Dann folgt eine vorbereitende Situation aus dem HR-Alltag zur besseren Einordnung der folgenden Theorie für die Lernenden. Es grenzt der Theorieteil mit Beispielen, Hinweisen und Merksätzen an. Darauf folgen Repetitionsaufgaben zur Klärung des aktuellen Wissensstandes. Die Checklisten finden Sie im Buch aber auch als Downloadmaterial auf unserer KLV-Homepage. This year I decided to weave some designs to make my own Christmas cards. Drawdown without tabby This design is an overshot pattern. This drawdown does not show the tabby. Christmas tree design Here is the drawn down with tabby inserted. Drawdown with tabby This pattern uses 8 shafts. Use a floating selvedge to catch in the threads at the side. Threads I used 2/20 cotton for the background and tabby The green is three strands of embroidery cotton and the yellow is some gold yarn I found in my sewing box. On the drawdown, the blue indicates the white tabby. If I had used white on the drawdown, it would have been difficult to see the pattern. On the loom. Here is the weaving on the loom. I also wove some snowflakes in silver. Snowflake design Here is the drawdown with the tabby inserted. Drawdown with the tabby weft The drawdown shows the snowflake in yellow and the tabby and background in blue. snowflake on the loom I wove each design in groups of two. The plain weave section before and after enabled a hem to be sewn to keep the weaving from unravelling. I left space of unwoven warp in between each piece. Off the loom, the strip of weaving showed reed marks. These did become less after a day or two but I decided to wash some of the pieces. The loom marks disappeared. I hemmed each piece of weaving at the top and bottom. Christmas Cards Here are 6 of the Christmas cards on display. I cut two slits into the front of the card and threaded the weaving through top and bottom. For the inside of the card I printed messages on plain white paper. Yes, they did take a long time to plan and weave. Decorations for the Christmas Tree If you want a quicker project for Christmas, what about weaving some Christmas decorations for your tree. My friend Nancy in the States sent me some lovely woven hangings for my tree. Christmas tree decoration Here is one of them. It is just under 4 inches in length and sparkles in the Christmas lights. Thank you Nancy for a lovely present. There was a lovely article in the Guardian recently about Advent Calendars. 'In simpler times, the thrill of Advent calendars involved finding a picture of a Christmas tree or holly sprig hidden behind the cardboard door. But then the tradition was hijacked by upmarket retailers, and you came to expect a craft gin miniature, artisan cheese or mindfulness tips. This year, though, traditionalists are fighting back.' The article was about crafting your own calendar. A kit is available but it would be so easy to make your own; for example, a hanging mobile of little bags each with a number and containing simple things. It does not have to be expensive or complicated. It is so easy to click and buy but so much more satisfying to make and give. with very best wishes to everyone for this festive time. Another Postscript This year I taught two workshops at the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford about Sami band weaving. Sharon attended one of the workshops and sent me this lovely photograph of bands she has woven. Coffee bags made by Sharon with handwoven ties. She makes coffee bags out of leather and wove the beautiful straps to tie the top. She tells me that she really enjoyed the workshop. The look of these wonderful woven bands shows that she has learned all the skills needed. They are so colourful. Thank you Sharon for letting me share this photograph. Hiermit liegt der erste Band einer Auswahl von Briefen Max Webers auf der Grundlage der Max Weber-Gesamtausgabe vor. Dieser erste Band Reisebriefe enthält mehr als siebzig Briefe und Karten, die Max Weber auf seinen zahlreichen Reisen innerhalb Europas und in Nordamerika geschrieben hat. Der Band setzt mit Webers Jugendbriefen ein, denn er war früh eingeübt in die Kulturpraxis des Bürgertums, Anderen von seinen Reiseerfahrungen ausführlich und anschaulich Mitteilung zu machen.Schon von den Reisen mit Vater und Brüdern berichtete der junge Max lebhaft seiner Mutter. Über die ausgedehnten, mit Marianne Weber unternommenen Reisen nach Schottland und Irland 1895, Frankreich und Spanien 1897 und die berühmte Reise quer durch die Vereinigten Staaten 1904 erhielt Helene Weber eingehende Berichte. Es sind kulturhistorische Momentaufnahmen mit dem Blick auf Clans und Sozialstrukturen in Schottland und Irland, auf den Erzabbau im Baskenland, den "Brutstätten des Capitalismus", oder die amerikanischen Sekten. Wir können Max Weber, stets mit Manuskripten und Lektüre unterwegs, bei seinem Besuch des Rijksmuseums in Amsterdam und in den mediterranen Süden begleiten. Der Band endet 1914 mit der letzten Reise in den Süden, wenige Monate vor Ausbruch des 1. Weltkriegs.Eingeleitet wird die Auswahl der Reisebriefe durch einen Essay von Hinnerk Bruhns (Paris) ein biografisches Personenregister erschließt die Briefe, die gegenüber der zugrundeliegenden Max Weber-Gesamtausgabe vereinfacht zum Abdruck gelangen. Die Briefauswahl wird durch einen weiteren Band Gelehrtenbriefe fortgeführt.

