Read these 10 preparedness quotes from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and be spiritually prepared for emergency situations!
Here are some quotes I put together with some temple pictures for our temple trek we are doing this summer. This was such a fun project. We will display these at our Night of Excellence this fall as well. Enjoy these. I did not take any of these pictures of the temples. I just made the quotes on top of the pictures. Most of them I gathered just by googling the temple name.
Today we talked about Mormon from the Book of Mormon. He abridged the Book of Mormon and his son, Moroni recorded many of his teachings after his death. I thought Hope was a good power for him to have. He mentions faith, hope, and charity in some teachings Moroni recorded, not to mention I think he had to have hope that someday people would read the writings from the Book of Mormon and believe in them. You can download his Scripture Chart here. We watched LDS Scripture Video about Mormon. We also watched some other videos. I had a hard time finding activities to do with the kids about Mormon or hope. You can watch "O Ye Fair Ones" which is a short video with Mormon and Moroni. A Mother's Hope is a favorite Mormon Channel video that we watched. There is also this video clip about hope. I made this sign that says "Hope" and cut it out so they could put the puzzle together to figure out how what Mormon's power was. After watching the videos and talking about Mormon and what he did throughout his life I used these pictures to have them help me figure out which description matched the picture. Tomorrow we will talk about Moroni. Then we will have a week of a break. When we return we will review those people we talked about in the Book of Mormon and then talk about people in the Old Testament.
Recently, LDS author Heather Farrell created a comprehensive list of women in the Old Testamentin preparation for a new book similar to the one she created about women in the New Testament.
Captain Moroni has a very valiant man. If you have any doubt of that you just need to read Alma 48:17. My oldest was excited to talk about him because he said Captain Moroni was his favorite person in the Book of Mormon. You can download this scripture hero chart here. We watched several videos today. From the LDS Scripture videos we watched Chapter 32, 33, and 34. We also watched a video called "Firm in the Faith" which is a video about Captain Moroni being a hero and his confrontation with Zerahemnah. Check out Teaching LDS Children's lesson on Moroni Defeating Zerahemnah and Captain Moroni and the Title of Liberty. We talked about wearing the armor of God and what each piece represents in wearing Spiritual Armor (missing in the picture is the shield and sword). You can find this to print and the descriptions in the first lesson about Captain Moroni in the link above. A Year of FHE has a good lesson on Captain Moroni and The Title of Liberty as well. It also includes this idea of making our own Title of Liberty using paper and straws. Here are all three with their own Titles of Liberty. I also came across this cool coloring page about wearing the armor of God. There is also one for girls. We also sang "I Will Be Valiant" from the Children's Songbook.
I loved this idea I found on Pinterest I don't know about the rest of you, but when I get home from church I feel like collapsing and not waking up for at least 2 hours. But, that usually doesn't happen for me. I find that I'm terribly grumpy unless I have an action plan. My kids need me to be a leader and teach them how to use time wisely, especially on Sunday's. Now the Lord kind of feels strongly about keeping the Sabbath Day Holy. It really isn't too much to ask of us is it. One day in the week that we set aside to worship, relax, bond, pray, study, serve, learn, etc. Those things sound really nice but how much do they really happen? I for one need to be more deliberate in my Sabbath Day worship and activities. Anyhoo, there is a lot of Thou Shalt Not's on the Sabbath Day, so I like the approach of the Sunday 'cans' to show just how much we Can do on Sunday's. So many ways to show our Heavenly Father that we are willing to dedicate one day to Him completely. He is happy when we are strengthening others and lifting our families and spending time on things of a better. So, here is the low down on the whole project. From start to finish it took about 1 hour. 1 hour investment for several hours worth of activities. Good trade. That is not a crinkle in the paper, it is just the lighting of the camera form my phone It actually looks very smooth in real life. Okay, so if you haven't ever bought sticker paper or label paper, now is the time. It is such a great thing