Kruissteek borduurpatroon Merklap Blauw is een prachtig borduurpatroon met huisjes, letters, cijfers en harten. Als je het borduurt op een stof met 5,4 kruisjes per cm (14 count aïda of 28 count linnen of eavenweave stof) wordt het ontwerp ca. 19,1 x 19,1 cm. Het patroon is 103 x 103 steken breed en hoog. Zelf borduurde ik dit ontwerp met DMC Mouliné nummer 930, maar het kan natuurlijk in elke gewenste kleur worden geborduurd. Je ontvangt het patroon digitaal. Na aankoop kun je de drie PDF bestanden direct downloaden: 1 x patroon met zwart/wit symbolen 1 x patroon met symbolen op kleur 1 x instructies in Engels en Nederlands. After much fiddling with my new EQ7 software, I finally have templates for my Wonky House block that are ready to share and download! You may remember this block from my massive Stash Bee block catch up from last month. Pauline requested wonky houses for her month back in February and I definitely hesitated as I've mentioned before that I don't do wonky very well. A lightbulb went off and I thought to design a paper piecing "wonky" pattern with EQ7. This way I could have my cake and eat it too...the block would be perfectly wonky...with the bonus of crisp template lines to follow along with. I'm not going to share a tutorial for paper piecing in general, as there are several awesome ones out there in blog land, and why reinvent the wheel. If you have never paper pieced before, or need a refresher, check out Faith of Fresh Lemon's Quilts Paper Piecing Tutorial her's is my favorite! The Wonky House Paper Piecing Templates can be found here. Block size is 12.5" unfinished, or 12" finished. Please download the file to your computer before printing the templates, as I've found the block sizing to be off when printing directly from Google documents. Cut out all template pieces and paper piece using the numbered sections on each template. Once all your sections are pieced, use the above diagram to assemble your block. Please note sections A, H and I are single fabric sections. Due to the size constrictions of fitting the template pieces onto standard 8.5" x 11" paper for printing, this was the only option. Also, please note that the above finished block is a mirror image (read: backward) of the template pieces. Once your block is pieced, admire your work! Also be sure to add it to the SewCraftyJess Flickr group, as I'd love to see your interpretation! If you are interested in the ramblings of my EQ7 experiences so far, check out the review below: I had been in the market for quilt design software for some time now, and had deliberated between several options. I have used the TouchDraw app for my iPad thus far for quilt patterns and tutorial illustrations, which has worked great, but I really wanted something to help design paper piecing templates. I checked out jumping in with Adobe Illustrator, but ultimately thought that might be a little more than I really needed (and pricier too!), as well as checked out a few online quilt design options including Thread Bias' Quilt Design Tool, but decided that I wanted something that would be downloaded to my computer and not require a monthly subscription fee. After ruling out these options, I settled on Electric Quilt's EQ7. After receiving my software in the mail (I ordered from Fat Quarter Shop) I spent quite a bit of time reviewing the users manual for EQ7, learning the ins and outs of the software, as well as watching the demo videos and tips that are built right into the software. I also purchased the book EQ With Me: Pieced Drawing, as I was still a little unsure of the best way to use the software to design blocks that I had in mind. I can't say enough good things about this book. It takes each of the modes available in the EQ7 software and teaches you how to use them via a multitude of step by step tutorials (lessons) detailing how to construct various blocks of assorted difficulty. If I had known about this book from the beginning, I would have skipped the users manual and dove right into the lessons, as I'm a hands-on learner. So far, there hasn't been a quilt block I've come up with that EQ7 couldn't design, or a quilt layout that didn't easily come together. I'm also a huge fan of the ability to import fabric swatches to get an actual image of what a quilt will look like with certain fabrics. As for the cons, my main dislike is the lack of instruction within the software and users manual itself for using each function to actually construct quilt blocks. Maybe its just me, but I find its one thing to understand how a tool works and another to apply that tool in a string of 9 other tools to make a finished product. Now as mentioned before, the EQ With Me book completely did this for me, but after spending all that money on the software, its understandable to not want to spend another $30 on a book to learn how to use the software. One of the main reasons I wanted this software was to design paper piecing templates not only for myself, but to share with all you lovely readers. While EQ7 makes the designing aspect of this incredibly easy (once getting the hang of things), it doesn't make the sharing part easy at all. I found (and confirmed) that there is no way to save the resulting pages of paper piecing templates as an image document or PDF in the software. While this is no big deal if only making templates for yourself, but it poses a huge problem if planning on sharing the templates as a download with others. There is a way around this, I used Shape Moth's suggestion of installing a free PDF creator (I downloaded this one for free and it works like a charm) that lists itself among your printer options, so instead of printing the final copy of paper piecing templates via a printer, you can "print" them by selecting the PDF creator from the drop down printer selector which then results in PDF pages to save to your computer that are ready to download, instead of printed pages. Let me make myself clear, most of my gripes I have have nothing to do with the actual function of how the software works to design quilts and quilt blocks, but instead are with the little extras that would help with the finishing stages of publishing and sharing paper piecing templates. Perhaps this is where I should have considered Adobe Illustrator (and its heftier price tag) for publishing purposes, but in case you perhaps are considering EQ7 for the same reasons, I thought I'd share my experiences. On the whole, I can't say enough good things about this software and its ease of use, and only a minuscule amount of gripes, which for the most part I have been able to navigate around. I definitely give it a two thumbs up, which if I had to purchase again, would do so in a heartbeat! Disclaimer: I have not been paid in any way for this review. It is simply an unbiased review of my thoughts and impressions to share with others who may be in the market for quilt design software.

