remind101.com/ What a great tool for teachers and the best thing is that it is FREE.
I used to be really good about my online and photo storage, but you know. Life. I’ve been really behind for six months or so. Six months of writing and photo memories that I would be devastated to lose in the event of theft or a computer breakdown. So I’m forcing myself to catch up. Not all in one day, I’ll have to space out this task over several sessions. And I use the same steps whether I’m backing up my pictures or my important documents. But it’s the photos that take the longest. Here’s my plan of action to...
