The artist here was Eugène Grasset (1841-1917). The poster - Librairie Romantique - was issued in 1896 at Paris for a Paris bookstore of that name. Grasset was a Swiss-born decorative artist. Between 1869 and 1870 he worked as a theatre painter and sculptor in Lausanne. In 1871 he moved to Paris and started to design furniture, wallpapers, fabrics and tapestries. In 1877, he turned to graphic design, and poster art quickly became his most notable talent. Several of his works were published in Maîtres de L’Affiche’ (Masters of the Poster) the influential publication showcasing the most important poster art of the day. French posters were growing in popularity in the United States and Grasset was contacted by several American companies, producing covers for magazines like Harper’s. This very high quality fine art reproduction is printed onto 250 gsm texture 'feltmark' paper which has a lovely texture that gives the feeling of an original artwork. As you’d expect, the paper is archival quality, as are the inks. Please note that the A3+ size I produce is significantly larger than standard A3 - at least an inch wider on every side - for really impactful wall art. If however you would prefer standard A3, message me and I can reduce the size accordingly for no extra charge.
