This blog embraces neo-medievalism and the Gothic revival, and seeks to apply medieval concepts and ideals to modern issues.
Arabesque Architecture Oh my. What beautiful Cathedrals! This mind-boggling original antique print of gorgeous Arabesque architecture primarily in Egypt and Spain is one of the most beautifully detailed engravings you'll ever see! Such beautiful details. This gorgeous, sharp as a tack German engraving was printed in the early 20th century; this delightful study in building and design is simply amazing. Printing of this quality and detail is a long lost art-form I'm afraid. Engraving is slow and labor extensive process; one far too costly to pay artisans to do in these times. Zoom in for a closer look. '1906 Arabesque Architecture' is in glorious condition captured in classic basic black (of course.) This fabulous German illustration is perfect; smooth and flat with square edges and corners and almost no tanning at all. Your 1906 antique steel engraved illustration is blank on the reverse, measures 12.25" x 9.5" overall. Its folded neatly down the center as issued 130 years ago. Matted, framed and displayed as a gallery grouping, these lovely old architectural studies are simply spectacular. (Please note that the framed examples in the last photos are just to show how this might look when it's framed. Your print will come to you unmatted andunframed.) Surrender Dorothy offers a non-stop jaw-dropping cornucopia of frame-worthy antique and vintage prints, drawings, sketches, plans, lithos, engravings, posters, maps, charts and illustrations of all kinds to adorn every room in your happy home. No matter where you live and how much of the world you have already seen, there’s always so much more out there to explore; it can take ages to properly acquaint yourself with one particular city, not to mention an entire country or a continent.
The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao is an interesting museum where you can see outstanding examples of modern art like the other museums of the Guggenheim Foundation. But there is something else that makes it unique among other Guggenheim museums around the world. It is an exceptional example that proves what a deconstructivist approach to architecture can do when advanced technologies are combined. Moreover, it is also the heart of Bilbao. Before the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao was a somewhat discredited port city that longed for its old popular days. But before getting into these details, it is necessary to spend some time talking about deconstructivism and appreciating Frank Gehry's architectural vision.
