Kinetic sculptor Anthony Howe lives and works in a rural area in Eastsound, Washington surrounded by little more than trees, wind, and other natural elements that inspire his incredible kinetic sculptures. Howe works primarily with stainless steel which he welds to create carefully engineered objects powered by the slightest breeze. I do love this box, too. It is very much a la Joseph Cornell. It was created in 1983. The photo in the background was from an art magazine from the 50's or 60's.The woman and horse are an old engraving I purchased in an antique store, and are mounted on foam core. I placed a piece of mirror on the bottom, which serves as water and reflects the horse's head. I traced an image of the celestial constellations in silver ink on the back of the glass. The wooden dowel gives balance to the images and oh my it's a pole (since I now no longer ride, but pole dance, how fortuitous!).