to have on hand for quick-non messy crafts. For $19.95 you get 100 sheets (which has lasted me about 1 year). Print out the free download on your label paper and then you just have to cut around the lines. There is 80 in this download. It took me and my daughters 25 minutes to get them all cut out. Not bad. The labels perfectly fit these jumbo craft sticks that I got at Walmart for like $.80 or something insanely cheap like that. They are great to have on hand for all sorts of crafts. I just tear of a small part of the back and line it up and push it down. So easy and so free of messes. The kids were able to do it just great. (Ages 4-10) They aren't perfect, but they are so so close, and I love that we made them together. There is also a download for the backs that are applied just the same as the fronts. Trim around the edges for a nice clean look. Wallah! Finished. Now I am armed with ideas and inspiration to help keep the Sabbath Day filled with uplifting ways to spend our day of rest together. It sure beets the tired, stressed out mom that I usually am on Sunday's, who is so tired after sacrament meeting and doesn't an ounce of creativity to come up with anything at the moment even remotely close to uplifting. I can now refer to my 'can' can and happiness will abound. So excited to implement this into my family. BTW, I just used an old pudding can, but any Campbell's soup can or jar or whatever you have can work. My label is about 4" x 11". So make sure your can isn't taller than 4" There are two can labels, one to put on the underneath layer and one to cover any gaps for the top layer. Happy Sabbath! You 'can' do it too! Click HERE for the Sunday activities download, and 'blanks' to create your own activities.

We made these cute little Pedicure baskets for the Young Women for Christmas presents this year. It came to about $6.25/per girl. We only have about 15 girls so the cost wasn't too much. We used "Stand in Holy Places" as our final sum-up for 2013 but I made one for the 2014 theme that would fit well for a New Years gift or New Beginnings idea. I know the Stand fits better with the whole pedicure theme, but hey, girls can never get enough of anything fuzzy and pretty. You can click below for the download. Download

Today we talked about Abinadi. You can download his scripture hero chart here. I used clip art from Free LDS Clip Art. I love how Abinadi stood strong and testified even as he was being burned to death and thought it was appropriate to make his power testimony. As always we watched the LDS scripture video about Abinadi and King Noah. We also watched a little video clip from Living Scriptures. I told the story using these flannel board figures. After that we sang "I Belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" instead of just sitting or standing I marched around our living room and had them follow me as we sang. A Year of FHE has a great lesson about Abinadi. It also includes this book mark that each of my children colored. Then I laminated them and we put ribbon through them . I also used another game that I got out of a Finch Family Game book. You can see their website here. This game was about testimonies. We had to spell out the word testimony by matching the cards up. The cards were different things we can have a testimony about. After the game I bore my testimony to my children and gave them the opportunity to share their testimonies as well. They have already guessed that we will be talking about Alma next. :)

I was making some Proclamation print outs for my kids' rooms and I thought I would go ahead and go crazy and make a bunch for you too. There are16 girl choices and I'm doing 16 boy choices in another post so this one is gigantic. Choose which one you want, print it out, put it in a frame and wallah! Having the proclamation on display in our homes will help all of us to know the will of the Lord pertaining to families and it will help encourage us to defend the family, know the doctrine and aid us defending the family and our God given roles and responsibilities as His sons and daughters. Display it with pride! Alright, get choosing. Proclamation for Girls (large download of all of them- takes awhile) OR, you can click on the links below for individual downloads. I think for a lot of people starting a scripture journal can be intimidating. How do I begin? Where do I start? In contemplating this I came up with the idea to do a more in depth kind of kit that focuses on a chapter in the Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 1. This kit tells you what to study on, so that you don't have to come
Today we reviewed the people in the Book of Mormon that we have talked about so far. I showed them pictures from the Gospel Art Kit and had...