Sunbonnet Sue in Winter Wonderland is een ontwerp dat mijn liefde voor kerstquilts, Sunbonnet Sue, huisjes en landschapjes combineert. Het patroon bestaat uit 8 ovale blokken die op een gequilte ondergrond geappliqueerd worden. Het patroon bestaat uit drie aparte PDF files omdat de bestanden te groot zijn om ze samen te voegen tot 1 document; de kwaliteit van de foto's zou dan door de grootte enorm afnemen. Het eerste deel bestaat uit een overzicht van de benodigde materialen en stoffen en een uitgebreide werkbeschrijving hoe de blokken en de quilt gemaakt wordt. Allemaal leuke huisjes haakte ik. Waarschijnlijk onder het mom van "waar het hart vol van is ...". De planning is namelijk dat deze week het dak op ons nieuwe huis geplaatst wordt ... joepie! De gehaakte huisjes hebben een mooi plekje in onze grote krans voor het raam gekregen. Deze huisjes zijn ook ontzettend leuk op een kaartje om mensen te feliciteren met hun nieuwe huis. Daarom voor jullie het patroontje, zodat je ook aan de slag kunt. Voor het dak liet ik mij inspireren door dit huisje. De gevel met raampjes bedacht ik zelf, zodat het huisje na het afwerken van het haakdraadje direct helemaal af is. Mocht je zo'n huisje op je eigen blog plaatsen, laat je het mij dan weten? Barn finishes by 6 by 8 inches I designed this block to have a float at the top so I wouldn't have to watch the triangle points while sewing long rows. I plan to make 143 blocks, set 13 by 11, 78 by 88 inches. My design, use at your pleasure. For this tutorial I feature a block made with a delightful vintage fabric depicting gold panning, pick axes, and bags of gold dust. My neighbor Sharon took in the sewing stash of a neighbor who died and I chose this. It was the cut aways from a shirt construction and there was just enough for this block. It is a rough weave cotton and I guess it is from the 1950s. Cutting: Solid Cut one 3 1/2 by 2 1/2 inch rectangle and two triangles from a 4 inch strip using Bonnie Hunter's Essential Triangle tool or the EZ angle Print Cut two 3 1/2 by 2 1/2 inch rectangles, one 2 1/2 by 6 1/2 inch rectangle, and one triangle from a 3 1/2 inch strip using Bonnie Hunter's tool or the EZ Companion Angle. Trimming: After sewing left sky to the roof and pressing to the roof, use ruler to trim away excess Pressing: Press left sky to the barn roof; press right roof to the sky Press away from the door to the barn Press the lintels up in half the blocks and down in the other half so every other block will nest into each other. Press left sky to roof Carefully trim excess sky to have a straight sewing line for right sky Press roof to right sky piece. Trim dog ears. This pattern had been tested by Nancy and i thank her for helping me write my first pattern. So now, I present you my very first free pattern. Happy Frog Materials -Yarn – use a yarn and hook to make a solid fabric so you can’t see the stuffing so any favourite yarn will do ; worsted weight, DK, or even if you want to make a furry frog.. not a problem.. but I use 4 ply acrylic. - Hook - any suitable hook – I used 4/0 (2.3mm) hook -Stuffing - Google eyes or patch of felt - anything -Tapestry needle Directions Note: This pattern is worked in continuous rounds but if you comfortable in making it in round; it doesn’t make any different too. Head Row 1: Make 6 sc in magic ring. Het begon allemaal met een berichtje op mijn Blog over een poppenquiltje. Een huisjesquilt met héle kleine huisjes, gemaakt van allemaal verschillende restjes reproduktie stof. Het was zo gezellig om te maken dat het jammer was toen het klaar was. Dus kwam het plan bij me op om een GROTE huisjesquilt te gaan maken, met wel 366 huisjes, voor elke dag van het jaar 2012 een huisje! Maar om zo'n quilt nu alleen te gaan maken... Waarom niet samen? Dus deed ik een oproep aan alle quilters om mee te doen. Ieder maakt haar/zijn eigen quilt, uitgaande van hetzelfde blok, maar in haar/zijn eigen kleuren en stoffen. Ik was verbaasd over de hoeveelheid reacties. Heel veel mensen willen meedoen, daarom besloot ik dit Blog op te richten zodat we de krachten kunnen bundelen. It all started with a message on my Blog about a little doll quilt. A quilt with véry tiny houses, made of a lot of different scraps. I enjoyed making it so much that I was sad it was finished. So the idea came to me to make a HUGE quilt with a lot of houses, 366 houses, one for each day of the year 2012. But to make such a quilt on my own... Why not do it together? So I called up all quilters to join. Everybody makes her/his own quilt, using the same house block, in it's own colours and fabrics. I was overwhelmed about the amount of comment. Many quilters like to join, that's why I decided to set up this Blog so we can see who's joining.

