This ice cream sundae cake is inspired by Kevin McAllister's meal in Home Alone. It's all part of how to throw a Home Alone party for the holidays.
Wilson turned seven last week and wanted to celebrate Kevin McCallister style! We love Home Alone around here, so this theme was easy for all of us to get excited about! 🙂 The party itself was at a nearby trampoline park, so overall, it was pretty simple, but we did have fun with t-shirts, favors, pizza, and cake! It all started with an invitation to come bounce! I ordered the five of us some tees that were fitting! I also found a Kevin McCallister hat for Wilson!! It was a smidge pricey, but since that hat is so cute, Wilson can actually wear it when it’s cold outside! So I felt ok paying for it! hah! And the shirt I ordered for Lily Ryan didn’t make it in time, so I had to make hers for the party. Her ordered one did come in a few days late, so she’ll just have to wear it to school! 😉 Here are our shirts + several others I really liked! Turn on your JavaScript to view content The next detail was my favorite, I think! Little Nero’s Pizza boxes! Since Little Nero’s isn’t a real thing (I googled it– it was made up for the movie, based off of Little Caesar’s!), I had some posters printed at Office Depot of the Little Nero’s logo, which I’ll put at the very bottom of this post if you want to save that image and send it to Office Depot as well! hah! I had eight 16″ x 20″ posters printed, then cut each poster down to a tad under 14″ x 14″ using the paper cutter at Office Depot. Since Papa John’s has white boxes, we ordered from there. I then pasted our Little Nero’s posters onto the Papa John’s boxes and it was perfect! Papa John’s large pizza boxes are 14″ x 14″ in case that’s helpful for anyone else! 😉 After a little cake design debacle with a local bakery, I ended up making a cookie cake last minute so there was a cake there that I was ok with the look of! haha We still brought the other cake to the party and people ate it, but it was ROUGH. Pic at the end of the post… haha! Two cakes are better than one! This is my favorite cookie cake recipe, so it’s the one I used!! HIGHLY recommend! I may have had a little too much fun with the favors, and Wilson thought they were super weird (ha!) so I wound up putting them in bags with candy and Wilson then approved! But I printed out several copies of Kevin’s Mac and cheese prayer and glued them to the Mac and cheese boxes! Because who doesn’t love some good ol Kraft macaroni and cheese?! I’ve already had a couple of people ask me for the file of this prayer, so it’s in my Etsy shop! 🙂 Ok, I think that about covers the party! I hope that gives any of you who are here in search of some party ideas a little to go on! 🙂 HAPPY SEVENTH BIRTHDAY to my sweet boy! Wilson is easy to celebrate and is so funny I can barely stand it!! He is definitely our son because he will bust out a movie quote at the drop of a hat (Home Alone is his fave, of course) and catch us so off guard! He particularly loves busting out Marv’s “Wow, what a hole” line from Home Alone 2 and it’s always SO perfect!! 🙂 Rarely are we talking about an actual hole, which just makes it even better 🙂 Thank you so much for stopping in today!! And if you’re waiting for the bad cake pic and the Little Nero’s image, here you go! . . . . . Here is the cake from a local bakery… I ordered ONE image of the battle plan… Not FOUR! I won’t go into any more detail about my issues with this cake, but it was not at all what I ordered! Thankfully they gave me half price 😉 And here is the Little Nero’s Pizza image I used to print our posters-turned-pizza box labels! Leave it to Kate McCallister to remind us what this season is all about! Who doesn't love this newly classic Christmas movie? Home Alone was a Thanksgiving night tradition in our house growing up and it's still a favorite today. Fun fact!: This typographic print is a cheeky nod to the exhibition posters originally designed by John Melin for Andy Warhol's European solo show in 1968 at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm. I love the nostalgia of the quote, and of the posters, and wanted to pay homage to them both.
