I had a mini panic attack when I realized Easter is the end of March. Then I had a major panic attack when I realized I only have 3 more Sundays to practice our songs to sing in Sacrament meeting. (In Utah county, we will miss one Sunday for the Provo City Center Temple dedication). I've calmed down considerably now that I know what songs we're doing and I've got everything prepared. We are doing 'Hosanna' CS page 66 and 'Jesus Has Risen' CS page 70. Both songs are short, repetitive, and very easy. I'm going to teach the descant for 'Hosanna' to my oldest girl class. It's really easy and I've got great singer in there. They LOVE doing harmony and descants. I'll go into there class the last 5 minutes and work on it. They have very helpful teachers that can help them too. Then we are going to use the handbells on 'Jesus Has Risen'. The introduction goes really well with the bells to sound like chimes. Here's the chart I made: It does go higher than the normal set of 8 handbells to a high D and there is an A# (Bb). I also made a flip chart to teach everyone the words. I LOVE to share!!! Click HERE to download the words for the chart. Click HERE to download the bell symbols. Click HERE to download the flip chart.

There are two volumes of our songbook. We present the easiest songs in the first volume and the slightly more advanced songs in the second. You, your kids, or your students will have the opportunity to jump right into the music immediately. Music bells create an amazing sound and there is no need to worry about being in tune or finger position. It's a great instrument for beginners of any age. The unique advantage of bell sets is the fact that each note is created by an individual bell, so the notes that are not used in a particular song can be removed and the student has a greater chance for success. A handbell orchestra acts as one instrument, with each musician responsible for their particular notes, sounding their assigned bells whenever those notes appear in the music. Give each participant one or two bells and ask them to join in a simple melody. Independently, whether the player has musical knowledge or not, the band will sound harmoniously with just a little bit of training. Most solfeggio teachers advise that it's better to begin not with a piano, but with a simpler and more accessible instrument. However, like other "serious" musical instruments, bells can help in 1) teaching note duration, 2) understanding different pitches, 3) recognizing different musical scales, and 4) the acquisition of a sense of rhythm and melody. If you are a beginner, playing by note can be difficult. It is easier to follow color-coded circles with note letters. Just by following the color circles, you will sound like an experienced musician. All songs were written with circles in the musical staff, and there are no stems or flags - only notes on the line - to keep it simple. This book was written with beginners in mind. Important! Our color chromatic scale corresponds to the chakra system. Each chakra is said to vibrate at a different frequency and is associated with a particular color and particular music note. The color of the bells or resonator blocks must be the same as the color of the bells below. Welcome to Handbell Heaven! Feel free to look around for different music. There are two types- HL and KP. "HL" stands for bells that have been sold at Hobby Lobby or Michaels. They have a green bell for "G." "KP" stands for KidsPlay bells. These usually have the name on the box. There is also a new set out there that has a white bell for the high C. You will need to use the KP bells and change the high C that is red on the paper to white. Enjoy! Feel free to leave a comment if there is a song that you would like to request!
