My son thinks our nation's presidential legacy is fascinating. And since President's Day is this month, I cooked up a fun game to help us celebrate. If you've played Sequence for Kids, you'll recognize the rules. The game board and cards feature 19 of the most "famous" presidents in U.S. history. Each card features: A star with a number; that number indicates where in the lineage of presidents he served (i.e. Richard Nixon's card says 37, because he was our nation's 37th president). The president's political party affiliation. A quick fact about their life and/or their presidency. Here's What You Need The game board (download a 4-page PDF here, print, and tape together) Game cards (download a 6-page PDF here, print on cardstock, and cut apart) Game pieces that are a different color for each player (we use poker chips) The Objective The first player to get four of their own game pieces on the game board in a row (horizontally or vertically) wins. How to Play Each player is dealt three cards and looks at their hand. The remaining card deck is the draw pile. Players can place a game piece on any president they have a card for in their hand. One game piece is placed on the board per turn. The card played is placed in a discard pile and the player draws a new card. Players should always have three cards in their hand. Special Cards There are two kinds of special cards in the deck: one where the player can place a game piece on ANY open space and another where the player can remove an opponent's game piece from anywhere. The player discards the special card, and in the case of the "remove an opponent's game piece," they cannot place their own game piece in its place until their next turn. Star Spaces The four corners of the game board are free spaces. A player can use one of these spaces as one of their four-in-a-row. These are the only four spaces on the board that more than one player can place a game piece on. Personal note: I tried my best to make sure there were no errors (it was a lot of facts to keep straight). If you spot one, please let me know! Looking for a fun book to pair with this activity? I've got a great one. We LOVE Judith St. George's book So You Want to Be President?. It's such a clever way to learn about the country's past presidents. My son took this to school when it was his week to share his favorite book with the class. CREDIT: This activity would not have been possible without the amazing free clipart of the presidents, available at WPClipart.

I say Presidents' Day, you say Presidents Day...Let's call the whole thing off. Ok, we're not singing about tomatoes, but I'm not completely sure what the correct punctuation for this holiday is. I Googled it, and it's still not clear. I think Presidents' Day looks right. Once you get a look at all the goodies I created for you, I don't think you'll mind how I chose to punctuate. I put together a whole days worth of activities for this holiday. I've got Reading, Writing, Math, and Social Studies covered for you. I really appreciate all the kind words you guys have been sending my way and REALLY appreciate you following my blog. It's just like when you have students that are always saying thank you, it makes you want to do that much more for them. I hope you enjoy all the activities. You can click on any of the pictures or HERE to grab a complete and FREE copy of the entire unit. If you like what you see I would love it if you followed me, liked my fan page, and/or left me a comment. Either way, I wish you luck as you continue to create magic in your classroom! Social Studies Have students research Abraham Lincoln. Using the information they gather, have them make a biopoem. Once they have created the poem, they can type it into Tagxedo. Have them choose the Abraham Lincoln shape and print. It is so cool. If you don't know about Tagxedo, check out my post from last week, HERE. Writing Click HERE or on the book cover to get a free online video version of the book, So You Want to Be President. You will have to watch a commercial, but you can download using Zamzar. If you download, it will eliminate the commercial for you and you can save it to your flashdrive. Let me know if you need help with this. After reading the book, let students write a descriptive paragraph about what they would do if they were president. Math Let students stack pennies and find the mean, median, mode, and range. Your students will LOVE this! Reading Let students read the passage and complete the graphic organizer. Liz from Liz's Lesson created a great French and Spanish Presidents' Day packet. Click HERE or the picture to get this foreign language freebie. For another great activity, check out Diary of The Not So Wimpy Teacher's freebie.

Hello everyone! I am back to write about my recently uploaded February STEAM Activities resource. The STEAM Activities have been a HUGE hit in my classroom, so I cannot wait to continue them for the rest of the year!! The Febraury STEAM Activities set also comes with five activities. I again tried to incorporate every letter of STEAM's acronym (science, technology, engineering, art and math) throughout the month's activities. Click here to find the link to the product. The first activity in my February STEAM pack is Groundhog's Galore In this activity, students will use a 12x18 piece of paper (pre-cut), a groundhog template picture, tape and a flashlight to build the Groundhog. They will build the burrow and be able to create the Groundhog coming in and out of his den. Once everyone in the class has built their creations, the teacher may turn off the lights and students can practice and learn more about shadows. Included in this is two informational sheets to build on student knowledge: There is a graphic organizer included to help students plan and improve their creations! The next activity in my February STEAM pack is Love Bugs Students will build love bugs out of three pipe cleaners, red and white beads, and Googly eyes. If teachers are interested in saving their beads and pipe cleaners, they can use smaller pipe cleaners and less beads. Students can decide if they want to keep the love bug for themselves or give it to someone they love. If they choose to give it to someone else, they can include the following gift tag. The third activity in my February STEAM Pack is White House Construction. To celebrate President's Day, students will build the white house using paper, a cereal box, templates of the US flag and tape! They will have to make sure that their white house can stand tall and hold the president! Included to build student knowledge is an informational page about President's Day and a graphic organizer to help plan for their work. Next in the February STEAM Activities is Tooth Fairy Flight During this activity, students will learn how to build a paper airplane! To celebrate Dental Awareness Month, they will follow the given directions page to build their airplane and attach the tooth fairy. Once the airplanes are created students can measure the distances their airplanes go using rulers or any non-standard forms of measurement that you choose! Included is a "Tell Me About Teeth" informational page to learn about the importance of cleaning your teeth! The final activity in the Finally STEAM Activities is the Google Classroom and Lego lesson. Students will start on Google classroom. They will move the colored Lego pieces from the left side of the screen to the puzzle on the right side of the screen. This will help them build Valentine's Day images: a heart, a Hershey's Kiss, a rose and a mailbox! While the students are completing the Google Classroom lesson, they can color the graphic organizer to then visualize what each winter item should look like. Finally, they can use the graphic organizer to build with real Legos! The Google and graphic organizer are a great way for students to plan what to build! Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope these February STEAM Activities make Science class extra fun for you and your students! Enjoy! February STEAM Activities
