Diary of Anne Frank | Paperclips | Holocaust Memorial | Holocaust Project | Anne Frank Project This project is used after reading the Diary of Anne Frank play as a class and viewing the documentary "Paper Clips". It asks students to be creative and design a Holocaust memorial for their town that not only remembers those lost in the Holocaust, but the members of the Secret Annex as well. Students are asked to be explicit in their designs, including such things as materials needed, time of completion, and estimated cost. The project has students use critical thinking skills to compare and contrast their design to the memorial designed by the middle school students in "Paper Clips". After students design their memorial and complete their project, they "pitch" their idea to the class as if they were presenting to a panel selecting the actual memorial. Students vote for the best memorial ideas from their peers' designs. I am routinely impressed with the thought, creativity, and empathy students show with their finished projects! You'll receive: A complete lesson plan with rationale and instructions and student handouts for replication. ***************************************************************************** Don't miss these other products designed for teaching English in the Middle School classroom!
