James C Christensen " Fiona " Limited Edition Print 450 Signed and Numbered 14" x 17.5" in size MINT CONDITION Write-Up On The Piece Clothed in garb of cobwebs and moonlight, "Fiona" catches your gaze. Like all of the sídhe (faeries) she is breathtakingly beautiful, but Fiona is more than meets the eye. Celtic legends tell of men and women who followed the unearthly music of the faeries deep into the woods and were never seen again. Other folk tell a friendlier tale of the leanan sídhe, the faerie muses who protect artists and poets in exchange for their immortal love. James Christensen’s "Fiona" shines in her natural adornments. If you look closely, you’ll see the half-hidden subjects of her kingdom: flowers, animals and insects, hidden amid her garments. If you look closer still, you just might find exactly what you seek, but beware — the promises of faeries are fleeting and nothing is ever quite what it seems. James C Christensen- Biography Inspired by the world’s myths, fables and tales of imagination, James C. Christensen’s work adds up to more than a beautiful - if sometimes “curious” looking work of art. Having taught art professionally for over 20 years, he thought of the world as his classroom. His hope is that through whatever he creates -- be it a porcelain, fine art print or book -- he can convey a message, inspiration or a simple laugh. He believes that teaching people to use their imagination helps us find solutions to sooth the stresses of everyday life-or get a little lift to help us keep going. In short: all things are possible when you share Christensen’s philosophy that “Believing is Seeing.” Christensen was born in 1942 and raised in Culver City, California. He studied painting at Brigham Young University and, for a while, the University of California at Los Angeles before finishing his formal education at BYU. Since then, he has had one-man shows in the West and the Northeast and his work is prized in collections throughout the U.S. and Europe. Christensen has also won all the professional art honors the World Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention can bestow, as well as multiple Chesley Awards from the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists. Christensen has been designated as a “Utah Art Treasure,” one of Utah’s Top 100 Artists by the Springville Museum of Art and received the Governor’s Award for Art awarded by the Utah Arts Council recognizing the significance of Christensen’s artwork to Utah’s cultural communities. He was inducted into the U.S. Art magazine’s Hall of Fame and is an Honored Alumnus at Brigham Young University for his contributions to fine art and education. James and his wife Carole were co- chairs on the Mormon Arts Foundation. He was a frequent guest lecturer at Brigham Young University, and has also given workshops to large companies and organizations on the subject of creative thinking, including the California Art Educator’s Association, Hallmark and Intermountain Health Care. Two Angels Discussing Botticelli- By James C. Christensen. Some people say seeing is believing. You know, "I'll believe it when I see ...
There are a lot of great artists in the world. Some great artists happen to be mormon. There is a lot of "art" at the LDS bookstores of the world. Most of the mormon artists I like, are not people you can buy a painting by at the LDS bookstore. Here are some mormon artists I really love: Cassandra Barney Kirk Hays Ron Richmond Justin Taylor Tyson Snow Emilie McPhie James Christensen Brian Kershisnik Very often these artist have themes which I find inspiring and I relate to culturally. More so than ANOTHER rendering of Jesus as a blue-eyed smiling guy. (that latest smiling Jesus by Parsons is just too much for me...) Anyway, I just thought I would share.

James C Christensen " The Great Garibaldi " Limited Edition Print 450 Signed and Numbered 20" x 25" in size MINT CONDITION Write-Up On The Piece "Look again. Paintings grow out of many things and this one is from my love of things not being what they seem. The inside scoop is that 'The Great Garibaldi' is the fish (the gold perch is called a 'garibaldi'), not the impressive - looking mountebank or the little sycophant." Mermaids are one of the most enchanting mythological tales told by sea-faring folk but there are some stories of mermaids told by those who we might call 'average'people too. Here are some of those stories.

In the fantastic world of James C. Christensen’s paintings, fish are a symbol of magic and wisdom. “Their floating presence in the air reminds us that anything is possible,” says Christensen, “and those touched or surrounded by fish are considered truly blessed. When the fish don’t arrive, however, sometimes a person will take matters into his own hands, with compelling but less-than-convincing results. Non-magical fish, as you can see, don’t really enjoy hanging in mid-air.”
