For five years now, New York City's Times Square Alliance has made a call to architects and designers for submissions of a Times Square romantic public art
I'll be giving away this little scarflet on my blog for the Sew, Mama, Sew May Giveaway Day (5/27) in honor of the Colorado Springs Heartwalk I'll be participating in on June 20.

A sweet yet meaningful new art installation was recently unveiled in Times Square. Brooklyn-based design firm Situ Studio created Heartwalk, a
Brooklyn-based design firm Situ Studio's proposal was selected as the winner of the 2013 Times Square Alliance Valentine Heart Design competition. "Heartwalk" was inspired by "the collective experience of Hurricane Sandy and the love that binds people together during trying times." The sculpture is fabricated from salvaged boardwalk boards collected post Hurricane Sandy from Long Beach, New York, Sea Girt, New Jersey, and Atlantic City, New Jersey. Two ribbons of wooden planks gradually lift from the ground to form a heart-shaped enclosure. At night, red lights illuminate the interior of the installation accentuating the shape of the piece. Visitors are invited to enter the 30 foot installation to "stand in the heart of the world's greatest city." Since Heartwalk's month long debut in Times Square, the sculpture has been relocated to the Pearl Street Triangle in Brooklyn for two months. Situ Studio, the Dumbo Business Improvement District and the DOT Urban Art Program are happy to spread the 'love' to another borough, beautify another part of New York City, and support those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Heartwalk is a new heart-shaped public art installation made of boardwalk planks salvaged after Hurricane Sandy. The LED-laced pavilion installed in Duffy Square (in the heart of Times Square) was conceptualized and designed by Brooklyn-based design firm Situ Studio, winner of this year’s annual Times Square Valentine Heart Design. The artwork was inspired by the “collective experience of Hurricane Sandy and the love that binds people together during trying times.” Each year, the Times Square Alliance invites architecture and design firms to submit proposals for a romantic public art installation celebrating Valentine’s Day in Times Square. Heartwalk was unveiled yesterday, and will remain on view until March 10, 2013.