Artist Helene Minelli (1918-2010) was a native of Sonoma Valley, born on a ranch in 1918, and the Valley inspired her lifelong creative works. Her mediums were oil, acrylic, and especially watercolor. She dedicated an impressive amount of service to the local art community, including: President of the Sonoma Valley Art Center and Gallery, later known as Valley of the Moon Art Association; founder of the North Coast Viticulture Art Exhibit and Sales; Trustee on the Board of Society of Western Artists; and Judge for the Society of Western Artists, San Francisco. less
The first book that I bought when I started to learn to weave was A Handweavers Pattern Book by Marguerite P Davison. It was first published in 1944. It is a treasure - lovely to browse and full of traditional patterns with wonderful names such as Gothic Cross, Queen's Delight, Batchelor's Fancy, Wall of Troy, and Saterglantan. The last name felt very exotic and it was many years before I discovered that Saterglantan is a weaving college in Sweden. I decided to weave one of the patterns - Cat track and Snail trail which I saw in an Interweave Press booklet. In Marguerite Davison's book it is known as Wandering Vine. This is a design that can be played with and new combinations discovered. Another variation for cat track and snail trail. Here is another version. The cat track is more distinct and the snail trail is narrower. Remember that there needs to be a plain weave tabby in between the pattern weft. A variation of the pattern I decided to adapt the pattern to make four shorter cat tracks surrounded by the 'snail trail'. Perhaps it should be christened kitten track and snail trail. weave chart for cat track and snail trail The hand towel warp is 16/2 cotton and the weft is 16/2 cotton and the pattern weft is 16/2 linen doubled. The sett is 24 epi for the 16/2 cotton stripes. The ppi is approx. 40 because of the tabby overshot. The warp is in stripes 40 ends in white and 40 ends in colour. I used five stripes of white alternating with six stripes of green. Here is the weave chart with the tabby weft included. It does seem a little more complex but it is easy to weave. Weave draft with tabby weft highlighted in blue. The draft may seem a bit confusing but it is easy to get into the swing of using two shuttles. One shuttle has the plain weave weft of 16/2 cotton. The other shuttle has a doubled 16/2 linen yarn. Adapted cat track and snail trail. The handtowel is very sturdy and absorbent. On the loom, the cloth will seem very stiff and rather hard. Do not worry. Once it is washed it becomes soft. This cloth is very absorbent. I decided weave another version using blue and white stripes. Weaving on the loom Of course, the design can be varied by using a blue or white tabby yarn and a blue or white linen pattern yarn. Once threaded the pattern can be woven with either two small footprints or four smaller ones. I made a long warp for four towels. This warp had been lying around for some time so I used it for the online workshop with the Online Guild for Weavers, Spinners and Dyers for January 2017. the first workshop of the year is always UFO (Unfinished Objects) This is a chance to look through your projects half finished or as in my case not even started and make a good effort to complete them. I really like this workshop and each year I have managed to find the extra effort to complete long abandoned projects. It is such a good way to start the year. Even owning up to what you would like to do is an added incentive to really achieve your goal. I am so pleased that I finished this before the end of January. i really found it difficult to get up the enthusiasm needed but once started and with encouragement form other Guild members, I was away. In between each towel I used a few picks of yellow cottolin. This is where I cut the long fabric after weaving. At the beginning and end of each towel, I wove 10 - 12 picks using 16/2 cotton in plain weave. This is to make the hem less bulky. The white cotton is folded underneath and will not show when the handtowel is hemmed. Here you can see the difference when using a blue linen pattern yarn with either a white tabby weft of a blue tabby weft. For the pattern yarn of a doubled 16/2 linen I use my large shuttle which can take two spools of yarn. A two spool boat shuttle. Whenever I need to use a double yarn, I always use this shuttle. I have tried winding two threads together but I find that there is always some slack in one yarn. Once the fabric is off the loom, cut it into the towel lengths. I iron the top and bottom of each towel to press the material for the hem. I tack the hems and add the hanging tags and press again. Then I sew the hems using a zig zag stitch. The towels are washed in a normal machine wash. Hanging tag. I wove a hanging tag for the towels. There are 35 warp ends in two colours. i used 16/2 cotton doubled for the warp ends. The weft is blue cottolin. I like the effect of the dotted pattern and the horizontal stripe in the centre. Here are two finished towels. Two handtowels one with a two footprint cat track and the other with a smaller four footprint track. Measurements of the two towels before and after washing. Two track pattern Width before washing: 45 cm After washing: 41.5 cm Length before washing: 64 cm After washing: 61.5 Four track pattern Width before washing: 45 cm After washing: 41.5 cm Length before washing: 64.5 cm After washing: 62 cm The towels look really lovely and are very absorbent.
