What are the qualities of a good coach? and How can you become one too? 1. They love people and have a heartfelt desire to help them. 2. They have incredible listening skills. Awesome life coaches listen to the words you are saying, the tone of your voice, the energy you exude and pauses during the conversation. They listen deeply to the things both voiced and those unsaid. 3. They ask questions that make you pause and think. Good coaches maintain a curious mindset. This endless curiosity leads to powerful questions that prompt you to reframe your perspective. If you've always been curious about what it takes to become a successful life coach I've got something for you!!! I created this free report: The Ultimate Guide to Becoming A Professional Coach. >>> Download Your Copy Here <<< 4. They help you feel comfortable. When you’re with a great coach you can be comfortable and relax. Great coaches have a talent of putting you at ease, building trust and honouring the confidentiality of the conversation. 5. A good coach encourages you to take action. Changing your thoughts is the first step to improving your life. With coaching, you will learn how to take inspired action to take you closer to your goals. 6. They celebrate your success. Great coaches are cheerleaders who stand in your corner. Too often we don’t celebrate our successes for more than a couple of minutes. As soon as we achieve one goal, we rush forward to the next thing. A good coach will help you learn how to celebrate your wins and enjoy your life. 7. Is comfortable with all your emotions. Living an authentic fulfilling life does not mean you are never disappointed, heartbroken or filled with fear. A good coach gives you a place to safely process your emotions, so you can get free and choose to move forward. 8. Don’t buy your B&*&(*t story and excuses. They will help you to remember what is really important and support you to take steps to live more authentically. When you get nervous and start to make excuses, they will kindly hold your vision for you and help you to see that your bigger more fulfilling life is waiting to welcome you at any time. 9. Hold you accountable. A good coach holds you accountable to your commitments. Accountability for your actions is one of the ways you will reach your goals more quickly. 10. Remind you of how far you’ve come. When you hit a roadblock, a good coach reminds you of all the progress you’ve made already. They help you to remember, this is only a small bump in the bigger picture of your life. They show you where you’re too hard on yourself 11. They are comfortable with silence. They are adept at holding space and quiet for you while you process your thoughts, emotions and motivations. By giving you space they help you understand yourself better and allow you to decide on the best actions for yourself 12. They don’t tell you what to do. Coaching is not about giving advice. Great coaches facilitate the session, so you can decide what’s best for yourself. 13. They don’t judge you. They respect that your life and your choices are yours to make. They encourage you to live the most fulfilling life, on your own terms. 14. They don’t talk endlessly about themselves and their experience. Coaching is about you, your choices, your growth. A great coach knows how to manage themselves out of the coaching conversation. It's not that they never share anything about themselves, it's more they know when to speak and when to listen. 15. They don’t focus on mistakes. Instead, they help you use your mistakes as a chance to learn and grow 16. They help you get motivated, inspired and in touch with the things that make you excited! Now over to you. What do you think are the most important qualities of a great coach? Which of these skills will you choose to improve on your path to becoming a great coach? April is National Poetry Month and April 27th is Poem in Your Pocket Day. There are so many fun things to do this month and so little time! Here is an idea to get kids reading and sharing poetry: Create a Poem in Your Pocket bulletin board display with this free template. (Thank you to Ashley Hughes for this super template!) It's pretty easy.....First, have students decorate a "pocket". Staple the pocket to the bulletin board. Give them a few days or longer to find a poem that they love. Bring in a copy (they could copy it by hand) and place it in their pocket. Throughout the month classmates can read each other's chosen poem. Students could also write their own poems, too! Click here to download this free template. I hope you and your students enjoy the freebie. If you are looking for more poetry resources, I created the Poetry Unit below. It includes directions for writing 8 poems plus templates, poetry task cards and a covers for poetry journals. Students can create their own poetry journals. Or create a Class Poetry Journal. After learning all 8 types of poems, have each student choose a favorite and then put a journal together for the class. Leave in the classroom library for students to read throughout the year!

Yesterday I talked about reading in the classroom.... today, will be reading at home. All that hard work we are doing in class needs to be reinforced and practiced at home. I ask my parents to read with their child for twenty minutes per day. My principal shared this visual at a staff meeting last year.... she got it from Perry Lecompton Unified School District {I am not sure if this is the original source}...... It. Is. Fabulous. Click {HERE} to go to the Perry Lecompton site. I also found that the High-Tech Teacher Blog has retyped the same visual I just shared and added a Spanish version too. Click {HERE} to download her English and Spanish PDF explaining WHY a child needs to read for twenty minutes per day. The website Colorin Colorado has some great tip sheets for parents {click here} I have found {this link} by Mrs. Samuelson very useful. She shares the "Handy Reading Strategies" and I have no idea who created this ..was it Mrs. Samuelson? It is one of those little helpers I have seen everywhere online because it is so useful. I retyped it and it is included in the freebie below. One of the first times I meet the parents in my classroom for a formal meeting is Back to School Night. It is a parent only evening where each teacher explains all the basic information about our school and what to expect over the course of the school year. This is also where I give them my PLEASE READ every single day speech. I also hand this out- Click on either image to download your own copy. Get this Freebie now! {The Handy Reading Strategies image is also available on a page with no other text} I hope you can use these, too! I'll be back soon to post about how writing fits into the Balanced Literacy equation.
Humorous cartoons pertaining to education and teaching.
Thought I would share another activity I had with my Activity Days girls last week. We were on a mission, we went undercover and performed 7 days worth of SecRet SerViCe. Before we got started we talked a bit about service and the blessings that come when we help others. I found some manila envelopes at the dollar store and personalized them with their names on them. Inside I included a pen and these "forms" that they were to fill out during the activity. I also included a list of ideas for serving to help get them going. I was also lucky to find these fun "undercover" glasses to stick inside. Just to help them really get into the part...AND they would know if anyone sneaking up on them ;) (they really did kind of work!) The girls thought it was great. Honestly, I was pretty surprised with how excited they were to get going on their challenge. A lot of them told me they were going to go home and get started right away. Just goes to show that it doesn't take much (couple of bucks at the dollar store) to get kids excited about doing things for others. It turned out to be a fun, easy way to teach the important principal of SeRviNg oTheRS...
It's très tricky.
This board game is a great way to get to know each other a little bit more and have fun at the same time.