Dun dun dun. One of my new year resolutions was to do FHE every night this year. I laughed at my own resolution, but suprisingly its been so far so good! One of the first things I wanted to teach and read to my kids was the Book of Mormon. Here's why! You know how in primary they teach the stories and songs and will tell examples of prophets and stuff, yeah do you really think the kids have any idea what they are talking about? No not really. I've also secretly always wanted to use the excuse when my kids are naughty to ask if they're acting like Nephi or laman and Lemuel. I think it's important to teach kids the scripture stories first so when you need to use a life lesson or example they have something to refer back to! I've felt like having family home evenings with my kids made me a bad mom. Haha! I yelled at them more than Bringing the spirit into our home. ITS SO HARD! Their patience Is 0 and well, so is mine! I've come up with something that has worked pretty well so far and it's kind of a no brainer! So to tell you that my kids sit there listen and obey now 100% is complete lies! They don't. BUT! They are so much better and they are listening even if they act like they're not. I have a 5 year old, a two year old and a 6 month old. Obviously the baby doesn't listen, the two year old is a long shot. Usually I find that he will participate in prayer and that's it. However, their are coloring lds apps and other church apps for kids that he will sit and do during the lesson, if not find what works for your kids. Now for my 5 year old, she is old enough to understand but not patient enough to sit and read the scriptures. Here are my steps to reading the Book of Mormon in a year turning them into family home evenings and having your kids listen!: 1. Break the Book of Mormon into sections. What books (in order) can you read in a month, how many can you fit in a month, ect.? Space it out so it measures to be a year. Then break the chapters/verses into four weeks. 2. Take that chapter(s) for week 1 and read it alone!!! This is so important! Do not physically sit there and read the scriptures to your kids if their patience is zero. You read what you will be teaching that week by yourself or with your spouse. This can go towards personal scripture study too. Win win :) 3. Take what you read and turn it into a 5 minute lesson! If that! 5 minutes is pushing it for us. Teach it in a way your kids understand best. Whether that's just an activity, drawing pictures on a white board (in advance) and telling the story about it. That is what we usually do. You know how they learn best, DO THAT! 4. Remind your kids daily of what you learned the past week. While doing so, keep them excited that after each "book" In the Book of Mormon at the end of the month there is a "scripture book party". This motivates them to listen, and they end up reminding YOU to do fhe if you forget! (Pictured below.) You can tweak this to however you want! 5. Have the parties at the end of the month in reference to what the books meaning was about! Change them however best fits your family. But remember to remind them during the party why you are doing what you are doing at that party. 6. Have a refresher once in a while to go through (in 5 min) what you have learned from the very beginning. I cannot explain the happiness I feel and the spirit I feel when my kids randomly repeats to me things we have read and I'm shocked at what they remember!! I'll find my 2 year old "reading" the book of mormon, just looking at the pages atleast for 15 minutes. They DO listen even if they are dancing around the room and upside down the whole lesson. (MY KIDS) One thing I have learned is Kids love theatrics. Make your lesson fun and dramatic. My kids laugh and laugh but that's how they remember. And although you might not feel the spirit during the lesson, after you have the end of the month party, YOU WILL! Trust me! After we have had our parties, I have never felt the spirit stronger! They need this! And they will remember. It is so worth it not only for your kids but for you. Don't give up! I will be posting our monthly Scripture book parties (eventually) (ha) to show how much fun we are having and the simpleness of our fhe!
