Gram Stain Quality Control Once in a while you'll run across those crazy lab mates who love doing QC. Love it or not, it must be done. Ugh. Your regular QC may require the gram stain reagents, in which you stain a known gram positive and gram negative organism to be sure everything is working in top shape. Sodium Bicarbonate – Quality Food Grade (NaHCO3, other names E500 or baking soda) Amount: 1800 gram (3.97 lbs). For preparation of your own Spirulina medium or for other food use. Produced in Sweden. Composition: Fine white powder. Information Use this quality food grade Sodium Bicarbonate in normal baking, food making or as a component in your own Spirulina medium. In most standard Spirulina growth mediums in between 5 to 20 gram per liter of Sodium Bicarbonate is used. The scientific standard medium ”Zarrouk’s medium” uses 16. 8 gram per liter. With using the highest concentration these 500 grams will be enough for 90 L Spirulina medium. During growth the Sodium Bicarbonate contributes most of the carbon, beyond what comes from the CO2 in the air, used by the Spirulina. More Sodium Bicarbonate can therefore be added to the culture in intervals to give more carbon and enable more growth. However, more Sodium will at one point slow down growth and at around 60 gram Sodium per liter a normal culture stops growing. There is 27.4 % Sodium in Sodium Bicarbonate. At these concentrations of Sodium Bicarbonate an pH of around 8.6 to 8.8 depending on water source is reached. As the Spirulina grow and the culture become denser the pH will rise and finally end up at around pH 11 – 12. At this point the culture will stop growing. Spirulina grows fastest at an pH in between 9.5 and 10.5 at an temperature of 35 to 38°C. Product content Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3 a.k.a. as E500 or baking soda). The product bag is made out of food grade materials and is heat sealed. Delivery time Delivery to EU is done within 5-10 days and to the rest of the world within 10-15 days. About the seller HealthAlgae Sweden AB, aka HealthAlgae, is a Swedish company producing healthy, clean and secure algae for human and animal consumption. Thank you and great Spirulina cultivation or food preparation!
