Margot Sinclair is a California-born, Michigan-raised, NYC-based contemporary artist. Her practice involves mixed media across oil, acrylic, graphite, and thread. Through this combination of mediums, Margot is able to create palpable texture in each of her works — while neutral in palette, they are still able to add depth and dimension to a space. This work is from Margot's latest body of work titled the Chess Series — each painting's title is a different chess opening. The first few moves dictate the style of a chess game (how open or closed, tactical or sharp, etc), which is what influenced the initial composition and the subsequent balance of each piece. The title served as conceptual inspiration, but the aesthetic manifestation is up for interpretation to each unique viewer. Signed on verso.
