A Spooky Halloween Pop-Up Card This Halloween pop-up card will fold flat to fit into a 7in. x 7 in. envelope. The spooky scene depicts a haunted mansion with five howling ghosts, an orange cat guarding the mansion gates and a witch on a broomstick flying across the silhouette of a full moon. The witch is suspended in midair because it is attached to the haunted house's chimney via an accordion fold piece of cardstock. I was intrigued by the pop-up mechanism in Hallmark cards and this design is my interpretation of their mechanism. Two trapezoidal prisms are glued together to form the pop-up. The pumpkins on each side of the pop-up serve as a locking mechanism to hold the card in place. Here is the PDF. I used 65lb. cardstock. There is a little leaning in the tree (the weight of the attached moon is causing this) with 65lb. cardstock but I think it looks ok. If it bothers you, you could probably use 110lb. cardstock for a more upright stance but then the slits in the base might need to be increased slightly to accommodate the 110 lb. cardstock. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Hzd2r1u9doLMx1uOoqgnAPBCjQD90siQ/view?usp=sharing Here is the .Studio file. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RXT1ggn4oth-Me4YX6zxaPBWZZxNE2nB/view?usp=sharing Here is the SVG. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YGAbVLHbLJ-vcsF6PTG2bVjATxUZTNYv/view?usp=sharing Crease all of the tabs inward on the trapezoidal prism piece with the side tabs. Insert the four tabs of the mansion into the slots and apply glue at the bottom of the tabs as shown above. Close the piece slightly and adhere the mansion tab to the bottom of the newly form prism. Repeat the inserting and glueing process for the tree. Apply glue to the tab as shown above. Fold down the piece and apply pressure to the area where the glue was placed to adhere the glue. The witch is attached with an accordion fold. Take the rectangular piece and fold into an accordion. Glue this piece to the top of the chimney. You can see in the photo above that the last fold is downward. Glue the witch to the accordion. Profile view of the witch attached to the chimney. Glue on the ghosts to the mansion and the moon to the back of the tree. Set this piece aside. Crease all of the tabs inward on the trapezoidal prism piece without the side tabs. Place the template for the BOO! on the side of the prism. Glue the BOO! onto the side. Insert the tabs for the pumpkins and glue down the tabs as before. Repeat for the cat and gate pieces. Apply glue to the tab as shown above. Fold down the piece and apply pressure to the area where the glue was placed to adhere the glue as before. Attach the two prism pieces together by placing them on top of one another. Fold the tab inward and apply glue to the two side tabs. Adhere the tabs. Lift up the bottom edge of the BOO! piece and apply glue as shown. There is at least three rows of glue going up into the piece. Adhere the glue. Glue on the four orange pumpkins each side of the piece. The pop-up card fold flat. To open the card, push the bottom of the card upward while aligning the side edges to slide over the pumpkins.

Step 5: You should have 4 pieces in all including the owl-shaped card. Step 6: Understand the fold carefully. Fold your main owl pop-up piece in half.

Sliceform Snow Globe with an Ice Skating Scene This snow globe scene of a family ice skating reminds me of a Currier and Ives lithograph print. I love the movement that is present. I can just imagine a family ice skating and their large dog trying to slide around the ice with them. What a perfect scene to look at in this holiday season. Here is the PDF. I used 65 lb. cardstock. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Lh2_gvz18ECzn23iB6jPjeRomhK1q04l/view?usp=sharing Here is the .Studio file. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bUIUO_ruMdrpP-m-FrK2YZvFfWB2EYNE/view?usp=sharing Layout the scene in this order Slide the corresponding sized circle onto this slice. First the top slits and then on the bottom slits. Do not be afraid to bend the paper a little but be gentle. (I used a little box to take the above photo. You don't need one.) Slide the next scene onto the center slice. Make sure that the outer edge of the circles are aligned. Continuing adding all of the scenery slices onto the center slice. Notice that the paper is wavy. No worries. This is normal. This is what the scenery looks like when folded flat. I forgot to tell you. This slice form snow globe scene folds flat! Add the next largest slice. Slide first the top slits and then the bottom slits. You will be gently bending the slice so that you can slide the slits together. Continuing adding the slices until all of them have been added. Lay the snow globe flat and wiggle the paper around so that everything goes into alignment. Set this aside. Make the base holder. Apply the snowflakes to both sides of the base. Each base slice has four snowflakes that I glued on using a glue stick. Slide the center pieces together. Add all of the corresponding slices to this center piece. Complete the base by adding the slices on the opposite side. This base holder can lie flat. Cut two pieces of thread about 12 inches each and insert them into the two holes as shown above. This is how you will attach the snow globe to the base. The base has two different types of slices. Make sure that you tie the knot on the slice that is solid at the top. (The slice in the opposite direction is not solid at the top.) Tie a knot on the other side of the base. Glue the tabs as shown. One on either side of the center slice. Apply glue to the side that will face the center slice when attached. Adhere the snow globe to the blue base holder. Glue the snow globe so that the strings of the base will not show when you are looking at the scene. Here the base and the globe are folded flat. Make sure that you can do this so that everything is aligned. Apply glue to the base with a glue stick as shown. I used a glue stick because you will need to move the piece around to align it. You do not want to use a quick drying glue. (I did use a little glue after everything was aligned to glue down the scalloped white edges to the blue base.) Open and close the base to find the correct point of alignment so that the base lies flat. Completed Sliceform Snow Globe I have created an accompanying card for this snow globe and here is the blog posting. https://papercraftetc.blogspot.com/2019/12/an-ice-skating-scene-card.html

