We are great fans of the Lightfoot recumbent bikes and trikes. Sadly, this brand is no longer available. We decided to keep some of the Lightfoot reviews around, though, to remember these awesome pieces of engineering, and we created this site to review other top brands that are still on the market. To see the recumbents that we are currently excited about, visit our homepage. The Lightfoot pedal-power golf cart A new way to play golf, stay fit and have fun. The Lightfoot pedal power golf cart is course-proven, turf-friendly, capable and fun. The Lightfoot pedal-power golf cart is extremely comfortable and practical. It is very efficient, and can move at a good speed with moderate effort; two strong riders using a minimum of electric assist can keep up with gas and electric golf carts through an entire round. It has low gears for climbing and high gears for the level. It has room for two bags, drinks and other equipment needed for a relaxed yet invigorating game of golf. It is quickly adjustable for proper ergonomic fit, and accommodates riders from 5′ to 6’5″. The Lightfoot pedal power golf cart. We have put the Golf through a year’s worth of golf games and tournaments and know it to be a very functional vehicle and a absolute blast to ride. If you want to be a more athletic golfer, with a stronger core, firmer stance, and steadier hands, using a Lightfoot pedal-power golf cycle regularly in your game may help you realize both strength and health benefits. Like its immediate ancestor, the Lightfoot Microcar, this pedaled golf buggy is a very efficient performer, and a capable climber under muscle power alone. It can accept optional electric assist, if desired. On pedal-power alone, most people will propel it at 8 to 14 mph on level pavement. With electric assist, it will top out at 20 mph. We recommend electric assist if you will be riding on turf (with its higher rolling resistance) and wishing to keep up with compatriots in gas or electric powered golf carts. The Golf is very turf friendly, safe, very comfortable and fun. The MG has optional oversized high-flotation turf-friendly tires, which will put less pressure per-square-inch on turf than does a conventional electric cart. If you do not intend to use it on turf, our standard medium-width tires with a higher rolling-efficiency will be suitable for street and trail operation. The rider’s body position is relaxed and non-extreme; virtually all riders will find that this is a very comfortable position. The seat is highly adjustable, allowing easy movement forward and back, change in the degree of tilt, and adjustment of the seat-back’s curvature; a minute taken for adjustment can insure that you have proper leg extension and easy arm reach for optimal efficiency and complete comfort for the duration of your ride. The Golf can be used or without its canopy. The standard transmission uses an 8-speed mountain bike-style cassette and derailleur. Shifting these “manual” gears requires that you be pedaling and the vehicle be moving. For hilly terrain, the optional internal gear transmission can add significant ease of use. The internally-geared hubs create a “semi-automatic” transmission. If you brake to a sudden stop, you can shift down from high gear to low gear without pedaling or moving, a useful feature on uphill slopes. The internally-geared hubs add to the price. He's got a smile on his face, no matter the score. NOTE: We also can convert the Roadrunner tricycle and ATC fourwheeler to serve as single-seat golf cycles. OPTIONS Gimbaled drink holders Rear view mirror Fenders Custom Color Internally-geared hubs Electric Assist The Electric Rider 900-watt 36-volt hub motor system comes with a 24-amphour lead-acid battery pack. It has plenty of torque for climbing, and can maintain a cruising speed of 15-20mph. This solid, dependable system is directly available from www.electricrider.com at 866-807-4337; ask for the ‘Lightfoot Golf’ system. You can have it drop shipped to us and we will install it (there is an installation charge) on your vehicle while it is being assembled, or the kit can be added to your cycle at any point in the future. It replaces the right rear wheel. Other choices in lighter or longer-distance electric assist systems are described on our Electric Assist page. The Lightfoot Golf Most of our cycles are sold direct from our factory. Because almost all of our customers historically have purchased their Lightfoot cycle without having had an opportunity to test ride it in advance, we offer a Satisfaction Guarantee to those who buy direct from our factory, which provides a one month trial period for you to test the cycle. Keep the box it was shipped in until you are sure you and the cycle will be getting along well together. The guarantee reduces the risk for you to the cost of shipping. Shipping is not cheap, so it makes sense for all concerned to make as informed a decision as possible. To achieve this, we want to talk with you in depth, in order to answer any questions you may have, and to accurately understand your intended use, your preferences and your particular needs. Dealers: We now have a few select dealers. If there is a dealer in your region, you may be able to try out the model in which you are interested or a similar model. Because the cycle is available for inspection and test-riding prior to purchase, dealers do not offer our factory-direct one month satisfaction guarantee. Pricing will be approximately the same whether from a dealer or purchased factory-direct. a little Lightfoot goes a long way
I recently read an article in the New York Times about the rise in popularity of "beach cars" (tiny cars that you drive small distances like to the beach or town that are mostly "open air cars"). I grew up going to Boca Grande, Florida for Christmas and Spring Break and the island is dominated by golf carts and beach cars. We had a fire engine red golf cart that I loved cruising around in. The island has designated golf cart/bike paths all over the island so you never had to worry about being on the street with cars. The NYT article described people paying top dollar for rare beach cars that come complete with wicker seats and a hefty price tag. I love the look of them! Maybe I'm biased from my Boca Grande days but the tinier and more colorful the car (especially in pinks and corals!) the cuter, in my opinion! What do you guys think? I'd get some pretty odd stares if I tried to cruise around in one in NYC. Images via the New York Times, blog.wellappointedhouse.com, Pinterest, smartcarofamerica.com

Today, Google is the company behind your search engine, email, maybe even your wearable of choice, but tomorrow it could be making the car you drive. Or more like not drive, as it imagines you behind the wheel of a future fleet of 95.4 million self-driving cars — expected to make up about 75% of car sales by 2035. That’s only 20 years away, so not that long considering things like the World Wide Web and Joe Jonas are already 25 (don’t try to do the math, it will hurt your brain). Plus, Google’s self-driving car has been on the road for years and now new driverless vehicles are hitting the road overseas. French company Indut’s autonomous electric automobile, the Navia, is currently scooting around seven locations at Oxford University and in city centers in Singapore and across Europe. And they might be looking for a home over here soon too!
