The following Brain Break Energizers - ABC... "Energize Me" - Classroom Movement Cards resource is a “high energy, fun and organized” classroom activity that gives your students a chance to move their bodies in a number of ways, while learning to recognize the Upper and Lower Case letters of the Alphabet. ABC…Energize Me does not require any equipment and can be used as a “Brain Break” or as a functional, letter recognition lesson. It can also be utilized in the gym or outside by a classroom or PE teacher if students need to move their bodies in a larger space. You can show the cards and do a whole group activity where all of the students perform the same movement at the same time (while you reinforce letter recognition). You could also set up “station” or “center” areas throughout the room and have your students rotate to each letter card and movement. I have a number of other "Energize Me" products that combine movement with educational concepts that include: 1- ABC... Energize Me 2- 1-2-3... Energize Me 3- Shapes I See... Energize Me 4- Colors I See... Energize Me 5- Animals I See... Energize Me 6- Sports I See... Energize Me I also have also compiled all 6 products and created a bundle that will save you over 25%. It was during my first year teaching that I finally realized what a2 + b2 = c2 really meant. The teacher next to me had his class complete a Pythagorean Theorem activity and decorated the halls with his students' finished work. It was looking at all of those projects that finally drove home to me what the theorem actually meant. It was a cool realization. It was this same teacher who made me realize the value of math word walls and displaying student work.

This is always a popular drawing project for our junior grades in high school because it allows for so much creativity and it's a real challenge! It asks students to create a METAMORPHOSIS drawing that takes one object, and transforms it into another. The final artwork has to be coloured with pencil crayons using value. So it's partially an observational drawing (the first step), and then they draw 3 more drawings showing this object transforming (example - sunglasses into a lily flower). The project is super scaffolded on the handout: ✤they start with sketching and notes in their sketchbooks ✤they start their final drawing ((2 options are given, to allow for maximum creativity, plus students love choice) ✤they mat their final artwork on bristol board The handout includes a STEP-BY-STEP project breakdown, exemplars, and a rubric to make marking easy for you. I think it's also important for students to understand that art is a process. It's a flexible project in that sometimes I do it in pairs, sometimes I make them use pen and ink techniques, etc. It can be changed to suit your class needs. Enjoy!