Hello! It's Kendall (future-missionary)! Last month I met with my Bishop and started working on my "mission papers" (online mission application). I still haven't submitted my "papers" yet, but I'm part-way done and I'm getting closer. Sometimes there are things you need to work on that take longer than planned (for some people, it's worthiness issues that need to be resolved over time. Others might be waiting until they have saved a certain amount of money. Others might need to get health issues under control before they submit their papers. Some people just have to wait until a certain date to make sure they are old enough - there is a limit to how early you can submit your papers. Basically, there are a lot of things that need to line up just right before the paperwork can be submitted). I don't turn 19 until the end of the year, and I hope to be able to submit my mission papers in the next few months and be out in the field at the end of the year or early 2019. Meanwhile, there is a lot of waiting. But there are a lot of things that need to be done (like the usual stuff- dentist appointments, etc). There are also a lot of other things that many people don't think about doing until after they receive their mission call (like picking out the scripture for your mission plaque or setting up a mission blog). I made a list of everything I could think of that needs to be done before I leave for the MTC that CAN be done before I have my mission call. Obviously, I can't start packing or buy mission-specific clothes yet, but there are still a lot of things that I can do without knowing where I will serve. To avoid getting depressed about things that I can't do yet because I don't have my papers in yet, this list is ONLY for things that can be done before my call arrives. Many of these things I've listed could wait until after I (finally) get my mission call, but I feel like any detail I can take care of now will make things less-stressful for me later AND doing some of these things now makes me feel like I'm not just sitting around doing nothing. I made a list of everything that I could think of that CAN be done between now and when I get my mission call. Your list may be different (depending on your preferences and what you have or haven't already done)...I didn't put "get a passport" or "get wisdom teeth removed" on my list because I already did those things earlier this year. My mom has a blog post about 15 things you can do while you're waiting to submit your mission papers and a lot of my ideas came from that post ("Starting your Mission Papers? 15 Things to do While You're Waiting for Your Call" which you can read HERE) - so you should check that out, because there are more ideas on there that I didn't put on my list (only because I already did them). b Here is my list (I hope this helps you come up with your own list!): __Temple Prep Class (last class for me was this past Sunday. I had to miss it because I had a council meeting, but I got the ok from my home ward Bishop, so we're good!) __Dental Appointment (I have a cavity that needs to be filled, appointment coming up) __Have dentist fill out dental paperwork __Renew my limited-use temple recommend (mine just expired) __Meet the BMI/weight requirements for a missionary (more info HERE) __Make small family photo album to show investigators/members __Make small personal family/friend photo album for myself __Print my pedigree chart __Practice sewing repairs (fix a hem, sew on a button, patch a hole, etc) __Set up a missionary blog __Meet with Bishop (monthly) __Make a list of my usernames/passwords/PIN#s __Make exercise plans for mission __Take a mission photo (for mission application) __Take missionary photos (for farewell invites, blog, social media, etc) __Take family group photos __Pick out the scripture for my mission plaque __Study Preach My Gospel __Memorize the headings in Preach My Gospel (more about this HERE) __Memorize Doctrine & Covenants Section 4, The Missionary Purpose, My Missionary Commission, The Standard of Truth, and the First Vision (free printables & more about this HERE) __Make a list of my favorite things (treats, etc) to leave for my parents (in case they want to send care packages) __Laminate pamphlets (A missionary serving in our Stake had a set of handouts that were laminated for his own use during lessons, etc. I want to have a set!) __Make & laminate a Plan of Salvation visual aid* __Schedule final doctor appointment to get medical paperwork done __Read the standard works (Old Testament, New Testament, Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price) __Put together a useful sewing kit (only things I would need) __Put together a useful first aid kit __Make a list of what mission clothes/supplies I already have __Make a list of what mission clothes/supplies I know I still need (so far) *You MAY want to wait to make a plan of salvation visual aid. Some missions are stricter than others about creating your own visual aids and/or what they look like. And you might not be in an English-speaking area, so if you make a set with English words on it, that won't be much help.

Today we talked about King Benjamin. You can download his Scripture Hero Chart here. There are many wonderful things that King Benjamin taught, but I thought focusing on service and Mosiah 2:17 would be best for him. We watched the LDS Scripture video about King Benjamin. A Year of FHE has a wonderful lesson about King Benjamin I used it to help teach my kids about him and we also did this fun printable. They each colored something and then we looked up the scriptures listed and read them together. I got this coloring page to do from the church's website. It is a color by number coloring page. We used toothpicks and marshmallows to make our own towers since King Benjamin had a tower built so that he could be seen and heard by more people. I thought about different service things we could do and decided to keep it simple. I want my kids to realize that they can do simple acts of service each day especially in our own home. I suggested we make their Dad's "lunch" that he takes to work today (he works swing shift so lunch is really dinner). They loved the idea and even made him a little note for him. (My youngest did not want to be part of that picture) They were really excited to have their dad find out that we had made it for him and so he didn't have to do it. I think King Benjamin is awesome. We learn so much from his teachings.
