Ideas for May Week 3 LDS Primary Sharing Time, 2017 Sharing Time Outline Theme: Choose the Right May 2017 Sharing Time Topic: I Choose the Right When I Am Baptized and Confirmed a Member of the Church May 2017 Scripture: “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38). May 2017 Song: “When I Am Baptized” (CS, 103) May Week 3 Topic: The Holy Ghost can help me. Preparation: Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine. The most important this is to love those you teach and to teach them by the Spirit!! Focus on building their testimonies and helping them come unto Christ! FYI... In my experience when you start asking the children to share their experiences with the Holy Ghost the spirit is felt and many will want to share their experiences. This may take up a lot of time. It might be wise to make arrangements with the chorister that singing time might be shorter this day. But it might not, it's just dependent on how many children share. :) Sharing Time Instruction: Begin Sharing Time with a guess who activity. Explain to the primary children that you are going to give them some clues and they have to guess what you are describing. Clue 1: Is a member of the God Head Clue 2: Main Role is to Testify of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ Clue 3: Does not have a body of flesh and bones Clue 4: Is there to help us Clue 5: We receive him as our constant companion when we are confirmed Hopefully, they have guessed the Holy Ghost. Show the primary children the Month's theme poster and invite them to repeat, "The Holy Ghost can help me." Explain that today we are going to learn about the ways the Holy Ghost can help us. Ask the primary children that if they were going to go on a trip to somewhere that they had never been before, would they want someone there to help them? Explain that Heavenly Father knew that He was going to be sending us somewhere that we had never been before. Somewhere that was going to be different and at times difficult. He wanted to give us something to help us. So, He has given us the Holy Ghost. Explain to the primary children that everyone can have the influence of the Holy Ghost in their lives. Those who are baptized receive him as their constant companion. But for the Holy Ghost to be with us and speak to us we need to be living a life where we can be listening. We do this as we follow our Savior and keep his commandments. Ask the primary children to open their hearts and minds and let the Holy Ghost teach them today. So, how can the Holy Ghost help us??? Do the following activity to teach about this principle: Place the word strips of the Holy Ghost on the floor, upside down. Invite a primary child to come up and toss a bean bag onto one of the word strips. Have them pick up the paper and invite them to read what it says. (for those who can't read, you can help them read it) Then show the primary children the picture or object that goes with that word strip and discuss how the Holy Ghost can help them. (See the topics, pictures and discussion ideas below) Invite them to share their testimonies and experiences. Continue with each of the word strips. Inviting another child to toss the bean bag onto another word strip and so on. Close by singing the Holy Ghost Song and share your testimony on how the Holy Ghost has helped you and can help them in this life. How the Holy Ghost can Help us: The Holy Ghost can Comfort Us: Show a picture of sad child being comforted. Discussion: Explain that when we are sad or scared the Holy Ghost can comfort us. We can feel peace, hope and warmth as the Holy Ghost is there. (Invite the children to share their experiences of when the Holy Ghost has comforted them) The Holy Ghost can Teach Us: Show the Primary children the Scriptures. Discussion: Explain that the Holy Ghost can teach us the truth of all things. Invite the primary children to think of a time when they have been reading the scriptures or listening to a primary song or a primary lesson and they have felt a warm, happy, peaceful feeling. Explain that that is the Holy Ghost teaching them. (Invite the children to share their experiences of when the Holy Ghost has taught them) The Holy Ghost can Testify of Christ: Show the Primary children a picture of the Savior. Discussion: Explain that as part of the Godhead, the Holy Ghost's role is to testify of Jesus Christ. Invite the primary children to look at the picture of the Savior. Have them think about all that the Savior has done for them. Are they filled with love towards the Savior and peace and warmth as the think of Him. This is the Holy Ghost, testifying of Christ. (Invite the children to share their experiences of when the Holy Ghost has testified of Christ to them) The Holy Ghost can Warn Us: Show the picture of the boy playing video games. Discussion: Explain that the Holy Ghost can warn us. He can warn us of dangers or of wrong choices. Often times these warning comes by an uneasy feeling. He can speak to our mind, warning us of the dangers. (Invite the primary children to share their experiences of how the Holy Ghost has warned them) The Holy Ghost can Guide Us: Show the Primary children the picture of the children walking the path in the dark. Discussion: Explain that in this life there are so many noises and things pulling us in all directions. The Holy Ghost is there to guide us and help us to make the right choices that will keep us on the path, leading back to our Heavenly Father. When we are faced with a choice, the Holy Ghost will help us know what is right. If the choice is right we will have peace and a warm, good feeling, if it is not right we will not have a warm feeling and sometimes we may even have an uneasy feeling. (Invite the primary children to share how the Holy Ghost has guided them) Find the printables for the word strip and the theme poster below. Peter, the simple, self-sufficient fisherman didn’t know just how much his life was about to change when he encountered Jesus on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Like many of us, Peter chose to follow Jesus, but would spend the rest of his life growing in maturity and his love for the Savior. These activities focus on this event and will encourage children to worship and follow Jesus like Peter did.
