It’s that time of year… …when shriveled dandelion bits litter my kitchen, and desk, and float in random cups half-full with water. As an herbalist, I am interested in helping each person find the best way to bring balance into their lives. One of the things that makes herbalism different from conventional medicine is that herbalists seek to treat the person rather than the disease. This means I look for broad patterns of imbalance which may be causing symptoms of dis-ease mentally, emotionally or physically. I then work with each client to develop individualized plans of action to help them achieve balance and optimal wellness. Some common tools I use to help my clients are: 1.) Herbal Remedies in many forms(tea, tincture, salve and many more) that have been individually matched to the clients constitution and situation 2.) Modern Nutritional Science helps me to create unique diet or supplementation plans based on the client’s needs. I prefer to start with nutrition because I find that once we can clear up food allergies and /or feed the body what it needs, many issues are able to resolve. 3.) Lifestyle Changes. Often we can get stuck in patterns that have a negative effect on our wellbeing. I aim to help people identify these patterns and correct through introspection, meditation, mindfulness and other methods that help us connect to the world around us and our part in it. All of these tools help me find the root cause of the issue the client is facing and being to correct it. Often times it is easy to get caught up treating one symptom and call it a day. While this approach does work, often people become disillusioned because the symptoms come back or change into something different all together. This is often because often the symptom is confused for the cause of the imbalance. I aim to help my clients not only uncover the root cause of their symptoms, but to put plans in place that allows them to address them in healthy and sustainable ways. If you want to start bringing more balance into your life, here are some issues I may be able to help with: Anxiety Adrenal Issues Digestive Issues (GERD, SIBO ) Fatigue Allergies Headaches Diabetes Insulin Resistance and pre-diabetes Eczema and other skin issues Weight loss When you decide to make an appointment with me, there are several parts to it. 1.) Intake – Generally 1-2 hours 2.) Wellness Plan- this is the plan that the client I come up with during the initial intake. This can include diet changes, herbal remedies, meditation or other lifestyle changes. 3.) A 45minute to 1 hour follow-up 2-3 weeks after the initial intake. The cost of the initial session is $110 Since herbal medicine is not covered under most insurance, it is important for the client to be aware that in most cases, there are some ongoing costs associated with the wellness plans. These include: 1.) Follow-ups after the initial intake and follow-up (These are $40 for 30 minutes and $70 60 minutes) 2.) Herbs and supplements. If we do decide to try an herbal remedy or dietary supplement, the client will be responsible for the additional cost. I will provide links to the products I recommend. This additional cost can vary from client to client, but most often are somewhere around $20-$65 a month for the duration of the wellness plan. **I will NEVER turn anyone away who struggles to pay for a session. If you have a genuine desire in your heart to better your condition through diet, herbal medicine and lifestyle changes, send me an e-mail to discuss sliding scale or free sessions*** **One final piece of very important information to know about herbalists is that we are NOT doctors. We are not allowed to diagnose any condition or prescribe any medication. My services are never meant to replace that of a medical doctor and I will never suggest you leave your physician’s care or stop taking a medication without first consulting them.** I really look forward to working with each and every one of you!

When I plant my vegetable garden in the spring I always plant marigolds as a kind of sacrificial plant. They are excellent to attract harmful insects away from my veggies. Now that the planting season is over and my vegetables are pretty much done producing I have big beautiful bunches of marigolds. I hate for them to go to waste and there’s no need to let them. Marigolds have been used medicinally for centuries . . . both internally and topically. It’s an easy process to make a soothing salve for your skin to help heal wounds, soothe burns and soften dry, chapped skin. Homemade Marigold Salve Two handfuls of marigold flowers 1 cup oil (such as olive oil) 2 Ounces Bees Wax In addition to the ingredients, you will need a fine material (cheese cloth or a knee-high stocking) to strain the steeped marigolds from the oil and small container(s) with lid(s). Gently wash the marigolds in cold water and then place the marigolds in a small saucepan with the oil. Heat oil on low until flowers begin to wilt. Remove from heat source and cover. Allow to steep in the oil for 12 hours or so. Reheat the marigold oil mixture over low heat. While the oil is warming, place cheese cloth over a funnel (I use stocking stretched over a canning funnel) and set over a bowl or jar. Once the oil is warm, strain through your material the gather it up and squeeze as much of the oil out as you can. Discard flowers. Slowly melt wax over a double boiler. The water should be at a simmer, not a boil, to make sure the wax doesn’t get too hot. If it gets too hot it will destroy the healing properties extracted from the marigolds. The wax used to coat cheese is made from beeswax. Save this wax and use it for preparations such as this. Just make sure to remove any cheese residue to avoid any possible contamination. When the wax has melted, add the marigold oil slowly, mixing continuously. Pour the mixture into clean containers, cover tightly and store in a cool location.