I'm going to be going over each page in the monthly section of the planners today to give those who aren't familiar with it a good overview. The planners are available now for PRE-ORDER. I will show you a lot of sample pages in this post. I printed these off from my computer so this is not my real handwriting and not necessarily my real schedules or goals, they are just mock-ups, so take everything you see with a grain of salt and don't assume I ever have it all together like it appears on these calendar pages, because i rarely ever, if ever, have it all together. That's why I desperately rely on my planner to help me sort of maintain a sane life. :) Relationship Tracker: This page is found at the beginning of each monthly section. The whole purpose of this page is to help keep at the center of your focus or priorities, those people who matter most. It really is all about relationships and how we are trying to improve them and strengthening them. You can make them long or just a one word focus. It's up to you. The Monthly Calendar: I find that I have PLENTY of room to jot down the goings on in my family on this calendar spread. I don't get too detailed with things because I usually do that on the weekly calendar, but my sister loves to use this spread as the main hubbub of her family scheduling. Here are some samples of how much you can fit on these pages. The Weekly Spread: This spread is so awesome, because it is so customizable. You can categorize, organize and schedule exactly the way you would like. Here are a few examples: MONTHLY TO-DO'S & BUDGET TRACKER: This is such a great tool in the planner because it allows you to zone in on the particular 'to-do' lists that most of us have each month. There is always somebody to pray for, something to read, a person to visit, a place to visit, a gift to give or somebody that needs a phone-call or a letter/email. This is the place to dump your brain and list your goals and the things you want to accomplish for the month. The budget is small and simple but I added quite a few more lines so that you can customize it more to fit your needs. Here is an example. I just made the numbers up on the budget section off the top of my head so don't take this example as a serious budget. This middle section has been tweaked a little and left blank for you to use as you would like. I'm personally going to be using it as a project dump Here it is filled out side by side. There really is so much space on this. MENU/EXERCISE/WORK/WHATEVER YOU WANT SPREAD: -This is new to the planner this year 2016- This spread is so cool, because we can use it however we want. This extra space can be used for menu planning, groceries, self-improvements, exercise, work scheduling, church calling, kids schedules, baby feedings and so much more. The sky is the limit! FOR MORE IDEAS ON HOW TO USE THIS PARTICULAR SPREAD SEE POST HERE All of the planners have these pages that I've already covered. From here on out, I'll be covering the additional pages that are in the LDS versions of the planner, the Mothers who Know and the Know it, live it, love it planners. Family Home Evening Spread: This spread is really what makes this planner so different from the rest. It allows to have ALL of our plans in one location which usually means we will use it more and see it and remember a lot more than we would having several different notebooks or planners. It really isn't too big or too hard to jot down a few ideas, conversations, discussions, lesson plans. I don't feel overwhelmed at all because I have small and simple things written down to help me be a little better at parenting. I love it because I can keep track of who's turn it is to do what without any fighting. The fighting and arguing is what inspired this spread in the first place. It hasn't happened since because THE PLANNER KNOWS ALL! Haha! My kids reach for the planner when it's time for FHE and I have refereed to it time and time again just to remember what the heck we talked about last week. MOM BRAIN for sure around here. This spread has helped me stay on top of our goals and wants for our family. When we talk about an idea, I write it down. If I don't it somehow disappears into the abyss of all things forgotten. Which, for me, is usually never retrieved again. Sunday Lessons/Inspiration Spread: I love having access to this spread. I can see what my kids are learning, or if I'm a primary teacher, I can see the current topics. Same with the Young Men and Young Women. I use these pages to keep ideas and thoughts for my calling. Also, I use it to jot down inspirations I get as I listen to the lessons or the speakers. I love referring to these pages for ideas to discuss in FHE or in my meetings at church. Behind these sections are blank lined pages for notes and such to use as we please. I like to use them to record thoughts from my scripture studies or conference talks. Sometimes, I have used them for journaling or doing a quick re-cap of the month. There are 3 total each month. As you can see, there is SO much space in this planner to dump our brains. To form lists, to dedicate for goals and ideals. I haven't even covered the front section of the planner or the back section called 'Home and Family' that is included in the LDS mom version as well as the Non-denominational mom planner. I will save that for a different post, but if you want to look at a preview, you can click here. The planners are now available for PRE-ORDER in the store. Grab yours today.