A Valentine Diorama would make a beautiful gift to give to your sweetheart with its romantic scenery inside. A sea captain is giving his sweetheart some flowers before he leaves for foreign shores. They are standing on one of two bridges in town with two swans swimming under the bridge. His schooner can be seen in the background waiting for him to sail the seas. The scenery is identical to the previous posting. Photo for size comparison. https://papercraftetc.blogspot.com/2021/01/a-valentine-slice-form-sphere-that.html This Diorama is put together with eight tabs which slide into the side of the slices. A Side View I used Neenah brand 65 lb Champagne Pearl metallic cardstock from Office Depot, a sheet of American Craft paper from a paper pad named Lucky Us from Tuesday Morning. I recommend using a new blade and overcut to cut out this design as the intricate pieces might not cut out correctly. I do not recommend a brand new mat because the reeds by the swan will stick to the mat (I had to glue them on after cutting). Here is the PDF. https://drive.google.com/file/d/150Dd2eS_ewEzVHAKuWCqOb8O7I2cRoKt/view?usp=sharing Here is the .Studio file. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Kvi4X7PkYw9Qvy5Q9CKMd9bdpuntOa7p/view?usp=sharing Here is the SVG. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FWL2reyWtHydvZ2CBNwQRySZcuaVoI9p/view?usp=sharing Pretty paper is glued on top of the first slice and a circular mat is glued on top of the pretty paper. Two tabs are glued together to make a sturdy tab that will not warp when inserted into the slices. The eight tabs are then slid into the sides of the diorama. Happy Valentine's Day!
----------------- This is a pre-scheduled post.----------------------- Woohoo! I'm on vacation! The twins are turning 9 and we are celebrating by going on a Disney cruise! I will be away for a week but I am not going to leave my blog alone. I have pre-scheduled several posts that will feature some of the new LD sets for Valentine's day AND two of my friends are coming to visit and share their projects. I have seen Gale and Joy's work and I am telling you, they are really really cool! Stick around and you will see why I say that when you see Gale's project on Tuesday and Joy's on Thursday. On Wednesday, I will show you how LD's new Conversations Projects set look like when they are cut and assembled, and on Friday, I will share a card that I've made with yet another new LD set. Lots of projects are scheduled for this week so check back everyday! :-) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Have you seen LD's new Love Bites Collection? It's alligator-themed and includes this super cool 3D project set: This set includes 5 unique projects: a cupcake wrapper, a pillow box, a note card, a mailbox, AND a purse! I LOVE the style of the new LD cupcake wrappers! The idea is similar to the wrappers in the Bugaboo and Rootin Tootin Cowboy Party sets- each wrapper in the Love Bites Projects set takes the form of an alligator! I think that they are so much more interesting and fun than the standard wrappers. And check out the pillow box alligator! Is that the coolest box or what?! I think those boys in my kids' classes would love this. Too bad none of them getting this one....I'm saving it for me! File no. 3 is a note card. If you have this set and are attempting to put this card together, make sure that the heart covers the bitten card inside. When the recipient opens her card, she'll notice that the gator has taken a bite of it! If you know any boys who are tired of the same old Valentine pink-with-hearts-all-over mailboxes, you must make them these gator ones! I thought that the alligator mailbox was easier to assemble than the pillow box but it looks just as cool. If you have ever made one of LD purses, you will find it easy to put together the last file in this set, the alligator purse. If you have never played with an LD purse, click here to download one and then come back and click HERE to get your alligator purse. So that's all 5 projects in the Love Bites Projects set. Don't they look super cool? If you have not gotten yours, CLICK HERE to get them now. Don't forget to use the coupon InLove to take 20% of a $20 or more purchase!
