Hello Everyone!! Subitizing has become a big component of our math curriculum over the last few years. Subitizing is "instantly seeing how many." This coming week, we will work hard on seeing groups of objects as a quantity, a unit, part of unit, or pattern. Exploring subitizing cards with kids will help them internalize quantity without having to count. Giving them the confidence to "just know" without counting gives them a step up to fluency in math. I created a little mini unit to help me help my kids. This unit includes 21 pages of subitizing cards to print, cut apart and either use as a whole group mini lesson game or to put in your math tubs so kids can practice their "instant seeing." There are dominoes, dice, ten frames, fingers, tally count, subitizing circles, and numbers. You will also find a subitizing miniposter to post. Here are a couple of pics. For your free mini unit on Subitizing, Click HERE!! :) Hope this helps you!! Stay tuned for more subitizing fun!! Have a great day!! Joyfully! Nancy

I'm trying to round out The Babe's learning experiences across all types of subjects. As much as my musician friend Zoe would hate to hear this, I've been a little lax in the music area.

All kids are active but do you ever find yourself completely exhausted by 3:00 pm while your kids are climbing all over the house? Right now we are studying cardinal directions, so I decided to have a little compass fun!! This is my first ever 'original' craftivity and the kids are loving it. We made it and then used the iPad and Apple TV to download a compass app. We practiced which direction we would need to go to find the cafeteria, office, and library. It didn't take us long to make them either...and the best part...kids were teaching other kids!!
Area and perimeter are two of my favorite math concepts to teach. It's easy to have fun learning area and perimeter.
È scritto in inglese, utilizzando termini americani all’uncinetto.
