Hello and welcome to the fourth day of the Papertrey Ink August Countdown and the first Design Team group post. Today's post is all about the new Halloween sets... Mr. Bones, Happy Haunting & Tremendous Treats: Halloween. I've got a lot to share with you today... 1 tag, 2 treat wrap and 4 cards. So let me get started... First up... Mr. Bones, by Heather Nichols. I've combined this set with my Spider Web Die Trio and used the small and medium sizes to impress webs into a Rustic White cardstock panel. Then stamped the panel with a Mr. Bones sentiment and attached it over two types of Orange Zest pattern paper. Die cut, stamped and attached the cute spider. Up next... the tag, using this adorable skeleton image. I forgot to include an original shot of this skeleton, but I wanted a bit of movement from his arms. Here's how: I die cut and stamped two skeletons and then trimmed the arms above and below the elbow joints. With a couple of mini brad handy for reassembly. I attached the skeleton (with the arms trimmed below the joint) directly to the tag and kept the arms (trimmed above the joint) for attaching. Placed the arms in the desired position and then, using a piercing tool, I was able to pierce a hole through all layers and held everything together with the mini brads. Finished the card off with a heat embossed sentiment. Onto the second set... Happy Haunting, by Melissa Bickford. An adorable build your own monster set. I began this card by masking and stamping a row of ghoulish ghost in a color combo of Orange Zest, Berry Sorbet & Melon Berry. Trimmed the edge and finished the card off with a sentiment. Next... the treat wrap. Thes little packages were die cut using the Lunchbox Note Die from Royal Velvet, Orange Zest and True Black cardstock. Stamped each one with the monster outline and heat embossed with clear embossing powder to create ghostly figures. The inside features a mini die cut web, using the Spider Web Die Trio, folded over a candy filled glassine bag. I fix the bag into place with a bit of score tape. The third and final set for today... Tremendous Treats: Halloween, by Nichole Heady. For this card I chose to work with the spider image, I stamped him three times onto Raspberry Fizz, Summer Sunrise and Simply Chartreuse pattern papers. Stamped the spider again, this time onto rustic white cardstock and colored (using Copic Markers) the heads to coordinate with the pattern papers. Strung twine spider webs (using the technique featured here), attached the spiders and finished the card off with a sentiment. Here's A Note: The twine used is actually cream colored crochet thread and I've had the same role for almost two years now. In case your wondering, you should be able to find your own at your local craft store. Last, but definitely not least... my favorite card of the day. Using the Take Three Die, I cut six squares and embellished each one with either an image or die cut web. Then finished the card off with brads and a sentiment. Well, there you have it. I hope you've enjoyed! Just remember that all of these sets will be available for purchase beginning August 15, at Papertrey Ink. Now, be sure to see what the rest of the Papertrey Ink design team has in store for you today... We really enjoyed looking through all the birthday celebration winners posts, thank you to everyone who joined in and some of you who shared more than one project with us - that is sooooo supportive and we so appreciate the entries you all make. Thank you also for all birthday wishes you left for us on your blog posts. So onto the three Pinworthy projects chosen by the Creative Guides and myself and you certainly made it difficult to narrow it down to just three, But after much deliberation these are the ones highlighted for this month and because you made it so difficult I made it four! Kerstin Hazel Tracey Irina Unfortunately we are unable to choose a winner for the Tag Friday post due to a lack of entries. We hope that more will join in next time. I would like to link back to our challenge post for April and ask you to share a project here focusing on "The Neutral Zone" where we are creating with the black, white, grey, beige, cream and brown colour palette. There are wonderful inspirational projects from the Creative Guides and a linky for you to add your project to. Inlinkz have changed their platform and ask you to register but they say you only have to ever do this once and in the future you will not have to repeat the process. In the challenge post you can also read about a call out for anyone interested in maybe becoming a new Creative Guide - that might be you, so please do go take a look to see how you can find out more information about the role and please email me if you are interested. Thanks for all the support we receive both in comments and entries and we look forward to another happy year of themes and wonderful creative projects. hugs Brenda and the Creative Guides. xxx Vintage picture courtesy of the Graphics Fairy

"God loved the birds and invented trees. Man loved the birds and invented cages." ~ Jacques Deval ~ This 1870's bird & cloche image turned out to look a little on the spooky side, don't you think? I didn't intend for it to turn out that way when I made it, several months ago. Thought some of you might find a use for it this time of year... Here are the free graphics sources used in my artwork: *The Graphics Fairy* Breathtakingly beautiful bird in cloche *Lilac & Lavender* 1903 ephemera I will be sharing the image on the other side of the 1903 ephemera soon... hope you'll stop back again! Whew! We've wrapped up Halloween and are moving headfirst into Thanksgiving and Christmas. It doesn't get much better than that. With so many big holidays on the horizon, I didn't want to forget about how often I need little everyday "Just a Note" cards and tags. They are perfect for any occasion, which is this week's Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge theme. We're also highlighting products from Visible Image. To get some texture into the background, I started by using white paint through Visible Image's Mad Here stencil. Then I sprinkled on some Infusions color stain powder and spritzed it with water. I added some paint and here's how it looked when I peeled off the stencil: Once this dried, I cut two tags out of the paper. Too busy of a background for anything to be put on top of it, so I toned it down with white paint through a polka dot stencil. I drizzled on a few drops of Dylusions spray and spritzed it with water and let the colored liquid run down the tags. When the tags dried, I stamped on this gorgeous flower image from Visible Image's