Stuff the Mushroom Stem and Cap, and position Mushroom Cap on top. Stitch together, lining up each stitch, stuffing more as you go. Set aside. Porch With yarn B and E hook, ch 12. Row 1: Hdc into 3rd ch and next 9 sts (10 sts) Rows 2-5: Ch 2, turn, hdc into each st across (10 sts) Row 6: Ch 3, turn, working into BLO, hdc into 3rd ch and next 10 sts (11 sts) Row 7: Ch 2, turn, hdc into each st (11 sts) Row 8: Ch 3, turn, hdc into 3rd ch and next 2 sts (3 sts) Row 9: Ch 2, turn, hdc into 3 sts (3 sts) Row 10: Ch 2, turn, hdc into next 3 sts, ch 10 (3 sts) Row 11: Ch 2, turn, hdc into 3rd ch from the hook, next 9 ch, and next 2 sts (12 sts) Row 12: Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog, hdc into next 9 sts (11 sts) Row 13: Ch 2, turn, hdc into front loops only (FLO) of next 10 sts (10 sts) Rows 14-17: Ch 2, turn, hdc into each st (10 sts) Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Lay the Porch piece flat over a piece of plastic canvas. Trace the shape onto the canvas. Trim the canvas, cutting into three pieces slightly smaller than the crocheted piece. Stitch the plastic canvas pieces around the edges into the Porch shape. Fold the crocheted fabric around the assembled pieces and stitch edges around to secure. Position the Porch onto the base of the Mushroom. Using matching yarn B, sew the two edges into place as shown. Weave in ends. Porch Roof With yarn C and an E hook, ch 8. Row 1: Sc into 2nd ch from hook and next 6 ch (7 sts) Rows 2-7: Ch 1, turn, sc into each st (7 sts) Row 8: Ch 1, turn, sc into BLO of each st (7 sts) Rows 9-15: Ch 1, turn, sc into each st (7 sts) Fasten off and leave a long tail. Sew the Roof to the top of the Porch along each side and across the front, and sew the back to the house. Weave in ends. Door With yarn C and an E hook, ch 7. Row 1: Hdc into 3rd ch from hook and next 4 sts (5 sts) Rows 2-4: Ch 2, turn, hdc into each st. Row 5: Ch 1, turn, sc into first st, hdc into next st, (hdc, 2 dc, hdc) into next st, hdc into next st, sc into last st (7 sts) Row 6: Ch 1, turn, sc evenly all the way around edge. Fasten off and leave a long tail. Sew a small brown button to the front of the Door. Lay the Door on a piece of plastic canvas and trace the shape of the Door. Trim the canvas smaller than the Door. Use the yarn tail to sew the Door to the plastic canvas. Thread a yarn needle with yarn B (light brown) and stitch several long stitches across the front of the Door. Sew one side of the door to the Porch opening. Weave in ends. Large Windows (Make 2) With yarn C and an E hook, make an adjustable ring, ch 1, sc 6 into ring. Pull tail gently to close ring. Position into place on the House and use the yarn tail to sew to the house. Cut a small circle from blue felt. Cut circle into four pieces and glue to the Window. Small Window (Make 1) With yarn C and an E hook, make an adjustable ring, ch 1, sc 6 into ring. Pull tail gently to close ring. Rnd 1: Work 2 sc into each st (12 sts) Rnd 2: *(2 Sc into next st, sc into next st), rep from * to end of rnd (18 sts) Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Position into place on the House and use the yarn tail to sew to the house. Cut a small circle from blue felt. Cut circle into four pieces and glue to the Window. Grass With yarn D and an H hook, make an adjustable ring, ch 1, sc 6 into ring. Pull tail gently to close. Assembly Using a dark green strand of yarn, sew House to Grass. At several spots around the House, weave a strand up the side of the house, securing with small diagonal stitches to look like leaves on a vine. Stitch all the way around the House and Porch, avoiding the Door opening. Cut several ovals from white felt and glue to the top of the House. Remove any wire or clip from the bottom of the butterfly, if necessary. Glue the butterfly to the top of the House with strong craft glue.
