Cool Mom Eats is the lifesaving resource for parents who cook, who eat, who feed kids, or who don't have enough time in the day. Know anyone like that?
Not so long ago, I posted a Meatloaf Sandwich that stemmed from this Meatloaf recipe. Well this update on that recipe has been hanging out in my computer since last summer. I don’t know why I haven’t posted it sooner- because it was certainly delicious! I think that I just sort of choose my posts …

Are you all familiar with romanesco? I believe it is pretty much a mix of cauliflower and broccoli- but I have to admit that I love it because it is SO gorgeous. Or weird. Or both. My local grocery store carries it most of the year (met Market if you are Seattleites looking for …

I knew I had to include this endive-avocado salad as part of a Mother’s Day brunch, as it is my own mother’s favorite salad (hi, Mom!). I tell people often — on my blog, in my book — that I have a long and complicated relationship with salad. My mother insisted on it every single night (no matter what) growing up. That meant that ages 4 to 12 I came up with many, many creative ways to dispose of it that did not include consumption.

Weeks ago, I asked how many of you go out versus stay in on Valentines Day. Last year was the first year that we went out since we were dating, and I don’t suspect a re-do any time soon. The reality is that it is really hard to find a babysitter on Valentines Day and …
My older sister Julie taught me all about risotto in the mid-90s.

This is what my weekend looked like: Friday the girls had no school- so we started it early. Pia spent all day in the kitchen with me. We went a little crazy with the pumpkin. We had friends to dinner Friday night and I made Roast chickens stuffed with rice and chantrelle mushrooms. I didn’t …
NEW VIDEO!! One of my favorite “Salad for dinner” type of situations here! Just back from a long week in New York where it was basically like being in Seattle with horrendous rain storms and blustery winds! And then we can back to a hail storm. Can someone please send me to the sun!? Also, …
I just started cooking in my kitchen again for the first time in 5 weeks, and I am so happy to be back at it. Only, the thing is, things are heating up around here! I mean the 70’s is hot for Seattle you guys!! And I know some of you guys are in sweltering …
I know it’s only Tuesday, but I had to make sure that you had plenty of time to be inspired before Thirsty Thursday hits, right? So It comes in the form of one of my favorite cocktails of allllll time and a new video to get you in the mood! It’s summer and it is …
I have a busy couple of weeks full of exciting stuff coming up on me (um, catch me tomorrow on New Day Northwest for Halloween Fun!!) and I am seriously looking into how to make things easier on me while still not feeling like I am cheating my family. I am obsessed with things like …
Yesterday I posted a recipe for “The Best Gluten Free” Pizza Crust. (It seriously is really freaking good!) To make things easier for our allergic to everything daughter, I’m cooking Gluten-free in the house the majority of the time. It has not been a hardship, but it has taken some adjustments and some sneaking around …
Are you guys all hiding out indoors in the frigid weather? We are pretty much ready for Spring here in Seattle with sunny days in the high 40’s (sorry guys) and the tips of my crocus surfacing and the buds popping on my peony trees. But the nights are still really, really cold. Well, at …
Brussels Sprouts. Please don’t groan. I know that they aren’t everyone’s favorite, but I may have found a way to get you eating your greens even if they don’t normally float your boat!
Back in Seattle today, overly sunned and very relaxed and ready to sink back into everyday life again. Well, almost. I have to celebrate #ThirstyThursday with at least a nod to the last few days of technical Spring Break (which is of course for students and teachers only- but I am being a hanger-onner this …
These tacos are pretty much the best thing you have ever had. And that is what made them so fitting for this special occasion. Myself and many food friends are busy celebrating our lovely friend Jessica’s Baby Shower today. Only we live all over the place, so it is really like a virtual baby shower. …
So, so , so , so good. We had spicy tacos Wednesday night (coming your way next week) and this was the most wonderful compliment to the spicy food. Its sweet, tart and refreshing- you will love it! Limeade is something that I love. My mom is obsessed and always has been and she …

Ok ladies and gentlemen. I am really trying here. Like this is a healthy streak for me and I am trying to see it through, if even just for the week.
Ok. This dish is serious. It’s rich. Really rich. But my goodness is it delicious.
I had such a great time in New York this last week- tons of great meetings, a really fun event at Better Homes and Gardens, and of course lots of great food and fashion week people watching- not to mention it was in the 80’s every day. But by Friday morning I was ready to …

Happy Monday! Anyone else have a few too many snacks yesterday while watching the superbowl? I know that Coco and rolled back to our apartment (up in Canada) and were moaning that we needed “real food!” as opposed to snack overload and too much sugar. So tonight, we have a few things to combat: the …
Quarantine has opened my eyes to many things in my life that I will want to adjust when all of this has passed. One of them is the amount of food waste that happens in my home. I have a million excuses for why this happens, but I realize now that it must change. So, …

I just all of the sudden realized that starting Friday we are in the Holiday weekend, and it would seem wrong not to share this Red White and Blue Potato Salad. Just wrong. Since I have a really special BBQ item that you can’t live without lined up for Friday, today is now potato salad …
This creamy and rich mushroom risotto is the perfect Holiday side dish or delicious and hearty meatless entree!
I’m home and writing this from my temporary bed on the couch in the basement. We are doing some painting that is taking longer than expected (doesn’t it always!?) and the fumes are so bad upstairs that my whole family is having a nice little slumber party down here. This should be interesting. Pia talks …
So today is kind of a crazy and exciting day. March 7th (Today!!) marks a nine year anniversary for me. It has been 9 years since I wrote my first blog post (WHOAH!!!!) What a wild ride it has been! I am so happy that I love it even more all these years later and …

So as we start a new week, up here in Canada where Coco is working, things look pretty different than a week ago. Not to be a doomsdayer- but this is what our life (at least when in Seattle), looks like right now- and it’s really, really weird you guys. Not panicking, not being an …
I hope that your weekend was nice? Coco had her first slumber party ever on Friday and it went really well. As in, they actually slept- so that was good. And then my parents took the kids on Saturday so that Pete and I could work all day Saturday and Sunday (which was not so …
Ok. With just about a week to go before the Superbowl, I have a couple recipes that you have got to add to your Sunday snack roster! And the reaction people had to the sneak preview of this recipe on IG stories was enough for me to know that this had to be first up. …
TGIF in a major, major way. Anyone else? I am in a bad place mentally where I just want to be on vacation. Like every single day. You know when you are just over everything? All I want to do is putter in the garden and nap- what a blast, huh?! Thank goodness it is …
