Because of a slight accident, where the boxes of both the 'Dipper' and the 'Birdhouse' gourd seeds were mixed together, we will be selling these as combined seeds now. I actually think that you will like them both. I do. They are actually the same color and texture, once dried - it is just that the Dipper has a longer neck, which is very pretty too. I have loved these since I was a very little girl. We had relatives in the Ozarks, on a little farm, and these birdhouse gourds were hung everywhere, with birds flitting in and out feeding their young. How charming. When the gourd is completely dry, use sandpaper to clean its outside surface. Treat the gourd with a 10% solution of bleach and water so as to protect the gourd from rot and fungal molds. Wear rubber gloves and eye protection and soak the gourd in the solution for about 15 minutes or so. Place on a clean surface and allow to dry. For an entrance, use an expansion bit or hole saw, and cut a hole just at the center of the gourd. Clean out the inside of the gourd with a serrated knife to break up the pith and seeds. Drill two 1/4 inch-diameter holes at the stem end for the hanger, which may be a piece of rigid wire (such as a coat hanger) or a strip of rawhide, don't put in the tree without padding under the wire so as not to scar the tree. Then drill four or five holes in the bottom for drainage, with the 3/8” drill bit, and 6 or 8 around the sides for ventilation. A great basket in excellent condition made by Sherwin Porter Boyer (1907-1964). Made with oak staves and carved oak handle that is attached with brass ears. The basket bears Boyers stamp on the bottom with "Nantucket, Mass" written in pencil. There is also remnants of a paper label in the inside base. Sherwin Boyer was one of the first generation of Nantucket basket makers in the “purse” period, starting in the late 1940s and working up until his death in 1964. A contemporary to Jose Reyes, Boyer is regarded as one of the best basket makers of the period. Measures: 5”.

This is a fantastic Collection of Vintage Gourd and "Snuff Box" "Necklaces" of sorts. This is a mix of Tribal Art Jewelry. There are several Gourds which are like pendants. The long round one is a Box of sorts, with a lid and hollowed interior. The Black one is horn on a metal chain, it does Not open. This collection is more intended for display then wear. I am not sure how old the thread holding the beads is, therefore I would Not recommend wearing them, though the Horn one seems to be wearable. Each is in overall excellent vintage condition, with Definite signs of age and wear. May be some missing beads, though nothing distracting. Please Zoom the photos to appreciate all the details, as well as to best understand overall condition. Each measures 5" long on the tube, Largest Gourd is 4" long, Horn is 4" long, Little "Ball" is 1.5" tall. Each with a 12" to 14" drop on "necklace" when hung from a pin or nail.