In Alma 7, the High Priest Alma delivered words that discharged his three-fold commission to speak openly to the people of Gideon about the way of the Lord, his paths, and the coming of the Son of God. In speaking profoundly and prophetically, Alma alludes to three uses of the word “path” from the Israelite temple tradition found especially in the Psalms and in Isaiah: the Lord’s paths of righteousness that lead to him, the path or sacred way that leads to the temple, and the path that the Lord will use in coming upon the face of the earth.
Learning and Living the Gospel So we wanted to come up with a fun way to do a scripture chase. We found scriptures that fit with a Valentines theme... So we thought conversational hearts was super cute-- the girls worked together to match up the hearts to the scriptures and find the answers. We divided up the girls into 2 groups to race with each other They received the scripture reference then they had to read it out loud, run to the candy bowl, pick out the conversational heart that it best matched with, run back to the group and read the next scripture. The first team to complete this game won a sticker- I am sure we could have found something better- but stickers are fun! Afterwards we went into the kitchen to decorate cupcakes with hearts and candy sprinkles. These girls are super fun!! Here is the list of Scriptures we used- but you may have to find the scriptures that best match your hearts: John 3:16 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.— ”ONLY ME” John 13:34 34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.— “LOVE ONE” Alma 32:21 21 And now as I said concerning faith—faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true.— ”IT’S TRUE” 1 Corinthians 10:4 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.— ”YOU ROCK” Mosiah 26:18 18 Yea, blessed is this people who are willing to bear my name; for in my name shall they be called; and they are mine.—-”BE MINE” John 4:36-37 36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. 37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.— ”TRUE ONE” 1 Kings 18:30 30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down.— ”COME NEAR” 1 Nephi 11:30 30 And it came to pass that the angel spake unto me again, saying: Look! And I looked, and I beheld the heavens open again, and I saw angels descending upon the children of men; and they did minister unto them.— ”ANGEL” 3 Nephi 14:7 7 Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.— ”ASK ME” Ezekiel 34:31 31 And ye my flock, the flock of my pasture, are men, and I am your God, saith the Lord God.— ”U R MINE” 1 Nephi 3:2 2 And it came to pass that he spake unto me, saying: Behold I have dreamed a dream, in the which the Lord hath commanded me that thou and thy brethren shall return to Jerusalem.— ”DREAM” Philippians 2:2 2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being ofone accord, of one mind.--- "ONE LOVE"

Today we talked about Moroni and truth. You can download his Scripture Hero Chart here. We watched the final two chapters in the Book of Mormon LDS Scripture videos. I played a game that they really enjoyed I would make a statement and if it was true they stood up, if it was untrue they laid down. For example, I would say, "The sky is blue." And they would stand. When I said, "The grass is purple" they would lay down. Simple, but they had fund doing that for a while. Then we put together this puzzle I made. We watched the Living Scripture video clip about Moroni. We also watched this Book of Mormon video about promise of the Book of Mormon. We read this story from the Friend about honesty and telling the truth. Primary Manual 4 Lesson 44 is a good resource to help talk about Moroni. There isn't a ton of activities out there for Mormon or Moroni which is interesting since they are key people in the Book of Mormon. We have had a busy week though, so doing less for our Scripture Hero camp has worked out.
