The best way to save space in your vegetable garden is to go up! The use of a trellis helps to maximize your garden space. The only problem is some of the veggies that like to spread out the most can be hard to trellis because of the size of the veggies. The trellis hammock allows you to trellis things like summer and winter squash, large cucumbers, small pumpkins, and not worry about them pulling the vines down or breaking off before they are ripe. The trellis hammock provides support to those veggies, taking the weight off the vine. This size hammock will fit summer squashes and winter squashes. It may also fit some smaller gourds and pumpkins. In the pictures the same hammock is used on a small spaghetti squash, butternut squash and an apple gourd. If you need a larger size please contact me. Color choices: Green White Random - can be all one color or a mix of colors How to use: Slip hammock over the veggie from the bottom, jsut like placing it in a bag. Then tie or hang the drawstring on the trellis. Make sure to attach the drawstring high enough that it takes the weight off the vine but does not bend or break the steam. The hammocks are made with 100% USA cotton. They are made to have some give, so it will expand with your veggies. They are machine washable, so they can be used over and over again. *Wear the hammock touches act just like when the veggie is on the ground. This means in squashes there will be lighter color to the squash where ever the net is touching. This is just like the lighter spot you normally see from where it sits on the ground. Please see pictures for example.

Our grapevine trellis was looking a little sad. The tension from the wires were pulling the post over, and making the wires sag. I was thinking of putting a two by six spacer in between. However, after looking at it a the trellis a bit closer, we decided to add some stylistic flair to our trellis... Here is a quick look back at the backyard table grapes project so far... 2008 - Planting grapevines. We planted Black Monukka variety. 2009 - Grapevines began to grow up on the wires. After waiting for the other two vines to grow, we replaced them with some Jumbo table grapes that due to poor reading comprehension, were seeded table grapes. 2010 - The grapevines grew up to the wires and began to get trained down the wires. Wasn't too familiar with trimming the lower growth. There were a few clusters of grapes this year. 2011 - With trimming the lower growth, and the vines being up on the wires, this season was the first with real fruiting. We got something like 58 clusters of grapes! 2012 - The trellis was looking pretty sad. As well, I massively pruned the trunks, down from two to one on the original plantings. Also, I removed the Jumbo seeded grapes, and replaced them with Concord. I LOVE the smell of Concord grapevines. This is the new trellis. In construction in the photo above, and after being painted/stained in the photos below. If you are interested in planting vines, I recommend the book From Vines to Wines.
