A start in my handspun and hand-dyed Spicery Shetland. Next up is this patchwork handspun. I'm working this top down and will do a slow merge from one colorway to the next. I'll use maybe 4 colorways before I'm done. I have them all laid out on the guest) bed and will decide which is next when the time comes. I foresee hassle in getting all the merges to match on body and arms without running short on a color on one of them.
I'm really not the most organised of people, but every so often I'll pull myself together, drag myself out from under the pile of chaos that's building up around me and sort myself out. I love hand spinning and knitting, but the problem is, I enjoy the former quite a lot more than the latter. Consequently, I have a pile of handspun yarn that I've spun purely for the pleasure and relaxation I get from spinning, with no real end purpose in sight. I came to the conclusion that I'd be much more likely to use my yarn if I knew exactly what I had in the first place. I decided to design some handspun yarn labels, so that I know how much is in each skein and what gauge of yarn it is. If I've dyed or blended it myself, I can also add which colours or dyes I used so that I can try to replicate it in future. Now for me, that's organised! This is just a small selection of my handspun yarn that I've managed to measure, weigh and label so far. At least now I can search for a pattern on Ravelry, knowing exactly the gauge and length of yarn I have in each skein. I can see several cowls, gloves and shawls-worth right there! Here's a png of my handspun yarn labels if you'd like to print your own, or I've created a PDF link here They're designed to fit on A4 card, but I'm sure with a little resizing they'll work well on US letter card too. All you need to do is cut them out and punch a hole to attach them to your skein. I've printed mine onto cream linen cardstock, but they'd also look beautiful on hammered card or watercolour paper. If you're feeling really organised, make sure that the loop you attach the label to your skein is long enough so that you can reattach the label to the outer yarn of your centre-pull ball. That way it doesn't unravel from the outside; if you have any left over, you'll be able to work out exactly how much from the weight. I hope you find my labels useful! Happy spinning! Hand-knitted woolen vest. 100% handspun merino wool by Runaway Bicycle
This handspun yarn is composed of high quality nylon top. This fiber is a dark, rich rainbow of colors! A mix of fall-inspired purples and dark red/orange tones, with pops of vibrant greens, blues, and pinks. Spun using my drop spindle, this yarn started as professionally dyed fiber by sdspin. *Extremely* soft to the touch! The composition of this fiber creates a beautifully shiny yarn that drapes well and is one of my favorite fiber types to spin. The sheen on this nearly glows under direct light! This skein is a 2-ply yarn that I measured at Aran weight or 8 wpi (wraps per inch). **Please be aware, however, that the nature of any handspun yarn comes with variations in the thickness of the yarn - this is a feature unique to handspun yarns, not a flaw! To finish my spins, I soak all of my handspun yarns in a warm water bath to set the twist. **Although it has been wet set, take extra care to prevent unraveling when using for your projects by tying off any ends left after cutting. I do my utmost to accurately portray the colors and hues of the yarn in my photos, but keep in mind resolution can vary from screen to screen I'm happy to wind your skein into a yarn cake at no extra charge! Nonetheless, it is a treasure. It can be used like Spinach, drank as a healing herbal tea, used for dyeing green and yellow, used in gardening as a pesticide and last but not least it creates fibre like Flax... FANEEL differs from our ALLO Nettle fabric, due to a straight weave rather than a herringbone like weave. Otherwise they are identical.