Total Chaos stamp set. Where the ink was lighter, I outlined the lines with a black Sharpie. I painted the inside of the flower petals with white paint, then accented that white paint with some brighter paint colors. I also added in a piece of text paper. To make text paper, I stamped a quote image (from Simon Says Stamps' Inside Friendship Messages set) over and over on some paper, then ripped it into strips. I glued a text strip to the base of the tags and added the "Just a Note" sentiment from Simon Says Stamps' Printmaker stamp set. These tags were done and ready for any normal everyday occasion! With it being Halloween, I thought it would be especially fun to create a few altered dolls with a more "Gothic" look to them. I fondly call them "Vampire Brides"; since they have that pale "tied" to a Vampire look. I've also included some additional "black" doll part accessories that work well with the "Goth Girl" look. I hope you Enjoy them! An assembled "Vampire Bride #1" using Multi-Jointed limbs sheet Above is a doll I put together using an altered Vampire Bride doll sheet and a multi-jointed parts sheet so she can be posed in a variety of ways. Here are two multi-jointed parts sheets I created. The first one on the left has a regular skin tone look that will work with most of the dolls I've already posted and the sheet on the right is for the Goth dolls in this Halloween post. I found 3 of the previously posted L&B Dolls had a look that translated well to the Goth-Vampire world and here they are. EKD - Vampire Bride #1 This first Vampire Bride is based on the original doll seen - HERE Vampire Bride #2 This Vampire Bride is based on an original L&B paper doll seen - HERE Vampire Bride #3 The last and final Vampire Bride is based on the doll from yesterday's post - HERE These brides are all in white but I know how important black accessories are in the Goth world so I've created some altered accessories for you to mix in with all the L&B dolls I've posted about. An Assortment of Black Doll Torsos I had a bit of fun creating a fishnet look on some of the stockings shown below and created matching torsos to go with them for some added dress-up fun. The limbs below should work with most of the L&B paper dolls I've already posted. The flesh part of the upper arms will not work with the "Gothic" dolls shown above. Black Stockings and Opera Gloves Gold Fishnet Stockings Silver Fishnet Stockings Black Fishnet Stockings Black Limbs with Straighter legs Here is a sheet where I straightened out the legs a bit and gave and extra pair of arms for variety. ******* Printing and Assembly of a Jointed Paper Doll * Start by downloading the largest available size of the dolls you want to craft with. Downloading Hint: Click on the image you want before saving the image. That way you get the larger downloadable size and not the smaller thumbnail size. * Print the doll on the best quality paper you have access to, with the correct printer settings for type of paper, weight and image quality adjusted to fine or something similar that will give you a high quality print or take to a print center to have them run you a few quality prints. (Setting your printer to the correct settings can make a big difference in how she looks) Most of the L&B doll parts should work well together at the current printed size; however depending on the parts or portions of parts you want to use some minor adjusting on your part may be necessary. My printed sheet - ready to mount and cut I printed mine out on heavy glossy brochure paper using an OKI laser printer. When I select Print I get a Print pop-up box with options: I went to "Properties" and clicked the "Setup Tab" then went to "Weight" and choose the Ultra Heavy 35-54 lb setting since I use a 44lb brochure paper. Next I click the "Job Options" Tab and select Fine and then I can print it. (depending on the printer you have your setting placement and options may be different). I get lovely printed images that are ready to back, cut, assemble and decorate. Add Adhesive to the back of the sheets so they can be bonded to a sheet of heavy cardstock before cutting Personally I find running my parts through a xyron adhesive machine to be the quickest way to get full coverage adhesive on the back of the sheets so they can then be bonded to a sheet of heavy weight cardstock. Spray adhesive can also be used or any other method you prefer to use. Just remember that if you are going to assemble your dolls with brads or eyelets they need the extra support from cardstock or light weight cardboard. This will give the doll greater stability and longevity after assembling; since the paper alone just can't handle the stress of moving joints and metal fasteners. Some of the supplies used to assemble my paper doll I cut all the parts out using a sharp pair of detail cutting scissors that had a fine tip on them. I also had ready some products to tough-up my doll parts as well as some tiny brads and a tiny 1/16th inch hole punch to use with them. View of doll head after she is cut out - showing some white edges that need touching up Even cutting close to the edge with sharp scissors you can still get raw looking white edges especially around dark areas of your image. It is also easy to accidentally gouge or scrape part of the printed ink layer away as the edge of your scissors works around corners and sharp turns. I find the best way to fix this when using glossy paper is by sponging on some ink and using sharpie pens for detail touch ups. The same doll head after touch up with ink - on glossy paper I sponged on the ink all around the perimeter of the image, on the thin side of the paper and on the top part of the paper very close to the edge in the dark areas like the hair where lots of white was showing. To hide additional marks that the sponge could not get, I used Sharpie markers in matching colors. Browns for the hair and a pale skin tone for the body and bodice. I did the same process for the other limbs so they did not have "raw" looking edges either. Assembled doll Once I finished touching up all the raw edges, I punched my holes, added my brads and posed my lady. She is now ready to be styled any way you want. I've created a fun outfit for her based on some vintage Victorian clothing; so check in tomorrow to see her Gothic Costume. Till Next Time... This post is in memory of my beloved cat Sherlock who had to be put to sleep today. I'll miss you my sweet baby boy!
Buongiorno lettori e buon Halloween! 4. Fantasmi: quale personaggio vorresti che ti venisse a far visita come fantasma? Ovviamente Albus Dumbledore Silente. Divertitevi, qualunque cosa facciate stasera! Bacini, Cris
